| Abstract: | Hedges frequently occur in language use and hedging is a phenomenon worthy of study in fuzzy linguistics. In an attempt to redefine hedges, the author proposes a classification of Chinese and English hedges from the grammatical, semantic and pragmatic perspectives and further discusses its semantic, pragmatic and stylistic function. |
