We examine the behaviour of the sample autocorrelations of a seasonal time series for which the first difference of order s (s ≥ 1) is stationary. The asymptotic distribution of the autocorrelations r'(k) based on uncentered data and of the autocorrelations r(k) based on centered data are derived. In each case, the asymptotic distribution is characterized as a function of the lag k and the parameters of the process. A simulation study was conducted in order to investigate the rate of convergence of the finite sample distributions of r(k) and r'(k) to their asymptotic counterparts and to evaluate the effect of centering or not centering the data on the distribution of autocorrelations.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article develops an adjusted empirical likelihood (EL) method for the additive hazards model. The adjusted EL ratio is shown to have a central chi-squared limiting distribution under the null hypothesis. We also evaluate its asymptotic distribution as a non central chi-squared distribution under the local alternatives of order n? 1/2, deriving the expression for the asymptotic power function. Simulation studies and a real example are conducted to evaluate the finite sample performance of the proposed method. Compared with the normal approximation-based method, the proposed method tends to have more larger empirical power and smaller confidence regions with comparable coverage probabilities.  相似文献

For a class of discrete distributions, including Poisson(θ), Generalized Poisson(θ), Borel(m, θ), etc., we consider minimax estimation of the parameter θ under the assumption it lies in a bounded interval of the form [0, m] and a LINEX loss function. Explicit conditions for the minimax estimator to be Bayes with respect to a boundary supported prior are given. Also for Bernoulli(θ)-distribution, which is not in the mentioned class of discrete distributions, we give conditions for which the Bayes estimator of θ ∈ [0, m], m < 1 with respect to a boundary supported prior is minimax under LINEX loss function. Numerical values are given for the largest values of m for which the corresponding Bayes estimators of θ are minimax.  相似文献

A non-normal invariance principle is established for a restricted class of univariate multi-response permutation procedures whose distance measure is the square of Euclidean distance. For observations from a distribution with finite second moment, the test statistic is found asymptotically to have a centered chi-squared distribution. Spectral expansions are used to determine the asymptotic distribution for more general distance measures d, and it is shown that if d(x, y) = |x — y|u, u? 2, the asymptotic distribution is not invariant (i.e. it is dependent on the distribution of the observations).  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we study a class of small deviation theorems for the random variables associated with mth-order asymptotic circular Markov chains. First, the definition of mth-order asymptotic circular Markov chain is introduced, then by applying the known results of the limit theorem for mth-order non homogeneous Markov chain, the small deviation theorem on the frequencies of occurrence of states for mth-order asymptotic circular Markov chains is established. Next, the strong law of large numbers and asymptotic equipartition property for this Markov chains are obtained. Finally, some results of mth-order nonhomogeneous Markov chains are given.  相似文献

Abstract

The main goal of this paper is to study the estimation of the conditional hazard function of a scalar response variable Y given a hilbertian random variable X in functional single-index model. We construct an estimator of this nonparametric function and we study its asymptotic properties, under quasi-associated structure. Precisely, we establish the asymptotic normality of the constructed estimator. We carried out simulation experiments to examine the behavior of this asymptotic property over finite sample data.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A two parameter extended form of standard gamma function is suggested which provide extra flexibility to the density function over positive range. A finite mixture of beta distribution is defined by using the suggested extended form. The shape of density function of extended gamma distribution and also that of finite mixture of beta distribution for various values of the parameters are shown. Inverted distribution of extended gamma and that of finite mixture of beta distribution are given.  相似文献

The authors consider hidden Markov models (HMMs) whose latent process has m ≥ 2 states and whose state‐dependent distributions arise from a general one‐parameter family. They propose a test of the hypothesis m = 2. Their procedure is an extension to HMMs of the modified likelihood ratio statistic proposed by Chen, Chen & Kalbfleisch (2004) for testing two states in a finite mixture. The authors determine the asymptotic distribution of their test under the hypothesis m = 2 and investigate its finite‐sample properties in a simulation study. Their test is based on inference for the marginal mixture distribution of the HMM. In order to illustrate the additional difficulties due to the dependence structure of the HMM, they show how to test general regular hypotheses on the marginal mixture of HMMs via a quasi‐modified likelihood ratio. They also discuss two applications.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The product-limit estimator (PLE) is a well-known nonparametric estimator for the distribution function of the lifetime when data are left-truncated and right-censored. Much work has focused on developing its asymptotic properties. Finite sample results have been difficult to obtain. This article is concerned about finite moments of the PLE. The moments of the PLE can be represented as a power series in n ?1. In addition, through the U-statistic mechanism, we obtain also computable formulas for the first, second, third, and fourth of the PLE up to o(n ?2). Finally, a numerical example is presented.  相似文献

The least-absolute-deviation estimate of a monotone regression function on an interval has been studied in the literature. If the observation points become dense in the interval, the almost sure rate of convergence has been shown to be O(n1/4). Applying the techniques used by Brunk (1970, Nonparametric, Techniques in Statistical Inference. Cambridge Univ. Press), the asymptotic distribution of the l1 estimator at a point is obtained. If the underlying regression function has positive slope at the point, the rate of convergence is seen to be O(n1/3). Monotone percentile regression estimates are also considered.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the estimation of the stress–strength parameter R=P(Y<X) when X and Y are independent and both are modified Weibull distributions with the common two shape parameters but different scale parameters. The Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling method is used for posterior inference of the reliability of the stress–strength model. The maximum-likelihood estimator of R and its asymptotic distribution are obtained. Based on the asymptotic distribution, the confidence interval of R can be obtained using the delta method. We also propose a bootstrap confidence interval of R. The Bayesian estimators with balanced loss function, using informative and non-informative priors, are derived. Different methods and the corresponding confidence intervals are compared using Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In the case of the random design nonparametric regression, the double smoothing technique is applied to estimate the multivariate regression function. The proposed estimator has desirable properties in both the finite sample and the asymptotic cases. In the finite sample case, it has bounded conditional (and unconditional) bias and variance. On the other hand, in the asymptotic case, it has the same mean square error as the local linear estimator in Fan (Design-Adaptive Nonparametric Regression. Journal of the American Statistical Association 1992, 87, 998–1004; Local Linear Regression Smoothers and Their Minimax Efficiencies. Annals of Statistics 1993, 21, 196–216). Simulation studies demonstrate that the proposed estimator is better than the local linear estimator, because it has a smaller sample mean integrated square error and gives smoother estimates.  相似文献

Abstract

For a discrete‐time closed cyclic network of single server queues whose service rates are non‐decreasing in the queue length, we compute the queue‐length distribution at each node in terms of throughputs of related networks. For the asymptotic analysis, we consider sequences of networks where the number of nodes grows to infinity, service rates are taken only from a fixed finite set of non‐decreasing sequences, the ratio of customers to nodes has a limit, and the proportion of nodes for each possible service‐rate sequence has a limit. Under these assumptions, the asymptotic throughput exists and is calculated explicitly. Furthermore, the asymptotic queue‐length distribution at any node can be obtained in terms of the asymptotic throughput. The asymptotic throughput, regarded as a function of the limiting customer‐to‐node ratio, is strictly increasing for ratios up to a threshold value (possibly infinite) and is constant thereafter. For ratios less than the threshold, the asymptotic queue‐length distribution at each node has finite moments of all orders. However, at or above the threshold, bottlenecks (nodes with asymptotically‐infinite mean queue length) do occur, and we completely characterize such nodes.  相似文献

A study of the distribution of a statistic involves two major steps: (a) working out its asymptotic, large n, distribution, and (b) making the connection between the asymptotic results and the distribution of the statistic for the sample sizes used in practice. This crucial second step is not included in many studies. In this article, the second step is applied to Durbin's (1951) well-known rank test of treatment effects in balanced incomplete block designs (BIB's). We found that asymptotic, χ2, distributions do not provide adequate approximations in most BIB's. Consequently, we feel that several of Durbin's recommendations should be altered.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present analytic methods for determining the asymptotic behaviour of the coefficents of power series that can be applied to homogeneous discrete quasi death and birth processes. It turns that there are in principle only three types for the asymptotic behaviour. The process either converges to the stationary distribution or it can be approximated in terms of a reflected Brownian motion or by a Brownian motion. In terms of Markov chains these cases correspond to positive recurrence, to null recurrence, and to non recurrence. The same results hold for the continuous case, too.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article is concerned with some parametric and nonparametric estimators for the k-fold convolution of a distribution function. An alternative estimator is proposed and its unbiasedness, asymptotic unbiasedness, and consistency properties are investigated. The asymptotic normality of this estimator is established. Some applications of the estimator are given in renewal processes. Finally, the computational procedures are described and the relative performance of these estimators for small sample sizes is investigated by a simulation study.  相似文献

Kolmogorov–Smirnov-type and Cramér–von Mises-type goodness-of-fit tests are proposed for the null hypothesis that the distribution of a random vector X is spherically symmetric. The test statistics utilize the fact that X has a spherical symmetric distribution if, and only if, the characteristic function of X is constant over surfaces of spheres centred at the origin. Both tests come in convenient forms that are straightforwardly applicable with the computer. The asymptotic null distribution of the test statistics as well as the consistency of the tests is investigated under general conditions. Since both the finite sample and the asymptotic null distribution depend on the unknown distribution of the Euclidean norm of X, a conditional Monte Carlo procedure is used to actually carry out the tests. Results on the behaviour of the test in finite-samples are included along with a real-data example.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We present a new estimator of extreme quantiles dedicated to Weibull tail distributions. This estimate is based on a consistent estimator of the Weibull tail coefficient. This parameter is defined as the regular variation coefficient of the inverse cumulative hazard function. We give conditions in order to obtain the weak consistency and the asymptotic distribution of the extreme quantiles estimator. Its asymptotic as well as its finite sample performances are compared to classical ones.  相似文献

Let Q be a stable and conservative Q‐matrix over a countable state space S consisting of an irreducible class C and a single absorbing state 0 that is accessible from C. Suppose that Q admits a finite μ‐subinvariant measure m on C. We derive necessary and sufficient conditions for there to exist a Q‐process for which m is μ‐invariant on C, as well as a necessary condition for the uniqueness of such a process.  相似文献

We propose the L1 distance between the distribution of a binned data sample and a probability distribution from which it is hypothetically drawn as a statistic for testing agreement between the data and a model. We study the distribution of this distance for N-element samples drawn from k bins of equal probability and derive asymptotic formulae for the mean and dispersion of L1 in the large-N limit. We argue that the L1 distance is asymptotically normally distributed, with the mean and dispersion being accurately reproduced by asymptotic formulae even for moderately large values of N and k.  相似文献
