On the Role of Social Context in Business English Translation

With the entry into WTO,business English is becoming more and more important.Therefore it is necessary to grasp its characteristics and translating principles.This paper analyzes its characteristics and translating principles,and expounds the problems existing in business English translation concerning the function of social context.Besides the basic necessary skills in translating business English,one should try to know more about the social context in translation.If one wants to express exactly the original social context of business English,he should focus on the two functions of social context in communication: explaining function and selecting function.This paper illustrates how to deal with the two items of social context in translating business English.
