| Abstract: | The theory of conversational implicature has limitations in metaphor apprehension. From the perspective of the relevance theory of communication, interpreting a metaphor is basically a process of cognitive inference based on conceptual knowledge about the world and involves obtaining the contextual effects of the metaphor by means of seeking maximum relevance. |
