功能对等理论是尤金·奈达翻译理论的核心,上个世纪中期在翻译界产生了极大的影响,也是早先传到中国的翻译理论之一。赏析珍妮·凯利和茅国权对钱钟书《围城》的英文译本,分析功能对等理论在该作品汉英比喻翻译中的体现,进而发现运用功能对等理论指导比喻翻译能有效地弥补文化差异,使译文更符合原文的意思。

Impact of Functional Equivalence Theory in the Translation of Metaphors——Take Fortress Besieged as an Example

Functional Equivalence Theory,important part of Eugene Nida＇s theories and one of the first translation theories introduced in China,had great impact on translation in the 1960 s and 1970 s.Metaphor,a kind of rhetoric figure,is widely used in literary works.This paper appreciates Qian Zhongshu＇s,translated by Jeanne Kelly and Nathan K.Mao,analyses the impact of Functional Equivalence Theory in the work,and has found that the application of Functional Equivalence Theory can effectively make up for cultural differences and express original meaning.
