Bakhtin's Dialogue Theory and Its Application in the Study of Chinese Language

Bakhtin's dialogue theory, taking dialogism as the nature of language use, considers that all discourses are essentially dialogic. Even in writing, which is a highly individualized monologue speech act, the writers always set up a situation in which exists a speaker and a hearer. The dialogue theory combines linguistics and sociology, especially emphasizing the importance of the interaction between the speaker and the hearer in language production and understanding. This view is of great reference value to Chinese linguistics research which always lacks pragmatic perspective.
