Professor Zhai Zhenwu, born in February 1954, is now a member of the National Population and Family Planning Committee of Experts and Director of the Demography Institute under the Key Research Institutes of Humanities and Social Science of the Ministry of Education. Besides, as a doctoral supervisor and one of the academic leaders in China＇s population studies, he now serves as the Dean of the School of Sociology and Population Studies and the Director of the Population and Development Research Center in Renmin University of China. Moreover, he is also the Chairman of Beijing Population Society and Executive Vice Chairman of China Population Society. Right now, he is devoted to demography and the study of population, resources and environmental economics.

An Empirical Study on the Laddering Migration of China’s Floating Population

Using data collected by Center for Population and Development Studies of Renmin University of China in 2009 in Chaoyang district of Beijing, Dongguan city of Guangdong province and Zhuji city of Zhejiang province, this paper does an empirical study on the laddering migration of China’s floating population. The findings indicate that floating population’s geographical laddering migration, occupational laddering migration and family laddering migration exist in the process of migration. Geographical laddering migration is influenced by demographic characteristics, migration experience and pathfinder effect of parents. Occupational laddering migration is influenced by migration experience, stability of occupation and social interaction with local residents in destination. Family laddering migration is influenced by family member’s characteristics, area of arable land, migration experience and the number of relatives in destination.

The Large Population in China: A Major Obstacle to Modernization?

"A large population" has long been the most prominent national condition of China. Whilepopulation research has been of 20 years in China, the relationship between population andmodernization attracts not much attention, and in the practical life, population issues are typically regarded as issues of population quantity which in turn are oversimplified as fertility issues. Main Findings from Survey on Knowledge of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Puberty of High School Students in Rural China

Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Published the First Report on Development of Ageing Undertaking in China

Report on Development of Ageing Undertaking in China (2013), produced by China Research Center on Aging and published by Social Sciences Academic Press, was released on February 26 in Beijing. It is the first blue book on development of ageing undertaking in China. The blue book points out that in 2053 the number of aging population in China will reach the peak value of 487 million, a sevenfold increase compared with that in 2010     

The Impact of Family Floating on the Employment Status of Floating Population and Their Family Members

Using the survey data collected by Center for Population and Development of Renmin University of China in 2009 at Chaoyang district of Beijing, Dongguan city of Guangdong province and Zhuji city of Zhejiang province, this paper analyzes the impact of family floating on employment status of floating population and their family members. This paper finds that family floating not only affects men but also women, and family floating has a greater impact on women. The likelyhood of employment and work time of men are affected by family floating, so do the likelyhood of employment and income of women.     

Guangzhou population has exceeded 14 million and the ＂Three Policies＂ will be passed to regulate population size

S hi Xiaobo, male, was born in Bole City of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in December 1976. He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts in Shihezi University in Xinjiang. He studied in the material art class of Oil Painting Department in ） China Central Academy of Fine Arts from September 2011 to July 2012. He studied in the Lei Bo Studio in Beijing Fine ArtAcademy from August 2012 to present. He is currently working as a full-time painter in Xinjiang Bozhou Fine Art Academy, member of Xinjiang Artists Association, and council member of Xinjiang Oil Painting Society.
