| 摘 要： | 本文试图从社会语用角度说明具有曲折婉转、含糊其辞特点的委婉语在使用范围及功能方面具有重要的语用价值。作者首先重点讨论了语用意义,目的是引起英语研究者的注意,特别是阅读和口语方面的注意。随后,作者探讨了英语委婉语的特有的语用功能,也就是礼貌功能,而这一功能又是使用委婉语的主要原因。关于语用范畴,作者认为委婉语具有复杂性,她不仅是以友好的方式来表达不宜言表的事物,而且暗含了不同的动机。作者希望这一讨论有助于在英语委婉语与其所指物之间架起一座桥梁。

| Abstract: | From the angle of social pragmatics,this paper tries to explain the important pragmatic value of euphemism featuring mild and indirect,ambiguous in range and function.The paper firstly stresses on the pragmatic significance for stirring the attention of researchers of English,especially the attention paid to reading and colloquialism.Then,it discusses special pragmatic function of English euphemism(ie.that of manners for which a euphemism is used. |
