出现在民初言情小说中的女性形象,多是一些柔弱善良、谦卑忍让的贤女良妇,她们背负着沉重的礼教重荷,与晚明戏曲小说、“五四”爱情文学中的女性相比,她们缺乏鲜明的个性意识和叛逆精神,既无勇气维护个人的权力,更无力量去和命运搏斗。这也反映了当时社会从古老的封闭的宗法制社会转向近代开放的社会,所正在经历的困惑与痛苦。

Martyrs With Perfect Moral Integrity

The women depicted in sentimental novels during the early period of the Republic of China are mostly submissive, modest, conciliatory, virtuous and kind, but the bear the heavy burden of the feudal code of ethics. Compared with the women in literary works of love in the operas and novels in the late Ming Dynasty and the period of the May 4th Movement, they lack the distinctive personal ideology and the spirit of rebel, having no courage to defend their rights, letting alone the power to fight against fate. This reflects the confusion and sufferings the society is experiencing at that time in transforming from an old closed patriarchal society to the modern open society.
