礼貌原则的跨文化思考

礼貌虽然是人类言语交际中的普遍现象 ,但不同的文化对礼貌有不同的解释和侧重。在汉文化中体现“得体”和“谦逊”的言语行为用在英语文化中可能会产生相反的效果 ,因此 Leech的礼貌原则及次则不能有效地指导跨文化交际 ,甚至会产生悖论、矛盾。产生跨文化交际失败的原因是因为交际双方没有取得文化认同 ,因此 ,作者认为文化认同原则是跨文化交际语用原则。

Reflections on Politeness Principle

Politeness phenomenon is universal in human speech communication, but it has different explanations and emphases in different languages. Those speech acts of "tact" and "modesty" in Chinese culture, once transferred into English, may cause opposite results, so Leech's Politeness Principle and its maxims cannot guide intercultural communication effectively, and may even cause contradictions. The author thinks the reason for the failure in intercultural communication is that the participants have not identified each other's culture, hence he postulates Cultural Identification Principle as the pragmatic principle in intercultural communication.
