We will consider the following problem.Maximise Φ(p)over P={p=(p1,P2,…,pj):Pj≧0,∑pj=1}". We require to calcute an optimizing distribution. Examples arise in optimal regression design, maximum likelihood estimation and stratified sazmpling problems. A class of multiplicative algorithms, indexed by functions which depend on the derivatives of Φ(·)is considered for solving this problem.Iterations are of the form:pj (r+1)αpj (r)f(xj (r)), where xj (r)=dj (r) or Fj (r)and dj (r)=?Φ/?pj While Fj (r)=Dj (r)?∑pi (r)di (r) (a directional derivative)at p=p(r)f(·)satisfies some suitable properties and may depend on one or more free parameters. These iterations neatly submit to the constraints ofv the problem. Some results will be reported and extensions to problems dependin on two or more distributions and to problems with additional constraints will be considered.  相似文献

Consider the regression model Yi= g(xi) + ei, i = 1,…, n, where g is an unknown function defined on [0, 1], 0 = x0 < x1 < … < xn≤ 1 are chosen so that max1≤i≤n(xi-xi- 1) = 0(n-1), and where {ei} are i.i.d. with Ee1= 0 and Var e1 - s?2. In a previous paper, Cheng & Lin (1979) study three estimators of g, namely, g1n of Cheng & Lin (1979), g2n of Clark (1977), and g3n of Priestley & Chao (1972). Consistency results are established and rates of strong uniform convergence are obtained. In the current investigation the limiting distribution of &in, i = 1, 2, 3, and that of the isotonic estimator g**n are considered.  相似文献

Sequential estimation of parameters In a continuous time Markov branching process with Immigration with split rate λ1 Immigration rate λ2, offspring distribution {p1j≥O) and Immigration distribution {p2j≥l} is considered. A sequential version of the Cramér-Rao type information inequality is derived which gives a lower bound on the variances of unbiased estimators for any function of these parameters. Attaining the lower bounds depends on whether the sampling plan or stopping rule S, the estimator f, and the parametric function g = E(f) are efficient. All efficient triples (S,f,g) are characterized; It Is shown that for i = 1,2, only linear combinations of λipij j's or their ratios are efficiently estimable. Applications to a Yule process, a linear birth and death process with immigration and an M/M/∞ queue are also considered  相似文献

Suppose that data {(x l,i,n , y l,i,n ): l?=?1, …, k; i?=?1, …, n} are observed from the regression models: Y l,i,n ?=?m l (x l,i,n )?+?? l,i,n , l?=?1, …, k, where the regression functions {m l } l=1 k are unknown and the random errors {? l,i,n } are dependent, following an MA(∞) structure. A new test is proposed for testing the hypothesis H 0: m 1?=?·?·?·?=?m k , without assuming that {m l } l=1 k are in a parametric family. The criterion of the test derives from a Crámer-von-Mises-type functional based on different distances between {[mcirc]} l and {[mcirc]} s , l?≠?s, l, s?=?1, …, k, where {[mcirc] l } l=1 k are nonparametric Gasser–Müller estimators of {m l } l=1 k . A generalization of the test to the case of unequal design points, with different sample sizes {n l } l=1 k and different design densities {f l } l=1 k , is also considered. The asymptotic normality of the test statistic is obtained under general conditions. Finally, a simulation study and an analysis with real data show a good behavior of the proposed test.  相似文献

The supremum of random variables representing a sequence of rewards is of interest in establishing the existence of optimal stopping rules. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for existence of moments of supn(Xn ? cn) and supn(Sn ? cn) where X1, X2, … are i.i.d. random variables, Sn = X1 + … + Xn, and cn = (nL(n))1/r, 0 < r < 2, L = 1, L = log, and L = log log. Following Cohn (1974), “rates of convergence” results are used in the proof.  相似文献

A RENEWAL THEOREM IN MULTIDIMENSIONAL TIME   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Let Yl, Y2,… be i.i.d., positive, integer-valued random variables with means, μ. Let the sequences {Yij, j= 1,2,…}, i= 1,…, r be independent copies of {Y1, Y2,…}. For n={n1,…, nr.}, n1≥1, let Sn=S?n1k1=1= 1 …S?nrkr=1 Yik1… Yrkr. We show that S?Nk=1S?k1=1…S?nr=1 P[[Sn= k] ? [μ-r N logr-1 (N)/(r-1)!] as N →∞.  相似文献

Let X1,X2,… be independent and identically distributed nonnegative random variables with mean μ, and let Sn = X1 + … + Xn. For each λ > 0 and each n ≥ 1, let An be the interval [λnY, ∞), where γ > 1 is a constant. The number of times that Sn is in An is denoted by N. As λ tends to zero, the asymtotic behavior of N is studied. Specifically under suitable conditions, the expectation of N is shown to be (μλ?1)β + o(λ?β/2 where β = 1/(γ-1) and the variance of N is shown to be (μλ?1)β(βμ1)2σ2 + o(λ) where σ2 is the variance of Xn.  相似文献

Estimators of σaand log σ which are functions of Σ(x?x)2/d are considered. Besides the usual sampling theory estimators, Bayesian point estimators which are the usual measures of location of the posterior distribution are given, and in each case an exact or asymptotic expression for the divisor d is stated.  相似文献

The problem of estimating ordered parameters is encountered in biological, agricultural, reliability and various other experiments. Consider two populations with densities f1(x11) and f2(x22) where ω12. The estimation of ω12) with the loss function, the sum of squared errors, is studied. when fi is the fi(,i,,i 2) density with ,i known, i=1,2; we obtain a class of minimax estimators. When ω12 we show some of these estimators are improved by the maximum likelihood estimator. For a general fi we give sufficient conditions for the minimaxity of the analogue of the Pitman estimator.  相似文献

Let π1,…,πp be p independent normal populations with means μ1…, μp and variances σ21,…, σ2p respectively. Let X(ni) be a simple random sample of size ni from πi, i = 1,…,p. Given the simple random samples X(n1),…, X(np) from π1,…,πp respectively, a test has been proposed for testing the homogeneity of variances H0: σ21=…σ2p, against the restricted alternative, H1: σ21≥…≥σ2p, with at least one strict inequality. Some properties of the test are discussed and critical values are tabulated.  相似文献

We develop a saddle-point approximation for the marginal density of a real-valued function p(), where is a general M-estimator of a p-dimensional parameter, that is, the solution of the system {n-1ljl (Yl,) = 0}j=1,…,p. The approximation is applied to several regression problems and yields very good accuracy for small samples. This enables us to compare different classes of estimators according to their finite-sample properties and to determine when asymptotic approximations are useful in practice.  相似文献

Consider n independent random variables Zi,…, Zn on R with common distribution function F, whose upper tail belongs to a parametric family F(t) = Fθ(t),t ≥ x0, where θ ∈ ? ? R d. A necessary and sufficient condition for the family Fθ, θ ∈ ?, is established such that the k-th largest order statistic Zn?k+1:n alone constitutes the central sequence yielding local asymptotic normality ( LAN ) of the loglikelihood ratio of the vector (Zn?i+1:n)1 i=kof the k largest order statistics. This is achieved for k = k(n)→n→∞∞ with k/n→n→∞ 0.

In the case of vectors of central order statistics ( Zr:n, Zr+1:n,…, Zs:n ), with r/n and s/n both converging to q ∈ ( 0,1 ), it turns out that under fairly general conditions any order statistic Zm:n with r ≤ m ≤s builds the central sequence in a pertaining LAN expansion. These results lead to asymptotically optimal tests and estimators of the underlying parameter, which depend on single order statistics only  相似文献

Let T2 i=z′iS?1zi, i==,…k be correlated Hotelling's T2 statistics under normality. where z=(z′i,…,z′k)′ and nS are independently distributed as Nkp((O,ρ?∑) and Wishart distribution Wp(∑, n), respectively. The purpose of this paper is to study the distribution function F(x1,…,xk) of (T2 i,…,T2 k) when n is large. First we derive an asymptotic expansion of the characteristic function of (T2 i,…,T2 k) up to the order n?2. Next we give asymptotic expansions for (T2 i,…,T2 k) in two cases (i)ρ=Ik and (ii) k=2 by inverting the expanded characteristic function up to the orders n?2 and n?1, respectively. Our results can be applied to the distribution function of max (T2 i,…,T2 k) as a special case.  相似文献

The authors give easy‐to‐check sufficient conditions for the geometric ergodicity and the finiteness of the moments of a random process xt = ?(xt‐1,…, xt‐p) + ?tσ(xt‐1,…, xt‐q) in which ?: Rp → R, σ Rq → R and (?t) is a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables. They deduce strong mixing properties for this class of nonlinear autoregressive models with changing conditional variances which includes, among others, the ARCH(p), the AR(p)‐ARCH(p), and the double‐threshold autoregressive models.  相似文献

Let Y1,…,Y n, (Y1 <Y2<…<Y n) be the order statistics of a random sample from a distribution F with density f on the realline. This paper gives a class of estimators of the derivativef'(x) of the density f at points x for which f has

a continuoussecond derivative. These estimators are based on spacings inthe order statistics Yj+kn -y j j = 1,…,n-kn,kn<n.  相似文献

Suppose that we have a nonparametric regression model Y = m(X) + ε with XRp, where X is a random design variable and is observed completely, and Y is the response variable and some Y-values are missing at random. Based on the “complete” data sets for Y after nonaprametric regression imputation and inverse probability weighted imputation, two estimators of the regression function m(x0) for fixed x0Rp are proposed. Asymptotic normality of two estimators is established, which is used to construct normal approximation-based confidence intervals for m(x0). We also construct an empirical likelihood (EL) statistic for m(x0) with limiting distribution of χ21, which is used to construct an EL confidence interval for m(x0).  相似文献

As a well known fact the standard X2-procedures (e.g. confidence intervals for σ2, tests of the hypothesis H:″σ=σo″ in the case of normal population with variance σ2) are biased. We refer to some useful tables which enable in the case of normal population to procure unbiased confidence intervals or confidence intervals with minimal length for σ2, control charts for σ with minimal distance between the limit lines, and unbiased tests of H:″σ=σo″. Another important application yields—as main result of the present paper—unbiased sampling plans in the case of an exponential distributed attribute with upper and lower specification limit (two-way-protection). It turns out to be possible, also in the case of exponential distribution, to reduce the sample size by using incomplete prior information about the proportion p of defectives.  相似文献

We consider a 2×2 contingency table, with dichotomized qualitative characters (A,A) and (B,B), as a sample of size n drawn from a bivariate binomial (0,1) distribution. Maximum likelihood estimates p?1p?2 and p? are derived for the parameters of the two marginals p1p2 and the coefficient of correlation. It is found that p? is identical to Pearson's (1904)?=(χ2/n)½, where ?2 is Pearson's usual chi-square for the 2×2 table. The asymptotic variance-covariance matrix of p?lp?2and p is also derived.  相似文献

Let πi(i=1,2,…K) be independent U(0,?i) populations. Let Yi denote the largest observation based on a random sample of size n from the i-th population. for selecting the best populaton, that is the one associated with the largest ?i, we consider the natural selection rule, according to which the population corresponding to the largest Yi is selected. In this paper, the estimation of M. the mean of the selected population is considered. The natural estimator is positively biased. The UMVUE (uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator) of M is derived using the (U,V)-method of Robbins (1987) and its asymptotic distribution is found. We obtain a minimax estimator of M for K≤4 and a class of admissible estimators among those of the form cYmax. For the case K = 2, the UMVUE is improved using the Brewster-Zidek (1974) Technique with respect to the squared error loss function L1 and the scale-invariant loss function L2. For the case K = 2, the MSE'S of all the estimators are compared for selected values of n and ρ=?1/(?1+?2).  相似文献
