Recently, Shabbir and Gupta [Shabbir, J. and Gupta, S. (2011). On estimating finite population mean in simple and stratified random sampling. Communications in Statistics-Theory and Methods, 40(2), 199–212] defined a class of ratio type exponential estimators of population mean under a very specific linear transformation of auxiliary variable. In the present article, we propose a generalized class of ratio type exponential estimators of population mean in simple random sampling under a very general linear transformation of auxiliary variable. Shabbir and Gupta's [Shabbir, J. and Gupta, S. (2011). On estimating finite population mean in simple and stratified random sampling. Communications in Statistics-Theory and Methods, 40(2), 199–212] class of estimators is a particular member of our proposed class of estimators. It has been found that the optimal estimator of our proposed generalized class of estimators is always more efficient than almost all the existing estimators defined under the same situations. Moreover, in comparison to a few existing estimators, our proposed estimator becomes more efficient under some simple conditions. Theoretical results obtained in the article have been verified by taking a numerical illustration. Finally, a simulation study has been carried out to see the relative performance of our proposed estimator with respect to some existing estimators which are less efficient under certain conditions as compared to the proposed estimator.  相似文献

Ratio and product estimators in stratified random sampling   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Khoshnevisan et al. [2007. A general family of estimators for estimating population mean using known value of some population parameter(s). Far East Journal of Theoretical Statistics 22, 181–191] have introduced a family of estimators using auxiliary information in simple random sampling. They have showed that these estimators are more efficient than the classical ratio estimator and that the minimum value of the mean square error (MSE) of this family is equal to the value of MSE of regression estimator. In this article, we adapt the estimators in this family to the stratified random sampling and motivated by the estimator in Searls [1964. Utilization of known coefficient of kurtosis in the estimation procedure of variance. Journal of the American Statistical Association 59, 1225–1226], we also propose a new family of estimators for the stratified random sampling. The expressions of bias and MSE of the adapted and proposed families are derived in a general form. Besides, considering the minimum cases of these MSE equations, the efficient conditions between the adapted and proposed families are obtained. Moreover, these theoretical findings are supported by a numerical example with original data.  相似文献

This paper deals with estimation of population median in simple and stratified random samplings by using auxiliary information. Auxiliary information is rarely used in estimating population median, although there have been many studies to estimate population mean using auxiliary information. In this study, we suggest some estimators using auxiliary information such as mode and range of an auxiliary variable and correlation coefficient. We also expand these estimators to stratified random sampling for combined and separate estimators. We obtain mean square error equations for all proposed estimators and find theoretical conditions. These conditions are also supported by using numerical examples.  相似文献

Neoteric ranked set sampling (NRSS) is a recently developed sampling plan, derived from the well-known ranked set sampling (RSS) scheme. It has already been proved that NRSS provides more efficient estimators for population mean and variance compared to RSS and other sampling designs based on ranked sets. In this work, we propose and evaluate the performance of some two-stage sampling designs based on NRSS. Five different sampling schemes are proposed. Through an extensive Monte Carlo simulation study, we verified that all proposed sampling designs outperform RSS, NRSS, and the original double RSS design, producing estimators for the population mean with a lower mean square error. Furthermore, as with NRSS, two-stage NRSS estimators present some bias for asymmetric distributions. We complement the study with a discussion on the relative performance of the proposed estimators. Moreover, an additional simulation based on data of the diameter and height of pine trees is presented.  相似文献

Log-normal linear models are widely used in applications, and many times it is of interest to predict the response variable or to estimate the mean of the response variable at the original scale for a new set of covariate values. In this paper we consider the problem of efficient estimation of the conditional mean of the response variable at the original scale for log-normal linear models. Several existing estimators are reviewed first, including the maximum likelihood (ML) estimator, the restricted ML (REML) estimator, the uniformly minimum variance unbiased (UMVU) estimator, and a bias-corrected REML estimator. We then propose two estimators that minimize the asymptotic mean squared error and the asymptotic bias, respectively. A parametric bootstrap procedure is also described to obtain confidence intervals for the proposed estimators. Both the new estimators and the bootstrap procedure are very easy to implement. Comparisons of the estimators using simulation studies suggest that our estimators perform better than the existing ones, and the bootstrap procedure yields confidence intervals with good coverage properties. A real application of estimating the mean sediment discharge is used to illustrate the methodology.  相似文献

In a longitudinal study, an individual is followed up over a period of time. Repeated measurements on the response and some time-dependent covariates are taken at a series of sampling times. The sampling times are often irregular and depend on covariates. In this paper, we propose a sampling adjusted procedure for the estimation of the proportional mean model without having to specify a sampling model. Unlike existing procedures, the proposed method is robust to model misspecification of the sampling times. Large sample properties are investigated for the estimators of both regression coefficients and the baseline function. We show that the proposed estimation procedure is more efficient than the existing procedures. Large sample confidence intervals for the baseline function are also constructed by perturbing the estimation equations. A simulation study is conducted to examine the finite sample properties of the proposed estimators and to compare with some of the existing procedures. The method is illustrated with a data set from a recurrent bladder cancer study.  相似文献

One problem of skew normal model is the difficulty in estimating the shape parameter, for which the maximum likelihood estimate may be infinite when sample size is moderate. The existing estimators suffer from large bias even for moderate size samples. In this article, we proposed five estimators of the shape parameter for a scalar skew normal model, either by bias correction method or by solving a modified score equation. Simulation studies show that except bootstrap estimator, the proposed estimators have smaller bias compared to those estimators in literature for small and moderate samples.  相似文献

In this paper we study the problem of reducing the bias of the ratio estimator of the population mean in a ranked set sampling (RSS) design. We first propose a jackknifed RSS-ratio estimator and then introduce a class of almost unbiased RSS-ratio estimators of the population mean. We also present an unbiased RSS-ratio estimator of the mean using the idea of Hartley and Ross (Nature 174:270?C271, 1954) which performs better than its counterpart with simple random sample data. We show that under certain conditions the proposed unbiased and almost unbiased RSS-ratio estimators perform better than the commonly used (biased) RSS-ratio estimator in estimating the population mean in terms of the mean square error. The theoretical results are augmented by a simulation study using a wheat yield data set from the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture to demonstrate the practical benefits of our proposed ratio-type estimators relative to the RSS-ratio estimator in reducing the bias in estimating the average wheat production.  相似文献

Recurrent events data with a terminal event often arise in many longitudinal studies. Most of existing models assume multiplicative covariate effects and model the conditional recurrent event rate given survival. In this article, we propose a marginal additive rates model for recurrent events with a terminal event, and develop two procedures for estimating the model parameters. The asymptotic properties of the resulting estimators are established. In addition, some numerical procedures are presented for model checking. The finite-sample behavior of the proposed methods is examined through simulation studies, and an application to a bladder cancer study is also illustrated.  相似文献

Recently, a hybrid ranked set sampling (HRSS) scheme has been proposed in the literature. The HRSS scheme encompasses several existing ranked set sampling (RSS) schemes, and it is a cost-effective alternative to the classical RSS and double RSS schemes. In this paper, we propose an improved estimator for estimating the cumulative distribution function (CDF) using HRSS. It is shown, both theoretically and numerically, that the CDF estimator under HRSS scheme is unbiased and its variance is always less than the variance of the CDF estimator with simple random sampling (SRS). An unbiased estimator of the variance of CDF estimator using HRSS is also derived. Using Monte Carlo simulations, we also study the performances of the proposed and existing CDF estimators under both perfect and imperfect rankings. It turns out that the proposed CDF estimator is by far a superior alternative to the existing CDF estimators with SRS, RSS and L-RSS schemes. For a practical application, a real data set is considered on the bilirubin level of babies in neonatal intensive care.  相似文献

Ratio estimators of effect are ordinarily obtained by exponentiating maximum-likelihood estimators (MLEs) of log-linear or logistic regression coefficients. These estimators can display marked positive finite-sample bias, however. We propose a simple correction that removes a substantial portion of the bias due to exponentiation. By combining this correction with bias correction on the log scale, we demonstrate that one achieves complete removal of second-order bias in odds ratio estimators in important special cases. We show how this approach extends to address bias in odds or risk ratio estimators in many common regression settings. We also propose a class of estimators that provide reduced mean bias and squared error, while allowing the investigator to control the risk of underestimating the true ratio parameter. We present simulation studies in which the proposed estimators are shown to exhibit considerable reduction in bias, variance, and mean squared error compared to MLEs. Bootstrapping provides further improvement, including narrower confidence intervals without sacrificing coverage.  相似文献

Semiparametric regression models and estimating covariance functions are very useful in longitudinal study. Unfortunately, challenges arise in estimating the covariance function of longitudinal data collected at irregular time points. In this article, for mean term, a partially linear model is introduced and for covariance structure, a modified Cholesky decomposition approach is proposed to heed the positive-definiteness constraint. We estimate the regression function by using the local linear technique and propose quasi-likelihood estimating equations for both the mean and covariance structures. Moreover, asymptotic normality of the resulting estimators is established. Finally, simulation study and real data analysis are used to illustrate the proposed approach.  相似文献

Two-phase stratified sampling has been extensively used in large epidemiologic studies as a way of reducing costs associated with assembling covariate histories and enlarging relative sample sizes of the most informative subgroups. In this article, we investigate case-cohort sampled current status data under the additive risk model assumption. We describe a class of estimating equations, each depending on a different prevalence ratio estimate. Asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators and inference based on the “m out of n” nonparametric bootstrap are investigated. A small simulation study is employed to evaluate the finite sample performance and relative efficiency of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

Longitudinal surveys have emerged in recent years as an important data collection tool for population studies where the primary interest is to examine population changes over time at the individual level. Longitudinal data are often analyzed through the generalized estimating equations (GEE) approach. The vast majority of existing literature on the GEE method; however, is developed under non‐survey settings and are inappropriate for data collected through complex sampling designs. In this paper the authors develop a pseudo‐GEE approach for the analysis of survey data. They show that survey weights must and can be appropriately accounted in the GEE method under a joint randomization framework. The consistency of the resulting pseudo‐GEE estimators is established under the proposed framework. Linearization variance estimators are developed for the pseudo‐GEE estimators when the finite population sampling fractions are small or negligible, a scenario often held for large‐scale surveys. Finite sample performances of the proposed estimators are investigated through an extensive simulation study using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth. The results show that the pseudo‐GEE estimators and the linearization variance estimators perform well under several sampling designs and for both continuous and binary responses. The complexity of semiparametric models poses new challenges to statistical inference and model selection that frequently arise from real applications. In this work, we propose new estimation and variable selection procedures for the semiparametric varying-coefficient partially linear model. We first study quantile regression estimates for the nonparametric varying-coefficient functions and the parametric regression coefficients. To achieve nice efficiency properties, we further develop a semiparametric composite quantile regression procedure. We establish the asymptotic normality of proposed estimators for both the parametric and nonparametric parts and show that the estimators achieve the best convergence rate. Moreover, we show that the proposed method is much more efficient than the least-squares-based method for many non-normal errors and that it only loses a small amount of efficiency for normal errors. In addition, it is shown that the loss in efficiency is at most 11.1% for estimating varying coefficient functions and is no greater than 13.6% for estimating parametric components. To achieve sparsity with high-dimensional covariates, we propose adaptive penalization methods for variable selection in the semiparametric varying-coefficient partially linear model and prove that the methods possess the oracle property. Extensive Monte Carlo simulation studies are conducted to examine the finite-sample performance of the proposed procedures. Finally, we apply the new methods to analyze the plasma beta-carotene level data.  相似文献

We propose separate ratio estimators for population variance in stratified random sampling. We obtain mean square error equations and compare proposed estimators about efficiency with each other. By these comparisons, we find the conditions which make proposed estimators more efficient than others. It has been shown that proposed classes of estimators are more efficient than usual unbiased estimator. We find that separate ratio estimators are more efficient than combined ratio estimators for population variance. The theoretical results are supported by a numerical illustration with original data. A simulation study is also carried out to investigate empirical performance of estimators.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a general class of partially linear transformation models for recurrent gap time data, which extends the linear transformation models by incorporating non linear covariate effects and includes the partially linear proportional hazards and the partially linear proportional odds models as special cases. Both global and local estimating equations are developed to estimate the parametric and non parametric covariate effects, and the asymptotic properties of the resulting estimators are established. The finite-sample behavior of the proposed estimators is evaluated through simulation studies, and an application to a clinic study on chronic granulomatous disease is provided.  相似文献

Efficient inference for regression models requires that the heteroscedasticity be taken into account. We consider statistical inference under heteroscedasticity in a semiparametric measurement error regression model, in which some covariates are measured with errors. This paper has multiple components. First, we propose a new method for testing the heteroscedasticity. The advantages of the proposed method over the existing ones are that it does not need any nonparametric estimation and does not involve any mismeasured variables. Second, we propose a new two-step estimator for the error variances if there is heteroscedasticity. Finally, we propose a weighted estimating equation-based estimator (WEEBE) for the regression coefficients and establish its asymptotic properties. Compared with existing estimators, the proposed WEEBE is asymptotically more efficient, avoids undersmoothing the regressor functions and requires less restrictions on the observed regressors. Simulation studies show that the proposed test procedure and estimators have nice finite sample performance. A real data set is used to illustrate the utility of our proposed methods.  相似文献

The quantile residual lifetime function provides comprehensive quantitative measures for residual life, especially when the distribution of the latter is skewed or heavy‐tailed and/or when the data contain outliers. In this paper, we propose a general class of semiparametric quantile residual life models for length‐biased right‐censored data. We use the inverse probability weighted method to correct the bias due to length‐biased sampling and informative censoring. Two estimating equations corresponding to the quantile regressions are constructed in two separate steps to obtain an efficient estimator. Consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimator are established. The main difficulty in implementing our proposed method is that the estimating equations associated with the quantiles are nondifferentiable, and we apply the majorize–minimize algorithm and estimate the asymptotic covariance using an efficient resampling method. We use simulation studies to evaluate the proposed method and illustrate its application by a real‐data example.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a generalized class of estimators for finite population mean using two auxiliary variables in two-phase stratified sampling for non response. We identify 17 estimators as special cases of the proposed class of estimators. Expressions for the bias and mean squared error (MSE) of estimators are obtained up to first order of approximation. A data set is used for efficiency comparisons.  相似文献
