中国科技哲学“巨人”何以变成中国建筑哲学及建筑学“常人”?(上)——著名中国科技史专家李约瑟先生对中国科技哲学的卓见及其评判风水陷入偏颇的教训

摘    要:李约瑟先生以“广义科学观”思考中国科技及其思想史,包括揭示中国古代“五行学说”的科学内涵,通俗说明“阴阳学说”辩证法意蕴,盛赞中国“关联式思维方式”超越西方“分析式思维方式”的睿智,并一反“五四”后对董仲舒、朱熹哲学否定过多的潮流而视之为中国科技哲学史支撑点,力求让世界了解中国人在科技史上的巨大贡献,表现了中国科技哲学“巨人”的风采。但李著《中国科学技术史》土木工程卷背离上述思路,依西方和中国“五四”后“海归学者”关于风水不含科学的旧见,又鉴于对中国文明的深情,仅视风水为中国古代“美学”,从中国科技哲学“巨人”变成中国建筑哲学及建筑学“常人”。其症结是李约瑟先生虽在理论上坚持“广义科学观”,但由于受西方文化熏陶,仍往往具有“西方科学为最高范式”的“情结”,无法真正把作为中国文明成果的风水中包含的科学因素发掘出来。挖掘风水中的科学因素还得靠中国人自己。

Abstract:Mr.Joseph Needham researches into the Chinese science and technology and its history of thought by means of the “general view of science” ,who reveals the scientific connotation of ancient Chinese“five elements theory” ,explains the dialectical implications of “Yin-yang theory”in popular language ,sings high praise for the wisdom of Chinese “relational way of thinking”over the western “analytical thinking style” ,and views it as the anchor of the philosophy history of Chinese science and technology ,which is against the trend that a negative attitude was taken to-wards the pholosophy of Dong Zhongshu and Zhu Xi after the “May Fourth Movement” ,and strives to let the world know China’s great contributions in the history of science and technology , all of which show s the style of the “giant” in the Chinese philosophy of science and technology . But the civil engineering volume of his works Chinese History of Science and Technology devi-ates from the above ideas .According to the old ideas of the Western and returnee scholars after the“May Fourth Movement” that Feng Shui is not scientific and in view of his affection for the Chinese civilization ,he looks on Feng Shui as ancient Chinese “aesthetics”,which leads to his change from the“giant”in Chinese philosophy of science and technology into the “ordinary per-son”in Chinese architectural philosophy and architecture .The crux of the problem is that Mr.Jo-seph Needham sticks to the“general view of science” theoretically ,but as a result of the influence of western culture ,he still has the complex that “ the western science is the highest paradigm” , which prevents him from really discovering the scientific factors in Feng Shui ,one of the achieve-ments of Chinese civilization .Therefore ,we have to depend on ourselves to discover the scientific factors in Feng Shui.
