This article proposes a bivariate generalization of the noncentral negative binomial distribution which arises as a model in photon and neural counting. This bivariate generalization is derived as a mixed shifted bivariate negative binomial distribution. Various properties and parameter estimation, especially by a minimum distance method based on the probability generating function, are considered. To show the practical usefulness of the bivariate distribution proposed, an application to model low-flux astronomical images is discussed and a real data set has been analyzed.  相似文献

This article considers a unified approach based on the mixture method to construct linear bivariate models and those on the cylinder and torus involving the exponential and cardioid distributions with the truncated exponential distribution as the mixing distribution. In this paper, we propose a new bivariate distribution, namely bivariate alpha-skew-normal distribution. The proposed distribution is very flexible and capable of generalizing the univariate alpha-skew-normal distribution as its marginal component distributions; it features a probability density function with up to two modes and has the bivariate normal distribution as a special case. The joint moment generating function as well as the main moments are provided. Inference is based on a usual maximum-likelihood estimation approach. The asymptotic properties of the maximum-likelihood estimates are verified in light of a simulation study. The usefulness of the new model is illustrated in a real benchmark data.  相似文献

The use of bivariate distributions plays a fundamental role in survival and reliability studies. In this paper, we introduce a location-scale model for bivariate survival times based on the copula to model the dependence of bivariate survival data with cure fraction. We create the correlation structure between the failure times using the Clayton family of copulas, which is assumed to have any distribution. It turns out that the model becomes very flexible with respect to the choice of the marginal distributions. For the proposed model, we consider inferential procedures based on constrained parameters under maximum likelihood. We derive the appropriate matrices for assessing local influence under different perturbation schemes and present some ways to perform global influence analysis. The relevance of the approach is illustrated using a real data set and a diagnostic analysis is performed to select an appropriate model.  相似文献

This article investigates the consequences of departures from independence when the component lifetimes in a series system are exponentially distributed. Such departures are studied when the joint distribution is assumed to follow either one of the three Gumbel bivariate exponential models, the Downton bivariate exponential model, or the Oakes bivariate exponential model. Two distinct situations are considered. First, in theoretical modeling of series systems, when the distribution of the component lifetimes is assumed, one wishes to compute system reliability and mean system life. Second, errors in parametric and nonparametric estimation of component reliability and component mean life are studied based on life-test data collected on series systems when the assumption of independence is made  相似文献

For analyzing incidence data on diabetes and health problems, the bivariate geometric probability distribution is a natural choice but remained unexplored largely due to lack of models linking covariates with the probabilities of bivariate incidence of correlated outcomes. In this paper, bivariate geometric models are proposed for two correlated incidence outcomes. The extended generalized linear models are developed to take into account covariate dependence of the bivariate probabilities of correlated incidence outcomes for diabetes and heart diseases for the elderly population. The estimation and test procedures are illustrated using the Health and Retirement Study data. Two models are shown in this paper, one based on conditional-marginal approach and the other one based on the joint probability distribution with an association parameter. The joint model with association parameter appears to be a very good choice for analyzing the covariate dependence of the joint incidence of diabetes and heart diseases. Bootstrapping is performed to measure the accuracy of estimates and the results indicate very small bias.  相似文献

Recently, Lee and Cha proposed two general classes of discrete bivariate distributions. They have discussed some general properties and some specific cases of their proposed distributions. In this paper we have considered one model, namely bivariate discrete Weibull distribution, which has not been considered in the literature yet. The proposed bivariate discrete Weibull distribution is a discrete analogue of the Marshall–Olkin bivariate Weibull distribution. We study various properties of the proposed distribution and discuss its interesting physical interpretations. The proposed model has four parameters, and because of that it is a very flexible distribution. The maximum likelihood estimators of the parameters cannot be obtained in closed forms, and we have proposed a very efficient nested EM algorithm which works quite well for discrete data. We have also proposed augmented Gibbs sampling procedure to compute Bayes estimates of the unknown parameters based on a very flexible set of priors. Two data sets have been analyzed to show how the proposed model and the method work in practice. We will see that the performances are quite satisfactory. Finally, we conclude the paper.  相似文献

In this paper, a multivariate form of truncated generalized Cauchy distribution (TGCD), which is denoted by (MVTGCD), is introduced. The joint density function, conditional density function, moment generating function and mixed moments of order ${b=\sum_{i=1}^{k}b_{i}}$ are obtained. Making use of the mixed moments formula, skewness and kurtosis in case of the bivariate case are obtained. Also, all parameters of the distribution are estimated using the maximum likelihood and Bayes methods. A real data set is introduced and analyzed using three models. The first model is the bivariate Cauchy distribution, the second is the truncated bivariate Cauchy distribution and the third is the bivariate truncated generalized Cauchy distribution. A comparison is carried out between the mentioned models based on the corresponding Kolmogorov–Smirnov (K–S) test statistic to emphasize that the bivariate truncated generalized Cauchy model fits the data better than the other models.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a bivariate sign test for the one-sample bivariate location model using a bivariate ranked set sample (BVRSS). We show that the proposed test is asymptotically more efficient than its counterpart sign test based on a bivariate simple random sample (BVSRS). The asymptotic null distribution and the non centrality parameter are derived. The asymptotic distribution of the vector of sample median as an estimator of the locations of the bivariate model is introduced. Theoretical and numerical comparisons of the asymptotic efficiency of the BVRSS sign test with respect to the BVSRS sign test are also given.  相似文献

The Laplace distribution is considered as a better choice for modeling whenever data exhibit high kurtosis and heavier tails than Gaussian tails. Even though this is the case, not much work has been done on bivariate Laplace distribution. In this work, we introduce and study a new class of bivariate distributions called bivariate semi α-Laplace distribution, containing bivariate Laplace distributions. Three characterizations of bivariate semi α-Laplace distribution are obtained. Relation with bivariate semi stable distribution is established. An autoregressive model with bivariate semi α-Laplace marginal distributions is developed.  相似文献

Traditionally, analysis of Hydrology employs only one hydrological variable. Recently, Nadarajah [A bivariate distribution with gamma and beta marginals with application to drought data. J Appl Stat. 2009;36:277–301] proposed a bivariate model with gamma and beta as marginal distributions to analyse the drought duration and the proportion of drought events. However, the validity of this method hinges on fulfilment of stringent assumptions. We propose a robust likelihood approach which can be used to make inference for general bivariate continuous and proportion data. Unlike the gamma–beta (GB) model which is sensitive to model misspecification, the new method provides legitimate inference without knowing the true underlying distribution of the bivariate data. Simulations and the analysis of the drought data from the State of Nebraska, USA, are provided to make contrasts between this robust approach and the GB model.  相似文献

In many areas of medical research, especially in studies that involve paired organs, a bivariate ordered categorical response should be analyzed. Using a bivariate continuous distribution as the latent variable is an interesting strategy for analyzing these data sets. In this context, the bivariate standard normal distribution, which leads to the bivariate cumulative probit regression model, is the most common choice. In this paper, we introduce another latent variable regression model for modeling bivariate ordered categorical responses. This model may be an appropriate alternative for the bivariate cumulative probit regression model, when postulating a symmetric form for marginal or joint distribution of response data does not appear to be a valid assumption. We also develop the necessary numerical procedure to obtain the maximum likelihood estimates of the model parameters. To illustrate the proposed model, we analyze data from an epidemiologic study to identify some of the most important risk indicators of periodontal disease among students 15-19 years in Tehran, Iran.  相似文献

Because of limitations of the univariate frailty model in analysis of multivariate survival data, a bivariate frailty model is introduced for the analysis of bivariate survival data. This provides tremendous flexibility especially in allowing negative associations between subjects within the same cluster. The approach involves incorporating into the model two possibly correlated frailties for each cluster. The bivariate lognormal distribution is used as the frailty distribution. The model is then generalized to multivariate survival data with two distinguished groups and also to alternating process data. A modified EM algorithm is developed with no requirement of specification of the baseline hazards. The estimators are generalized maximum likelihood estimators with subject-specific interpretation. The model is applied to a mental health study on evaluation of health policy effects for inpatient psychiatric care.  相似文献

In this article, we develop a Bayesian approach for the estimation of two cure correlated frailty models that have been extended to the cure frailty models introduced by Yin [34]. We used the two different type of frailty with bivariate log-normal distribution instead of gamma distribution. A likelihood function was constructed based on a piecewise exponential distribution function. The model parameters were estimated by the Markov chain Monte Carlo method. The comparison of models is based on the Cox correlated frailty model with log-normal distribution. A real data set of bilateral corneal graft rejection was used to compare these models. The results of this data, based on deviance information criteria, showed the advantage of the proposed models.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a bivariate long-term distribution based on the Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern copula model. The proposed model allows for the presence of censored data and covariates. For inferential purposes, a Bayesian approach via Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) were considered. Further, some discussions on the model selection criteria are given. In order to examine outlying and influential observations, we present a Bayesian case deletion influence diagnostics based on the Kullback-Leibler divergence. The use of bivariate distributions plays a fundamental role in survival and reliability studies. In this paper, we consider a location scale model for bivariate survival times based on the proposal of a copula to model the dependence of bivariate survival data. For the proposed model, we consider inferential procedures based on maximum likelihood. Gains in efficiency from bivariate models are also examined in the censored data setting. For different parameter settings, sample sizes and censoring percentages, various simulation studies are performed and compared to the performance of the bivariate regression model for matched paired survival data. Sensitivity analysis methods such as local and total influence are presented and derived under three perturbation schemes. The martingale marginal and the deviance marginal residual measures are used to check the adequacy of the model. Furthermore, we propose a new measure which we call modified deviance component residual. The methodology in the paper is illustrated on a lifetime data set for kidney patients.  相似文献

In this paper we construct a bivariate gamma mixture distribution by allowing the scale parameters of the two marginals to have a generalized Bernoulli distribution. We study the statistical properties of this distribution and discuss the estimation of the parameters. The distribution is then fitted to two bivariate data sets. Data on the age and lactation period of cows are described well by the proposed model, but it fails to fit Johansen's bean data properly because of theoretical constraints on the correlation.  相似文献

We propose a new bivariate negative binomial model with constant correlation structure, which was derived from a contagious bivariate distribution of two independent Poisson mass functions, by mixing the proposed bivariate gamma type density with constantly correlated covariance structure (Iwasaki & Tsubaki, 2005), which satisfies the integrability condition of McCullagh & Nelder (1989, p. 334). The proposed bivariate gamma type density comes from a natural exponential family. Joe (1997) points out the necessity of a multivariate gamma distribution to derive a multivariate distribution with negative binomial margins, and the luck of a convenient form of multivariate gamma distribution to get a model with greater flexibility in a dependent structure with indices of dispersion. In this paper we first derive a new bivariate negative binomial distribution as well as the first two cumulants, and, secondly, formulate bivariate generalized linear models with a constantly correlated negative binomial covariance structure in addition to the moment estimator of the components of the matrix. We finally fit the bivariate negative binomial models to two correlated environmental data sets.  相似文献

A simple result concerning the canonical expansions of mixed bivariate distributions is considered. This result is then applied to analyze the correlation structures of the Bates-Neyman accident proneness model and its generalization, to derive probability inequalities based on the concept of positive dependence, and to construct a bivariate beta distribution with positive correlation coefficient applicable in computer simulation experiments. The mixture formulation of the conditional distribution of this class of mixed bivariate distributions is used to define and generate first-order autoregressive gamma and negative binomial sequences.  相似文献
