报刊新闻英语中几个标点符号的特殊用法及其理解与翻译

在翻译的过程中人们往往更多地考虑原文与译文在词汇与意义上的对等,而忽略了标点符号在行文表意方面的重要作用。事实上,标点符号的运用不仅反映了一篇文章的文体特征,而且有时还能起到使表达更加准确生动之功效。在新闻写作中,标点符号更是有其独特的用法,尤其是逗号,冒号与破折号。本文拟以英文报刊新闻为例,谈一谈这些标点符号在报刊新闻英语中的正确理解与翻译。

Understanding and Translation of Some Punctuations in Newspaper English

The equivalence in lexicon and meaning between the source and target languages is usually the primary concern of a translator while not much attention is paid to the proper handling of punctuations, though, as a matter of fact, they play an indispensable role in making the style and making our expressions more accurate and effective. Therefore, this essay proposes to dig into the issue of the accurate comprehension and adequate translation of punctuations-comma, colon and dash in particular-in English newspapers because there are some different applications of them in newspaper English writing.
