Studies in the Teaching of English Intonation with Systematic Exercises

For a long time, intonation is a much neglected factor in pronunciation teaching. The studies and teachings of intonation lack behind that in the study of speech sounds. It is far from optimistic. The role and the nature of intonation in actual communication, and sketches the development of classroom intonation are discussed, attempting to argue that intonation can be taught much more effectively in a communicative way. Some bad treatments are also pointed out, and proper teaching ways and skills are suggested. Intonation makes the process of communication easier, it does facilitate and accelerate the assimilation of a new tongue.
