晚清时期兴起的旨在提倡西学、融合中西的"中体西用"文化观是中国文化史上处理中西文化关系的第一次尝试.虽然它因自身的局限性和内在的矛盾,无法构成一种严整的新型的文化观念体系;但在洋务运动时期,它对于冲破传统思想的禁锢,开阔人们视野,引导人们追求新知,对于传播西方近代文明,对于中国文化的近代化,起到了标新立异的积极作用.

Cultural concept of "Zhong-ti Xi-yong"in late Qing dynasty is an advocate of learning the western culture and fusing the western culture and the Chinese culture.It is the first try that handle the relation of them in the Chinese culture history.Although it is not a rigorous,integrated and new-style cultural system for its limitation and contradiction inside itself,it had played a positive and rat-fuck part in the Movement of Foreign Affairs,such as breaking through traditional ideology,widening people's horizon,leading people to seek new knowledge,spreading the western civilization in modern times and modernizing the Chinese culture.
