| Abstract: | Reading is a sector of great importance in English teaching and learning. Reading comprehension is not just the simple process of interpreting the meaning of words. The complex reading processes involve a number of interacting factors: reading subjectreading model text and the reader's background knowledge. It is concluded that much of the meaning understood from the text is not actually in the text, but in the background knowledge of the reading subject. The richer the background knowledge is, the higher the reading efficiency will be. |
