In this paper, we discuss the problem of estimating reliability (R) of a component based on maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs). The reliability of a component is given byR=P[Y<X]. Here X is a random strength of a component subjected to a random stress(Y) and (X,Y) follow a bivariate pareto(BVP) distribution. We obtain an asymptotic normal(AN) distribution of MLE of the reliability(R).  相似文献

In this paper, we estimate the reliability of a system with k components. The system functions when at least s (1≤s≤k) components survive a common random stress. We assume that the strengths of these k components are subjected to a common stress which is independent of the strengths of these k components. If (X 1,X 2,…,X k ) are strengths of k components subjected to a common stress (Y), then the reliability of the system or system reliability is given byR=P[Y<X (k−s+1)] whereX (k−s+1) is (k−s+1)-th order statistic of (X 1,…,X k ). We estimate R when (X 1,…,X k ) follow an absolutely continuous multivariate exponential (ACMVE) distribution of Hanagal (1993) which is the submodel of Block (1975) and Y follows an independent exponential distribution. We also obtain the asymptotic normal (AN) distribution of the proposed estimator.  相似文献

Let (X, Y) be a bivariate random vector with joint distribution function FX, Y(x, y) = C(F(x), G(y)), where C is a copula and F and G are marginal distributions of X and Y, respectively. Suppose that (Xi, Yi), i = 1, 2, …, n is a random sample from (X, Y) but we are able to observe only the data consisting of those pairs (Xi, Yi) for which Xi ? Yi. We denote such pairs as (X*i, Yi*), i = 1, 2, …, ν, where ν is a random variable. The main problem of interest is to express the distribution function FX, Y(x, y) and marginal distributions F and G with the distribution function of observed random variables X* and Y*. It is shown that if X and Y are exchangeable with marginal distribution function F, then F can be uniquely determined by the distributions of X* and Y*. It is also shown that if X and Y are independent and absolutely continuous, then F and G can be expressed through the distribution functions of X* and Y* and the stress–strength reliability P{X ? Y}. This allows also to estimate P{X ? Y} with the truncated observations (X*i, Yi*). The copula of bivariate random vector (X*, Y*) is also derived.  相似文献

This paper deals with the estimation of reliability R = P(Y < X) when X is a random strength of a component subjected to a random stress Y, and (X, Y) follows a bivariate Rayleigh distribution. The maximum likelihood estimator of R and its asymptotic distribution are obtained. An asymptotic confidence interval of R is constructed using the asymptotic distribution. Also, two confidence intervals are proposed based on Bootstrap method and a computational approach. Testing of the reliability based on asymptotic distribution of R is discussed. Simulation study to investigate performance of the confidence intervals and tests has been carried out. Also, a numerical example is given to illustrate the proposed approaches.  相似文献

In this paper, we are interested in the estimation of the reliability parameter R = P(X > Y) where X, a component strength, and Y, a component stress, are independent power Lindley random variables. The point and interval estimation of R, based on maximum likelihood, nonparametric and parametric bootstrap methods, are developed. The performance of the point estimate and confidence interval of R under the considered estimation methods is studied through extensive simulation. A numerical example, based on a real data, is presented to illustrate the proposed procedure.  相似文献

The structural-inference approach to predictive distributions is used to derive the estimator of P = Pr{Yp > max(Y1, …, Yp-1)} when the independent random variables Y1, …, Yp follow exponential distributions with unequal location parameters and equal scale parameters. The result is Equation (4.6).  相似文献

We consider a life testing experiment in whichn units are put on test, successive lifetimes (X 1,X 2) of both componentsC 1 andC 2 are recorded and the observation is terminated either at ther-th order statistic ofY i =Min(X 1i ,X 2i ),i=1,…,n i.e.Y (r) or a random timeT i whichever is reached first. This mixture of random censoring and type-II censoring schemes, we call as hybrid random censoring which is of wide use. We use this censoring scheme and obtain maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters and develop large sample tests in bivariate exponential (BVE) models proposed by Marshall-Olkin (1967), Block-Basu (1974), Freund (1961) and Preschan-Sullo (1974).  相似文献

Surles and Padgett [Inference for reliability and stress–strength for a scaled Burr type X distribution. Lifetime Data Anal. 2001;7:187–200] introduced a two-parameter Burr-type X distribution, which can be described as a generalized Rayleigh distribution. In this paper, we consider the estimation of the stress–strength parameter R=P[Y<X], when X and Y are both three-parameter generalized Rayleigh distributions with the same scale and locations parameters but different shape parameters. It is assumed that they are independently distributed. It is observed that the maximum-likelihood estimators (MLEs) do not exist, and we propose a modified MLE of R. We obtain the asymptotic distribution of the modified MLE of R, and it can be used to construct the asymptotic confidence interval of R. We also propose the Bayes estimate of R and the construction of the associated credible interval based on importance sampling technique. Analysis of two real data sets, (i) simulated and (ii) real, have been performed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In this paper, by assuming that (X, Y 1, Y 2)T has a trivariate elliptical distribution, we derive the exact joint distribution of X and a linear combination of order statistics from (Y 1, Y 2)T and show that it is a mixture of unified bivariate skew-elliptical distributions. We then derive the corresponding marginal and conditional distributions for the special case of t kernel. We also present these results for an exchangeable case with t kernel and illustrate the established results with an air-pollution data.  相似文献

Suppose (X, Y) has a Downton's bivariate exponential distribution with correlation ρ. For a random sample of size n from (X, Y), let X r:n be the rth X-order statistic and Y [r:n] be its concomitant. We investigate estimators of ρ when all the parameters are unknown and the available data is an incomplete bivariate sample made up of (i) all the Y-values and the ranks of associated X-values, i.e. (i, Y [i:n]), 1≤in, and (ii) a Type II right-censored bivariate sample consisting of (X i:n , Y [i:n]), 1≤ir<n. In both setups, we use simulation to examine the bias and mean square errors of several estimators of ρ and obtain their estimated relative efficiencies. The preferred estimator under (i) is a function of the sample correlation of (Y i:n , Y [i:n]) values, and under (ii), a method of moments estimator involving the regression function is preferred.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The problem of estimation of R = P(Y < X) have been used in the paper. Let X has exponential distribution mixing with exponential distribution with parameters β and θ and Y independently of X has exponential distribution with parameter λ. By using a prior guess or estimate R0, different shrinkage estimators of R are derived. Then the performance of the estimators are discussed. Finally, we compare these results with Baklizei and Dayyeh (2003) approaches.  相似文献

Let X 1, X 2,… be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables, and let Y n , n = K, K + 1, K + 2,… be the corresponding backward moving average of order K. At epoch n ≥ K, the process Y n will be off target by the input X n if it exceeds a threshold. By introducing a two-state Markov chain, we define a level of significance (1 ? a)% to be the percentage of times that the moving average process stays on target. We establish a technique to evaluate, or estimate, a threshold, to guarantee that {Y n } will stay (1 ? a)% of times on target, for a given (1 ? a)%. It is proved that if the distribution of the inputs is exponential or normal, then the threshold will be a linear function in the mean of the distribution of inputs μ X . The slope and intercept of the line, in each case, are specified. It is also observed that for the gamma inputs, the threshold is merely linear in the reciprocal of the scale parameter. These linear relationships can be easily applied to estimate the desired thresholds by samples from the inputs.  相似文献

When two‐component parallel systems are tested, the data consist of Type‐II censored data X(i), i= 1, n, from one component, and their concomitants Y [i] randomly censored at X(r), the stopping time of the experiment. Marshall & Olkin's (1967) bivariate exponential distribution is used to illustrate statistical inference procedures developed for this data type. Although this data type is motivated practically, the likelihood is complicated, and maximum likelihood estimation is difficult, especially in the case where the parameter space is a non‐open set. An iterative algorithm is proposed for finding maximum likelihood estimates. This article derives several properties of the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) including existence, uniqueness, strong consistency and asymptotic distribution. It also develops an alternative estimation method with closed‐form expressions based on marginal distributions, and derives its asymptotic properties. Compared with variances of the MLEs in the finite and large sample situations, the alternative estimator performs very well, especially when the correlation between X and Y is small.  相似文献

Some examples of steep, reproductive exponential models are considered. These models are shown to possess a τ-parallel foliation in the terminology of Barndorff-Nielsen and Blaesild. The independence of certain functions follows directly from the foliation. Suppose X(t) is a Wiener process with drift where X(t) = W(t) + ct, 0 < t < T. Furthermore let Y = max [X(s), 0 < s < T]. The joint density of Y and X = X(T), the end value, is studied within the framework of an exponential model, and it is shown that Y(Y – X) is independent of X. It is further shown that Y(Y – X) suitably scaled has an exponential distribution. Further examples are considered by randomizing on T.  相似文献

Suppose we have n observations from X = Y + Z, where Z is a noise component with known distribution, and Y has an unknown density f. When the characteristic function of Z is nonzero almost everywhere, we show that it is possible to construct a density estimate fn such that for all f, Iimn| |=0.  相似文献

Let X1,., Xn, be i.i.d. random variables with distribution function F, and let Y1,.,.,Yn be i.i.d. with distribution function G. For i = 1, 2,.,., n set δi, = 1 if Xi ≤ Yi, and 0 otherwise, and Xi, = min{Xi, Ki}. A kernel-type density estimate of f, the density function of F w.r.t. Lebesgue measure on the Borel o-field, based on the censored data (δi, Xi), i = 1,.,.,n, is considered. Weak and strong uniform consistency properties over the whole real line are studied. Rates of convergence results are established under higher-order differentiability assumption on f. A procedure for relaxing such assumptions is also proposed.  相似文献

This paper deals with the estimation of the stress–strength parameter R=P(Y<X), when X and Y are independent exponential random variables, and the data obtained from both distributions are progressively type-II censored. The uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator and the maximum-likelihood estimator (MLE) are obtained for the stress–strength parameter. Based on the exact distribution of the MLE of R, an exact confidence interval of R has been obtained. Bayes estimate of R and the associated credible interval are also obtained under the assumption of independent inverse gamma priors. An extensive computer simulation is used to compare the performances of the proposed estimators. One data analysis has been performed for illustrative purpose.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In a model of the form Y = h(X1, …, Xd) where the goal is to estimate a parameter of the probability distribution of Y, we define new sensitivity indices which quantify the importance of each variable Xi with respect to this parameter of interest. The aim of this paper is to define goal oriented sensitivity indices and we will show that Sobol indices are sensitivity indices associated to a particular characteristic of the distribution Y. We name the framework we present as Goal Oriented Sensitivity Analysis (GOSA).  相似文献
