The authors consider semiparametric efficient estimation of parameters in the conditional mean model for a simple incomplete data structure in which the outcome of interest is observed only for a random subset of subjects but covariates and surrogate (auxiliary) outcomes are observed for all. They use optimal estimating function theory to derive the semiparametric efficient score in closed form. They show that when covariates and auxiliary outcomes are discrete, a Horvitz‐Thompson type estimator with empirically estimated weights is semiparametric efficient. The authors give simulation studies validating the finite‐sample behaviour of the semiparametric efficient estimator and its asymptotic variance; they demonstrate the efficiency of the estimator in realistic settings.  相似文献

This article proposes semiparametric generalized least-squares estimation of parametric restrictions between the conditional mean and the conditional variance of excess returns given a set of parametric factors. A distinctive feature of our estimator is that it does not require a fully parametric model for the conditional mean and variance. We establish consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimates. The theory is nonstandard due to the presence of estimated factors. We provide sufficient conditions for the estimated factors not to have an impact in the asymptotic standard error of estimators. A simulation study investigates the finite sample performance of the estimates. Finally, an application to the CRSP value-weighted excess returns highlights the merits of our approach. In contrast to most previous studies using nonparametric estimates, we find a positive and significant price of risk in our semiparametric setting.  相似文献

This article introduces a semiparametric autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (ARCH) model that has conditional first and second moments given by autoregressive moving average and ARCH parametric formulations but a conditional density that is assumed only to be sufficiently smooth to be approximated by a nonparametric density estimator. For several particular conditional densities, the relative efficiency of the quasi-maximum likelihood estimator is compared with maximum likelihood under correct specification. These potential efficiency gains for a fully adaptive procedure are compared in a Monte Carlo experiment with the observed gains from using the proposed semiparametric procedure, and it is found that the estimator captures a substantial proportion of the potential. The estimator is applied to daily stock returns from small firms that are found to exhibit conditional skewness and kurtosis and to the British pound to dollar exchange rate.  相似文献

Stationary time series models built from parametric distributions are, in general, limited in scope due to the assumptions imposed on the residual distribution and autoregression relationship. We present a modeling approach for univariate time series data, which makes no assumptions of stationarity, and can accommodate complex dynamics and capture non-standard distributions. The model for the transition density arises from the conditional distribution implied by a Bayesian nonparametric mixture of bivariate normals. This results in a flexible autoregressive form for the conditional transition density, defining a time-homogeneous, non-stationary Markovian model for real-valued data indexed in discrete time. To obtain a computationally tractable algorithm for posterior inference, we utilize a square-root-free Cholesky decomposition of the mixture kernel covariance matrix. Results from simulated data suggest that the model is able to recover challenging transition densities and non-linear dynamic relationships. We also illustrate the model on time intervals between eruptions of the Old Faithful geyser. Extensions to accommodate higher order structure and to develop a state-space model are also discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

This study concerns semiparametric approaches to estimate discrete multivariate count regression functions. The semiparametric approaches investigated consist of combining discrete multivariate nonparametric kernel and parametric estimations such that (i) a prior knowledge of the conditional distribution of model response may be incorporated and (ii) the bias of the traditional nonparametric kernel regression estimator of Nadaraya-Watson may be reduced. We are precisely interested in combination of the two estimations approaches with some asymptotic properties of the resulting estimators. Asymptotic normality results were showed for nonparametric correction terms of parametric start function of the estimators. The performance of discrete semiparametric multivariate kernel estimators studied is illustrated using simulations and real count data. In addition, diagnostic checks are performed to test the adequacy of the parametric start model to the true discrete regression model. Finally, using discrete semiparametric multivariate kernel estimators provides a bias reduction when the parametric multivariate regression model used as start regression function belongs to a neighborhood of the true regression model.  相似文献

In this paper, an autoregressive time series model with conditional heteroscedasticity is considered, where both conditional mean and conditional variance function are modeled nonparametrically. Tests for the model assumption of independence of innovations from past time series values are suggested. Tests based on weighted L2‐distances of empirical characteristic functions are considered as well as a Cramér–von Mises‐type test. The asymptotic distributions under the null hypothesis of independence are derived, and the consistency against fixed alternatives is shown. A smooth autoregressive residual bootstrap procedure is suggested, and its performance is shown in a simulation study.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new approach, based on the recent developments of the wavelet theory, to model the dynamic of the exchange rate. First, we consider the maximum overlap discrete wavelet transform (MODWT) to decompose the level exchange rates into several scales. Second, we focus on modelling the conditional mean of the detrended series as well as their volatilities. In particular, we consider the generalized fractional, one-factor, Gegenbauer process (GARMA) to model the conditional mean and the fractionally integrated generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity process (FIGARCH) to model the conditional variance. Moreover, we estimate the GARMA-FIGARCH model using the wavelet-based maximum likelihood estimator (Whitcher in Technometrics 46:225–238, 2004). To illustrate the usefulness of our methodology, we carry out an empirical application using the daily Tunisian exchange rates relative to the American Dollar, the Euro and the Japanese Yen. The empirical results show the relevance of the selected modelling approach which contributes to a better forecasting performance of the exchange rate series.  相似文献

There are many situations in which a researcher would like to analyse data from a two‐way layout. Often, the assumptions of linearity and normality may not hold. To address such situations, we introduce a semiparametric model. The model extends the well‐known density ratio model from the one‐way to the two‐way layout and provides a useful framework for semiparametric analysis of variance type problems under order restrictions. In particular, the likelihood ratio order is emphasized. The model enables highly efficient inference without resorting to fully parametric assumptions or the use of transformations. Estimation and testing procedures under order restrictions are developed and investigated in detail. It is shown that the model is robust to misspecification, and several simulations suggest that it performs well in practice. The methodology is illustrated using two data examples; in the first, the response variable is discrete, whereas in the second, it is continuous.  相似文献

In this paper, we expand a first-order nonlinear autoregressive (AR) model with skew normal innovations. A semiparametric method is proposed to estimate a nonlinear part of model by using the conditional least squares method for parametric estimation and the nonparametric kernel approach for the AR adjustment estimation. Then computational techniques for parameter estimation are carried out by the maximum likelihood (ML) approach using Expectation-Maximization (EM) type optimization and the explicit iterative form for the ML estimators are obtained. Furthermore, in a simulation study and a real application, the accuracy of the proposed methods is verified.  相似文献

The double autoregressive model finds its use in the modelling of conditional heteroscedasticity of time series data. In view of its growing popularity, the goodness-of-fit of the model is examined. The asymptotic distributions of the residual and squared residual autocorrelations are derived. Two test statistics are then constructed which can be used to measure the adequacy of the conditional mean and conditional variance components of a fitted model. Our goodness-of-fit tests out-perform other benchmark tests such as the Ljung–Box test in simulation studies. To illustrate the testing procedure, the model is fitted to the weekly log-return series of the Hang Seng Index.  相似文献

It has been found that, for a variety of probability distributions, there is a surprising linear relation between mode, mean, and median. In this article, the relation between mode, mean, and median regression functions is assumed to follow a simple parametric model. We propose a semiparametric conditional mode (mode regression) estimation for an unknown (unimodal) conditional distribution function in the context of regression model, so that any m-step-ahead mean and median forecasts can then be substituted into the resultant model to deliver m-step-ahead mode prediction. In the semiparametric model, Least Squared Estimator (LSEs) for the model parameters and the simultaneous estimation of the unknown mean and median regression functions by the local linear kernel method are combined to infer about the parametric and nonparametric components of the proposed model. The asymptotic normality of these estimators is derived, and the asymptotic distribution of the parameter estimates is also given and is shown to follow usual parametric rates in spite of the presence of the nonparametric component in the model. These results are applied to obtain a data-based test for the dependence of mode regression over mean and median regression under a regression model.  相似文献

We study the persistence of intertrade durations, counts (number of transactions in equally spaced intervals of clock time), squared returns and realized volatility in 10 stocks trading on the New York Stock Exchange. A semiparametric analysis reveals the presence of long memory in all of these series, with potentially the same memory parameter. We introduce a parametric latent-variable long-memory stochastic duration (LMSD) model which is shown to better fit the data than the autoregressive conditional duration model (ACD) in a variety of ways. The empirical evidence we present here is in agreement with theoretical results on the propagation of memory from durations to counts and realized volatility presented in Deo et al. (2009).  相似文献

In this note, the asymptotic variance formulas are explicitly derived and compared between the parametric and semiparametric estimators of a regression parameter and survival probability under the additive hazards model. To obtain explicit formulas, it is assumed that the covariate term including a regression coefficient follows a gamma distribution and the baseline hazard function is constant. The results show that the semiparametric estimator of the regression coefficient parameter is fully efficient relative to the parametric counterpart when the survival time and a covariate are independent, as in the proportional hazards model. Relative to a more realistic case of the parametric additive hazards model with a Weibull baseline, the loss of efficiency of the semiparametric estimator of survival probability is moderate.  相似文献

Binomial thinning operator has a major role in modeling one-dimensional integer-valued autoregressive time series models. The purpose of this article is to extend the use of such operator to define a new stationary first-order spatial non negative, integer-valued autoregressive SINAR(1, 1) model. We study some properties of this model like the mean, variance and autocorrelation function. Yule-Walker estimator of the model parameters is also obtained. Some numerical results of the model are presented and, moreover, this model is applied to a real data set.  相似文献

This paper considers quantile regression for a wide class of time series models including autoregressive and moving average (ARMA) models with asymmetric generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity errors. The classical mean‐variance models are reinterpreted as conditional location‐scale models so that the quantile regression method can be naturally geared into the considered models. The consistency and asymptotic normality of the quantile regression estimator is established in location‐scale time series models under mild conditions. In the application of this result to ARMA‐generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity models, more primitive conditions are deduced to obtain the asymptotic properties. For illustration, a simulation study and a real data analysis are provided.  相似文献

In the field of financial time series, threshold-asymmetric conditional variance models can be used to explain asymmetric volatilities [C.W. Li and W.K. Li, On a double-threshold autoregressive heteroscedastic time series model, J. Appl. Econometrics 11 (1996), pp. 253–274]. In this paper, we consider a broad class of threshold-asymmetric GARCH processes (TAGARCH, hereafter) including standard ARCH and GARCH models as special cases. Since sample autocorrelation function provides a useful information to identify an appropriate time-series model for the data, we derive asymptotic distributions of sample autocorrelations both for original process and for squared process. It is verified that standard errors of sample autocorrelations for TAGARCH models are significantly different from unity for lower lags and they are exponentially converging to unity for higher lags. Furthermore they are shown to be asymptotically dependent while being independent of standard GARCH models. These results will be interesting in the light of the fact that TAGARCH processes are serially uncorrelated. A simulation study is reported to illustrate our results.  相似文献

This paper considers a time series model with a piecewise linear conditional mean and a piecewise linear conditional variance which is a natural extension of Tong's threshold autoregressive model. The model has potential applications in modelling asymmetric behaviour in volatility in the financial market. Conditions for stationarity and ergodicity are derived. Asymptotic properties of the maximum likelihood estimator and two model diagnostic checking statistics are also presented. An illustrative example based on the Hong Kong Hang Seng index is also reported.  相似文献

We consider the first-order Poisson autoregressive model proposed by McKenzie [Some simple models for discrete variate time series. Water Resour Bull. 1985;21:645–650] and Al-Osh and Alzaid [First-order integer valued autoregressive (INAR(1)) process. J Time Ser Anal. 1987;8:261–275], which may be suitable in situations where the time series data are non-negative and integer valued. We derive the second-order bias of the squared difference estimator [Weiß. Process capability analysis for serially dependent processes of Poisson counts. J Stat Comput Simul. 2012;82:383–404] for one of the parameters and show that this bias can be used to define a bias-reduced estimator. The behaviour of a modified conditional least-squares estimator is also studied. Furthermore, we access the asymptotic properties of the estimators here discussed. We present numerical evidence, based upon Monte Carlo simulation studies, showing that the here proposed bias-adjusted estimator outperforms the other estimators in small samples. We also present an application to a real data set.  相似文献

Non-Gaussian Conditional Linear AR(1) Models   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
This paper gives a general formulation of a non-Gaussian conditional linear AR(1) model subsuming most of the non-Gaussian AR(1) models that have appeared in the literature. It derives some general results giving properties for the stationary process mean, variance and correlation structure, and conditions for stationarity. These results highlight similarities with and differences from the Gaussian AR(1) model, and unify many separate results appearing in the literature. Examples illustrate the wide range of properties that can appear under the conditional linear autoregressive assumption. These results are used in analysing three real datasets, illustrating general methods of estimation, model diagnostics and model selection. In particular, the theoretical results can be used to develop diagnostics for deciding if a time series can be modelled by some linear autoregressive model, and for selecting among several candidate models.  相似文献

We propose data generating structures which can be represented as the nonlinear autoregressive models with single and finite mixtures of scale mixtures of skew normal innovations. This class of models covers symmetric/asymmetric and light/heavy-tailed distributions, so provide a useful generalization of the symmetrical nonlinear autoregressive models. As semiparametric and nonparametric curve estimation are the approaches for exploring the structure of a nonlinear time series data set, in this article the semiparametric estimator for estimating the nonlinear function of the model is investigated based on the conditional least square method and nonparametric kernel approach. Also, an Expectation–Maximization-type algorithm to perform the maximum likelihood (ML) inference of unknown parameters of the model is proposed. Furthermore, some strong and weak consistency of the semiparametric estimator in this class of models are presented. Finally, to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed model, some simulation studies and an application to real data set are considered.  相似文献
