In Butler (1984a) a semi-translation block was defined and a classification given of all symmetric 2-(υ,k,λ) designs with λ>1, which contain more than one such block. In this paper we consider symmetric designs of type V and VI. We show that symmetric designs of type V are also of type VI, and in addition we show that all such designs can be obtained from a Pn,q by a construction which we give. Finally examples of proper symmetric designs of type V which are not of type VI are given.  相似文献

A number of D-optimal weighing designs are constructed with the help of block matrices. The D-optimal designs (n,k,s)=(19,13,10), (19,14,7), (19,14,8), (19,15,7), (19,15,8), (19,17,6), (19,18,6), (23,16,8), (23,17,8), (23,18,8), (4n?1,2n+3,(3n+4)/2), (4n?1,2n+4,n+3), (4n?1,2n+4,n+2) where n≡0 mod 4 and a skew Hn exists, (31,24,8), (31,25,8) and many others are constructed. The set of distinct blocks of a block design is known as its support. We construct complete designs with parameters v(?7), k=3, λ=v ? 2 which contain a block of maximal multiplicity and with support size b1 = (v3) ? 4(v ? 2). Any complete design which contains such a block, and has parameters v, k, λ as above, must be supported on at most (v3) ? 4(v ? 2) blocks. Attention is given to complete designs because of their direct relationship to simple random sampling.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the problem of determining block designs which are optimal under type 1 optimality criteria within various classes of designs having υ treatments arranged in b blocks of size k. The solutions to two optimization problems are given which are related to a general result obtained by Cheng (1978) and which are useful in this investigation. As one application of the solutions obtained, the definition of a regular graph design given in Mitchell and John (1977) is extended to that of a semi-regular graph design and some sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of a semi-regular graph design which is optimal under a given type 1 criterion. A result is also given which shows how the sufficient conditions derived can be used to establish the optimality under a specific type 1 criterion of some particular types of semi- regular graph designs having both equal and unequal numbers of replicates. Finally,some sufficient conditions are obtained for the dual of an A- or D-optimal design to be A- or D-optimal within an appropriate class of dual designs.  相似文献

For given positive integers v, b, and k (all of them ≥2) a block design is a k × b array of the variety labels 1,…,v with blocks as columns. For the usual one-way heterogeneity model in standard form the problem is studied of finding a D-optimal block design for estimating the variety contrasts, when no balanced block design (BBD) exists. The paper presents solutions to this problem for v≤6. The results on D-optimality are derived from a graph-theoretic context. Block designs can be considered as multigraphs, and a block design is D-optimal iff its multigraph has greatest complexity (=number of spanning trees).  相似文献

A stochastic approximation procedure of the Robbins-Monro type is considered. The original idea behind the Newton-Raphson method is used as follows. Given n approximations X1,…, Xn with observations Y1,…, Yn, a least squares line is fitted to the points (Xm, Ym),…, (Xn, Yn) where m<n may depend on n. The (n+1)st approximation is taken to be the intersection of the least squares line with y=0. A variation of the resulting process is studied. It is shown that this process yields a strongly consistent sequence of estimates which is asymptotically normal with minimal asymptotic variance.  相似文献

We define certain functions of A called the alias component matrices, and use these to partition the coefficient matrix X (n×v), occuring in the corresponding linear model, into components X.j(j=0,1,…,g), such that the information matrix X is the direct sum of the X′.jX.j. Here, v is the total number of parameters, which consist of (possibly μ), and a (general) set of (geometric) factorial effects (each carrying (s?1) degrees of freedom as usual). For j≠0, we show that the spectrum of X′.jX.j does not change if we change (in a certain important way) the usual definition of the effects. Assuming that such change has been adopted, we consider the partition of the X.j into the Xij (i=1,…,f). Furthermore, the Xij are in turn partitioned into smaller matrices (which we shall here call the) Xijh. We show that each Xijh can be factored into a product of 3 matrices J, ζ (not depending on i,j, and h) and Q(j,h,i)where both the Kronecker and ordinary product are used. We introduce a ring R using the additive groups of the rational field and GF(s), and show that the Q(j,h,i) belong to a ring isomorphic to R. When s is a prime number, we show that R is the cyclotomic field. Finally, we show that the study of the X.j and X′.jX.j can be done in a much simpler manner, in terms of certain relatively small sized matrices over R.  相似文献

Optimality properties of approximate block designs are studied under variations of (1) the class of competing designs, (2) the optimality criterion, (3) the parametric function of interest, and (4) the statistical model. The designs which are optimal turn out to be the product of their treatment and block marginals, and uniform designs when the support is specified in advance. Optimality here means uniform, universal, and simultaneous jp-optimality. The classical balanced incomplete block designs are embedded into this approach, and shown to be simultaneously jp-optimal for a maximal system of identifiable parameters. A geometric account of universal optimality is given which applies beyond the context of block designs.  相似文献

A G-design of order n is a pair (P,B) where P is the vertex set of the complete graph Kn and B is an edge-disjoint decomposition of Kn into copies of the simple graph G. Following design terminology, we call these copies “blocks”. Here K4 - e denotes the complete graph K4 with one edge removed. It is well-known that a K4 - e design of order n exists if and only if n ≡ 0 or 1 (mod 5), n ⩾ 6. The intersection problem here asks for which k is it possible to find two K4 - e designs (P,B1) and (P,B2) of order n, with |B1B2| = k, that is, with precisely k common blocks. Here we completely solve this intersection problem for K4 - e designs.  相似文献

The probability function and binomial moments of the number NnNn of (upper) records up to time (index) n in a geometrically increasing population are obtained in terms of the signless q-Stirling numbers of the first kind, with q   being the inverse of the proportion λλ of the geometric progression. Further, a strong law of large numbers and a central limit theorem for the sequence of random variables NnNn, n=1,2,…,n=1,2,, are deduced. As a corollary the probability function of the time TkTk of the kth record is also expressed in terms of the signless q  -Stirling numbers of the first kind. The mean of TkTk is obtained as a q  -series with terms of alternating sign. Finally, the probability function of the inter-record time Wk=Tk-Tk-1Wk=Tk-Tk-1 is obtained as a sum of a finite number of terms of q  -numbers. The mean of WkWk is expressed by a q-series. As k   increases to infinity the distribution of WkWk converges to a geometric distribution with failure probability q. Additional properties of the q-Stirling numbers of the first kind, which facilitate the present study, are derived.  相似文献

Complete sets of orthogonal F-squares of order n = sp, where g is a prime or prime power and p is a positive integer have been constructed by Hedayat, Raghavarao, and Seiden (1975). Federer (1977) has constructed complete sets of orthogonal F-squares of order n = 4t, where t is a positive integer. We give a general procedure for constructing orthogonal F-squares of order n from an orthogonal array (n, k, s, 2) and an OL(s, t) set, where n is not necessarily a prime or prime power. In particular, we show how to construct sets of orthogonal F-squares of order n = 2sp, where s is a prime or prime power and p is a positive integer. These sets are shown to be near complete and approach complete sets as s and/or p become large. We have also shown how to construct orthogonal arrays by these methods. In addition, the best upper bound on the number t of orthogonal F(n, λ1), F(n, λ2), …, F(n, λ1) squares is given.  相似文献

We consider paths in the plane with (1,01,0), (0,10,1), and (a,ba,b)-steps that start at the origin, end at height nn, and stay strictly to the left of a given non-decreasing right boundary. We show that if the boundary is periodic and has slope at most b/ab/a, then the ordinary generating function for the number of such paths ending at height n   is algebraic. Our argument is in two parts. We use a simple combinatorial decomposition to obtain an Appell relation or “umbral” generating function, in which the power znzn is replaced by a power series of the form znφn(z),znφn(z), where φn(0)=1.φn(0)=1. Then we convert (in an explicit way) the umbral generating function to an ordinary generating function by solving a system of linear equations and a polynomial equation. This conversion implies that the ordinary generating function is algebraic. We give several concrete examples, including an alternative way to solve the tennis ball problem.  相似文献

Previous work has been carried out on the use of double-sampling schemes for inference from categorical data subject to misclassification. The double-sampling schemes utilize a sample of n units classified by both a fallible and true device and another sample of n2 units classified only by a fallible device. In actual applications, one often hasavailable a third sample of n1 units, which is classified only by the true device. In this article we develop techniques of fitting log-linear models under various misclassification structures for a general triple-sampling scheme. The estimation is by maximum likelihood and the fitted models are hierarchical. The methodology is illustrated by applying it to data in traffic safety research from a study on the effectiveness of belts in reducing injuries.  相似文献

Generalized Bhaskar Rao designs with non-zero elements from an abelian group G are constructed. In particular this paper shows that the necessary conditions are sufficient for the existence of generalized Bhaskar Rao designs with k=3 for the following groups: ?G? is odd, G=Zr2, and G=Zr2×H where 3? ?H? and r?1. Suppose particles are randomly distributed in a certain medium, powder or liquid, which is conceptually divided into N cells. Let pi denote the probability that a particle falls in the ith cell and Yi denote the number of particles in the ith cell. Assume that the joint probability function of the Yi follows a multinomial distribution with cell probabilities pi respectively. Take n (≤N) cells at random without replacement and put each of the cells separately through a mixing mechanism of dilution and swirl. These n cells constitute the first stage samples and the number of particles in these cells are not observable. Now conceptually divide each of n cells into M subcells of equal size and let Xij denote the number of particles in the jth subcell of the ith cell selected in the first stage; i=1,2,…,N and j=1,2,…,M. Consequently assume that the conditional joint probability function of the Xij given Yi=yi follows a multinomial distribution with equal cell probabilities. Now take m (≤M) subcells at random from each of the cells selected in the first stage sample. Assume that the numbers of particles in M×N subcells are observable. The properties of the estimator of the particle density per sample unit are investigated under the modified two-stage cluster sampling method. A laboratory experiment for Xanthan Gum Products is analyzed in order to examine the appropriateness of the model assumed in this paper.  相似文献

Some recursive constructions are given for Bhaskar Rao designs. Using examples of these designs found by Shyam J. Singh, Rakesh Vyas and new ones given here we show the necessary conditions λ≡0 (mod 2), λυ(υ?1)≡0 (mod 24) are sufficient for the existence of Bhaskar Rao designs with one association class and block size 3. This result is used with a result of Street and Rodger to obtain regular partially balanced block designs with 2υ treatments, block size 3, λ1=0, group size 2 and υ groups.  相似文献
