Although wars and shifts of power happened constantly during the Southern and Northern dynasties (420-589), the exchange with foreign countries in culture and economy never stopped. Some art works unearthed from the tomb of General Li Xian of the Northern Zhou (died in 569) and his wife in the western suburb of Guyuan County, Ningxia in 1983 are the affirmation of that. These art works include a glass bowl with raised floral design, a  相似文献

Compliments and their responses are special speech actions which are broadly used in interpersonal communications. And how to give compliments and respond to them constitute a significant part of the communicative competence of every member in a speech community. Complimenting is a particularly suitable speech action to investigate in comparative studies, for it acts as a window through which we can view what is valued by a particular culture. This essay mainly analyzes and researches the differences between Chinese and English compliments, attempting to reveal the contrast between Chinese and English compliments in the aspects of expression, topics and lexical formulas. The comparative study may contribute to understand more about Chinese and English compliment cultures, and furthermore, promote the study of pragmatics and the development of intercultural communication effectively.  相似文献

Emily Bronte is one of the most famous and outstanding novelists in English literature. In her only novel Wuthering Heights, Emily successfully depicts a very complex character – Heathcliff, who is the central figure of the whole story. He is regarded as a devil for his brutal behaviors of revenge. However, his ruthlessness on the surface cannot completely reflect the feeling of his interior world. As a matter of fact, he is only a solitary and pitiable man who lives a miserable life since he is born. Although he acts entirely like a devil in pursuing revenge, he still can be called a hero because of the good qualities hidden in the depth of his soul. Heathcliff is such a unique character in Wuthering Heights that it is always difficult for readers to comprehend his inner conflict and make an appropriate judgment for him. This thesis offers a detailed analysis of Heathcliff's special character and gives a new interpretation for the complexity and profundity of human nature.  相似文献

Silkworm raising and silk reeling is a great contribution of ancient Chinese women to the world civilization and progress. When the Silk Road opened in the Hah Dynasty more than 2,000 years ago, westerners used to call China the Kingdom of Silk. The gauze dress unearthed from the Mawangdui No. 1 Tomb of the Han Dynasty in Hunan's Changsha, is as thin as cicada's wings and only weighs 49 grams. Made of high quality silk, this dress is as soft and light as the dress made of georgette, revealing the ancient Chinese weaving workers' high skill and talent. It is a silk dress, the earliest and best preserved in the world currently. Also excavated from the same tomb is a mummified woman's body. The woman was the wife of a prime minister of a kingdom  相似文献

I had my most delicious meal with noodles in a small village along the Yellow River. It was on a March day a decade ago, when I had just moved to Shanxi Province. I was out in the field as a reporter, and was exhausted and starving after traveling more than 50 kilometers on foot and by bus. A middle-aged man, whom I did not know, was standing in front of his dugout cave, the traditional dwelling of the Shanxi people." He called to me and invited me to have a meal in his home. Upon entering the cave, I was asked to sit on a kang, a brick bed, while the man's wife busied herself with cooking my meal. In no time a huge bowl of youpomian, noodles with Chinese prickly ash oil, was on the table in front of me. My nostrils were immediately filled with the strong and delicious smell of chili and prickly ash.  相似文献

IN the mid- and late-1980s a debate was held in China concerning the issue of women's employment. It was a time when economic reform involved both the management and labor force of the country's state-rum enterprises. What the Chinese women in the workforce had experienced from the late 1980s to the early 1990s in many ways differed from our predictions about the debate. Perhaps we can make a closer analysis of the trend in Chinese women's employment by learning the differences. Both the employment rate and the population of Chinese women in urban and rural areas have steadily grown as the economy has developed. In 1982 the Chinese workforce was  相似文献
