| Abstract: | A.D.Hope is one of the very few poets who made significant achievements in English satirical poetry in the 20th century.The paper attempts to explore the reasons why he is committed to satirical poetry and the thematic concerns and artistic features of his satirical poems.Thematically speaking,Hope’s satirical poetry falls roughly into two types: one is concerned with the contemporary affairs,touching upon almost every aspect of human life,and the other with the art of poetry itself.Although there are flaws with his satirical poems,on the whole,they exhibit the peculiar poetic strengths of this old genre,namely,its flexibility and inclusiveness. |
