There is always a dispute on whether the soldiers' uniforms in the Ch'in and Han Dynasties were provided by the government or by the soldiers themselves. Some scholars hold the view that the uniforms were provided by the government, while others said the soldiers themselves prepared them. Both of them have their own reasons. But if we make a comparative analysis on them, together with conscientious study of relative historical data, it isn't difficult for us to find out that there were indeed some privately-prepared uniforms, but it was not a prevalent thing. On the contrary, a great deal of historical materials bears out that the soldiers' uniforms in the Ch'in and Han Dynasties were mainly provided by the government.
