| 摘 要： | 以2004年布什和克里的第一场总统辩论赛文本为语料，尝试着把情态隐喻作为一种视角，分析政治辩论语篇中情态隐喻的语用功能。试图说明情态隐喻不仅是政治辩论的一种语言特色，而且对实现辩论的目的有着重要的作用。认识到这一点，可以加深英语学习者对目标语的理解和感悟，有效地改进他们对目标语的运用和提高他们的交际能力。

| Abstract: | In light of Halliday＇s point of view on the modality metaphors, this paper aims to make an a- nalysis of the functions of the modality metaphors in Bush-Kerry presidential debates in an attempt to find out how the debaters exploit the modality metaphors to achieve their communicative functions and make their arguments more convincing. It is suggested that similar analyses could benefit English learners in their improvement of English listening, speaking and writing so that they can develop their communicative competence more effectively. |
