Two new approaches to robust time series modelling are proposed. These approaches are natural generalisations of the Yule—Walker and the least squares methods. The approaches generate further a few viable estimators. Simulation experiments are conducted to investigate the relative efficiency and the breakdown bounds of these estimators.  相似文献

Aase (1983) has dealt with recursive estimation in nonlinear time series of autoregressive type including its asymptotic properties. This contribution modifies the results for the case of nonlinear time series with outliers using the principle of M-estimation from robust statistics. Strong consistency of the robust recursive estimates is preserved under corresponding assumptions. Several types of such estimates are compared by means of a numerical simulation.  相似文献

Motivated by the need of extracting local trends and low frequency components in non-stationary time series, this paper discusses methods of robust non-parametric smoothing. Basic approach is the combination of the parametric M-estimation with kernel and local polynomial regression methods. The result is an iterative estimator that retains a linear structure, but has kernel weights also in the direction of the prediction errors. The design of smoothing coefficients is carried out with robust cross-validation criteria and rules of thumb. The method works well both to remove the influence of patches of outliers and to detect the local breaks and persistent structural change in time series.  相似文献

In this work we propose an autoregressive model with parameters varying in time applied to irregularly spaced non-stationary time series. We expand all the functional parameters in a wavelet basis and estimate the coefficients by least squares after truncation at a suitable resolution level. We also present some simulations in order to evaluate both the estimation method and the model behavior on finite samples. Applications to silicates and nitrites irregularly observed data are provided as well.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article proposes a development of detecting patches of additive outliers in autoregressive time series models. The procedure improves the existing detection methods via Gibbs sampling. We combine the Bayesian method and the Kalman smoother to present some candidate models of outlier patches and the best model with the minimum Bayesian information criterion (BIC) is selected among them. We propose that this combined Bayesian and Kalman method (CBK) can reduce the masking and swamping effects about detecting patches of additive outliers. The correctness of the method is illustrated by simulated data and then by analyzing a real set of observations.  相似文献

The problem of estimating the parameters of moving average or autoregressive time series is studied when the error distribution is completely unknown. Four nonparametric maximum likelihood estimators (NPMLE) are presented for this purpose. These estimators are compared with the classical moment and least squares estimators in a simulation study. The behavior of these NPMLEs is much better than the classical ones, suggesting that they should be used extensively when no parametric information is known in advance about the error distribution. An application of these estimators to coal mining accidents data is also included.  相似文献

Efficient score tests exist among others, for testing the presence of additive and/or innovative outliers that are the result of the shifted mean of the error process under the regression model. A sample influence function of autocorrelation-based diagnostic technique also exists for the detection of outliers that are the result of the shifted autocorrelations. The later diagnostic technique is however not useful if the outlying observation does not affect the autocorrelation structure but is generated due to an inflation in the variance of the error process under the regression model. In this paper, we develop a unified maximum studentized type test which is applicable for testing the additive and innovative outliers as well as variance shifted outliers that may or may not affect the autocorrelation structure of the outlier free time series observations. Since the computation of the p-values for the maximum studentized type test is not easy in general, we propose a Satterthwaite type approximation based on suitable doubly non-central F-distributions for finding such p-values [F.E. Satterthwaite, An approximate distribution of estimates of variance components, Biometrics 2 (1946), pp. 110–114]. The approximations are evaluated through a simulation study, for example, for the detection of additive and innovative outliers as well as variance shifted outliers that do not affect the autocorrelation structure of the outlier free time series observations. Some simulation results on model misspecification effects on outlier detection are also provided.  相似文献

We suggest a new approach to hypothesis testing for ergodic and stationary processes. In contrast to standard methods, the suggested approach gives a possibility to make tests, based on any lossless data compression method even if the distribution law of the codeword lengths is not known. We apply this approach to the following four problems: goodness-of-fit testing (or identity testing), testing for independence, testing of serial independence and homogeneity testing and suggest nonparametric statistical tests for these problems. It is important to note that practically used so-called archivers can be used for suggested testing.  相似文献

This paper deals with the prediction of time series with missing data using an alternative formulation for Holt's model with additive errors. This formulation simplifies both the calculus of maximum likelihood estimators of all the unknowns in the model and the calculus of point forecasts. In the presence of missing data, the EM algorithm is used to obtain maximum likelihood estimates and point forecasts. Based on this application we propose a leave-one-out algorithm for the data transformation selection problem which allows us to analyse Holt's model with multiplicative errors. Some numerical results show the performance of these procedures for obtaining robust forecasts.  相似文献

Summary. We develop a general methodology for tilting time series data. Attention is focused on a large class of regression problems, where errors are expressed through autoregressive processes. The class has a range of important applications and in the context of our work may be used to illustrate the application of tilting methods to interval estimation in regression, robust statistical inference and estimation subject to constraints. The method can be viewed as 'empirical likelihood with nuisance parameters'.  相似文献

We deal with smoothed estimators for conditional probability functions of discrete-valued time series { Yt } under two different settings. When the conditional distribution of Yt given its lagged values falls in a parametric family and depends on exogenous random variables, a smoothed maximum (partial) likelihood estimator for the unknown parameter is proposed. While there is no prior information on the distribution, various nonparametric estimation methods have been compared and the adjusted Nadaraya–Watson estimator stands out as it shares the advantages of both Nadaraya–Watson and local linear regression estimators. The asymptotic normality of the estimators proposed has been established in the manner of sparse asymptotics, which shows that the smoothed methods proposed outperform their conventional, unsmoothed, parametric counterparts under very mild conditions. Simulation results lend further support to this assertion. Finally, the new method is illustrated via a real data set concerning the relationship between the number of daily hospital admissions and the levels of pollutants in Hong Kong in 1994–1995. An ad hoc model selection procedure based on a local Akaike information criterion is proposed to select the significant pollutant indices.  相似文献

The paper is a review of nonlinear processes used in time series analysis and presents some new original results about stationary distribution of a nonlinear autoregres-sive process of the first order. The following models are considered: nonlinear autoregessive processes, threshold AR processes, threshold MA processes, bilinear models, auto-regressive models with random parameters including double stochastic models, exponential AR models, generalized threshold models and smooth transition autoregressive models, Some tests for linearity of processes are also presented.  相似文献

A class of prior distributions for multivariate autoregressive models is presented. This class of priors is built taking into account the latent component structure that characterizes a collection of autoregressive processes. In particular, the state-space representation of a vector autoregressive process leads to the decomposition of each time series in the multivariate process into simple underlying components. These components may have a common structure across the series. A key feature of the proposed priors is that they allow the modeling of such common structure. This approach also takes into account the uncertainty in the number of latent processes, consequently handling model order uncertainty in the multivariate autoregressive framework. Posterior inference is achieved via standard Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods. Issues related to inference and exploration of the posterior distribution are discussed. We illustrate the methodology analyzing two data sets: a synthetic data set with quasi-periodic latent structure, and seasonally adjusted US monthly housing data consisting of housing starts and housing sales over the period 1965 to 1974.  相似文献

In this paper we work with multivariate time series that follow a Factor Model. In particular, we consider the setting where factors are dominated by highly persistent AutoRegressive (AR) processes and samples that are rather small. Therefore, the factors' AR models are estimated using small sample bias correction techniques. A Monte Carlo study reveals that bias-correcting the AR coefficients of the factors allows to obtain better results in terms of prediction interval coverage. As expected, the simulation shows that bias-correction is more successful for smaller samples. We present the results assuming the AR order and number of factors are known as well as unknown. We also study the advantages of this technique for a set of Industrial Production Indexes of several European countries.  相似文献
