Restoration of Humanity in Wuthering Heights

The relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine, hero and heroine in Wuthering Heights , defies any definition of love in its normal sense, which goes beyond time and space from the very beginning. Heathcliff and Catherine have but one soul so that the absence of one from the other is no different from an end to his or her own existence. The harmonious coexistence between Heathcliff and Catherine is made possible only after their death (first Catherine, then Heathcliff) by Hareton and Cathy, bearers of their blood and incarnation of their youth. Here, the extinction of the body symbolizes the resurrection of the soul and the destruction of the manor signifies the restoration of humanity.
