A Review of James.S. Coleman's Rational Choice Theory

Rational choice theory is one of the most impo rt ant sociological theories.Coleman was widely regarded as a powerful figure of th e theory.This article presents the basis and main viewpoints of James.S.Coleman 's rational choice theory.Based on the assumption of "rational man" and metho dological individualism,Coleman regarded that individual behavior was always tak ing purposive action among different actions or something according to the princ iple of maximization of utility.He analysed deeply social standard and corporate action.Attempting to combine micro and macro approaches,he put forward the new orientation of studying and developing social theory.
