埃达·浦爱德（Ida Pruitt）与老舍《四世同堂》英译本The Yellow Storm

老舍小说《四世同堂》于1951年以the Yellow Storm（《黄色风暴》）为名由美国哈科特和布雷斯公司出版。翻译过程极为独特，即它并不是由译者单独在原作基础上逐句翻译完成的，而是先由小说原作者进行删节，然后再口授给看不懂而能听得懂中文的浦爱德并由浦爱德用打字机录于纸面，在小说出版之前又由出版社再次进行了删节。英译的成功不仅是老舍本人艺术实力的见证，同时也暗含了浦爱德对“母国”的深深执念和独特感受，是译介史上的一个独特个案。

Ida Pruitt and The Yellow Storm by Lao She

Four Generations under One Roof by Lao She was published in 195 lunder the name of The Yellow Storm by Harcourt, Brace ＆ Co. However, its translation was a unique case in the history of translation. First, the author made omissions and dictated the new version to Ida Pruitt who could not read Chinese, though. The latter put to words what he had heard by using a typewriter. The publishing house made omission again before getting the book published. The success of its translation can be put down to both the artistic ability of Lao She himself, but also Ida Pruitt＇s perseverance and unique understanding.
