| 摘 要： | 本文从新历史主义的视角探讨了尤金．奥尼尔《奇异的插曲》中主人公尼娜一生追求精神解脱的失败历程：从背叛清教信仰到依附于物质上帝最后回到庸俗化的清教怀抱，集中体现了美国二三十年代精神文化生活中普遍存在的问题，揭示了人类心灵在现代社会的尴尬处境。

| Abstract: | This paper examines Nina' s(the heroine in Eugene O' Neill' s play Strange Interlude)unsuc-cessful journey to search spiritual peace from the perspective of new his toricism.She betrays the Puritanism at first,and then attaches to the material God but finally returns to the vulgar-ized Puritanism,which embodies the common problem existing in American spiritual life in1920' s and 1930's;which also reveals the dilemma of human soul in modern society. |
