委婉语是语言交际中的“润滑剂”;礼貌原则是语言交际中制约语言行为的礼貌规范。从语用学角度出发，探索委婉语和礼貌原则之间的关系是：在言语交际过程中，委婉语有意违反合作原则来含蓄地表达自己的真意，是出于礼貌的考虑使话语得体，使对方感到你和善不强迫他人，不使人无台阶可下。所以人们在交际中运用委婉语正是遵守了礼貌原则。

Euphemism and the Politeness Principle

In linguistic communication, euphemism is a lubricant, whereas the politeness principle is a norm of moderating linguistic behavior. This paper analyzes euphemism with the basic theory of pragmatics, showing the relationship between euphemism and the politeness principle. In order to achieve a better communicative effectiveness, euphemism is used to deliberately violate the cooperative principle due to the consideration of politeness in specific context. Euphemism is closely related to politeness, and euphemism observes the politeness principle.
