SUMMARY Restorative justice is a movement within criminal justice that draws from a conception of justice as personal rather than impersonal. This article offers a definition of restorative justice and describes its hallmark programs: victim offender mediation, conferencing, circles, restitution, and community service. It explores the differences between restorative justice and contemporary criminal justice, including their relative strengths. Whereas criminal justice derives from an impersonal conception of justice, restorative justice draws from a personal understanding. Differences between the two views of justice are described, and a brief survey of history and cultures demonstrates that personal conceptions of justice have played, and continue to play, significant roles in shaping societies' responses to crime. 相似文献

Beyond determining whether procedures can be manipulated, the real goal for any analysis of “strategic behavior” is to identify
all settings where and when this can be done, who can do it, and what they should do. By applying the geometric approach of
Saari [7, 8] to the Kemeny's Rule (KR), we demonstrate how surprisingly simple this analysis can be, we identify all three
candidate KR strategic behavior, and we show how an almost identical analysis answers most other multiple profile concerns
(e.g., the abstention paradox and when voters just make errors). We also introduce new measures, which can be used with any
procedure, to compare strategic and other behavior involving “changes.” These measures help to identify settings where it
may be more important to worry about honest mistakes than strategic voting.

This paper explores vulnerable relational knowing, and in it we open up our own embodied habits and experiences as feminist academics. We discuss how displaying our academic bodies as naked, both symbolically and physically, enhances and appreciates—instead of hiding—vulnerability. We also discuss how our academic bodies entangle with a range of more-than-human creatures and material surroundings to highlight the multispecies and material nature of vulnerable relational knowing. Two detailed stories, “Intimate sharing of academic knowledge: A recumbent study circle” and “Keropirtti: A place and space to work differently” provide unique examples of the enactment of alternative ways of working in academia, and their analysis demonstrates the potential of vulnerability for embodied relational knowing in academia, which has, to date, been commonly analyzed in the context of writing. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe essay investigates desire in Shakespeare’s Richard III as connected to Deleuze and Guattari’s line of flight and war machine. By following the drawing of the line of flight of betrayal and the setting of Richard’s war machine, and by investigating the constitution of his character as a Body without organs, it traces the production of the plane of immanence of a differential subjectivity where desire is free to become. 相似文献

It is known that certain hormones are involved in determining longevity (for example, insulin and insulin-like growth factor). Results presented in a paper published in this week's issue of Science allow us to add steroid hormones to this list. Anne Simon and colleagues show for the first time that a sterol hormone--ecdysone of the fly Drosophila melanogaster--regulates life span. In this Perspective, I discuss the implications of this result in the context of gene regulation and mechanisms of aging. 相似文献

Family therapy and Social Justice are vast words that condense (and obscure) many ideas, theories and practices. Family therapy in this country has been shaped by larger Australian conversations and movements around Social Justice, but the relations between Family Therapy and Social Justice are not simple. Looking back over ten years since our last Conference in Adelaide, I recall some personal and political experiences connecting Family Therapy and Social Justice, and go on to argue how newer post-modernist and feminist currents might enrich the links, and “keep the conversation going”. 相似文献
