The authors of this article argue that too many companies are not getting the benefits which should be produced by their long-range planning systems. Of the many possible explanations for this, the authors concentrate on the major pitfalls which should be avoided in order to ensure good results. Myers An Expression of Concern is hereby issued in relation to the above article, published online on 8 April 2012 in Wiley Online Library ( wileyonlinelibrary.com ), and in Volume 43, pp. 273–302, by agreement between the authors, the journal Editor in Chief, Cheri Speier‐Pero, the Decision Sciences Institute and Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The substance of the concern is that the fit statistics reported in the article may contain many errors. The journal has investigated the matter with the help of a committee of methodology experts in statistical technique. The committee has come to the conclusion that there may indeed be something wrong with the statistics provided in the article. However, it is difficult to ascertain the implications of these errors unless the raw data is made available. Unfortunately, the authors were not able to provide the raw data despite repeated requests. We feel it is important for our readership to be aware of potential issues with the results reported in this article. We would like to reiterate that authors should be able to provide raw data when requested by journals and editors. Providing access to data when requested is good scientific practice, and is encouraged by this journal.  相似文献

Why is strategic positioning so important to health care organizations struggling in a managed care environment and what are the sources of value? In Part 1 of this article, entitled "The Sources of Value under Managed Care," the authors presented four sources of value relative to the evolution of the market from fee-for-service to managed care. These value sources are: (1) assets, (2) price/performance, (3) distribution, and, ultimately, (4) capabilities and brand equity. In this article, the authors further elaborate on the sources of value as the market moves beyond the historical fee-for-service position to a managed care marketplace. In this article, the authors review the growing body of literature on organizational improvisation in order to present an encompassing and systematic perspective on this concept. An integrative definition of its construct is presented together with a new way of measuring this phenomenon in organizational settings. The article further explores this construct by presenting its triggers, necessary conditions, influencing factors and major outcomes. 本文利用2004年的上市公司资料和国际通用的超额价值分析方法,不仅验证了我国上市多元化公司存在折价现象,平均折价程度达到4.8%,而且,从控股股东超额控制和董事会构成两个方面考察了控股股东攫取行为对公司多元化折价的影响.我们发现,公司多元化程度与控股股东的超额控制程度、来自控股股东的董监事比例、集团所属和两职合一呈显著正相关关系.  相似文献

In this article, the authors explain United Technologies Corporation (UTC) efforts to develop and design a natural resource conservation program; establish a worldwide baseline inventory of energy consumption; develop corporation-wide conservation goals; and develop and implement systems and procedures to collect and analyze relevant data and measure performance.Since there are no federal regulatory programs requiring energy conservation or greenhouse gas emissions reporting, UTC has the flexibility and the time to develop a model program appropriate to its own organizational needs. Physician executives face low to mid-level intensity conflicts, day-to-day issues and problems associated with pressures and changes in the health care environment. Such conflicts can be sorted on the basis of relationship, duration, and intensity. The authors apply the five major modes of conflict management--competition, avoidance, compromise, accommodation, and collaboration--to specific scenarios taken from their work in health care and suggest guidelines for managing conflicts with peers, supervisees, and authority figures. Thorough preparation and a portfolio of skills build flexibility through the conflict management process.
