Stein's method is used to prove the Lindeberg-Feller theorem and a generalization of the Berry-Esséen theorem. The arguments involve only manipulation of probability inequalities, and form an attractive alternative to the less direct Fourier-analytic methods which are traditionally employed. 相似文献

ABSTRACT This paper is concerned with the technique of numerically evaluating the cumulative distribution function of a quadratic form in normal variables. The efficiency of two new truncation bounds and all existing truncation bounds are investigated. We also find that the suggestion in the literature for further splitting truncation errors might reduce computational efficiency, and the optimum splitting rate could be different in different situations. A practical solution is provided. The paper also discusses a modified secant algorithm for finding the critical value of the distribution at any given significance level. 相似文献

Probabilistic arguments are used to establish an identity useful for deriving the moments of the sample variances and covariance of a bivariate normal population. Some variances and covariances are derived to illustrate the use of the identity. 相似文献

The condition of the strong law of large numbers is obtained for sequences of random elements in type p Banach spaces that are blockwise orthogonal. The current work extends a result of Chobanyan & Mandrekar (2000) [On Kolmogorov SLLN under rearrangements for orthogonal random variables in a B ‐space. J. Theoret. Probab. 13, 135–139.] Special cases of the main results are presented as corollaries, and illustrative examples are provided. 相似文献

This paper constructs a consistent model specification test based on the difference between the nonparametric kernel sum of squares of residuals and the sum of squares of residuals from a parametric null model. We establish the asymptotic normality of the proposed test statistic under the null hypothesis of correct parametric specification and show that the wild bootstrap method can be used to approximate the null distribution of the test statistic. Results from a small simulation study are reported to examine the finite sample performance of the proposed tests. 相似文献
