This paper is an effort to obtain Bayes estimators of Rayleigh parameter and its associated risk based on a conjugate prior (square root inverted gamma prior) with respect to both symmetric loss function (squared error loss), and asymmetric loss function (precautionary loss function). We also derive the highest posterior density (HPD) interval for the Rayleigh parameter as well as the HPD prediction intervals for a future observation from this distribution. An illustrative example to test how the Rayleigh distribution fits a real data set is presented. Finally, Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare the performances of the Bayes estimates under different conditions.  相似文献

In this paper we define a class of biased linear estimators for the unknown parameters in linear models with arbitrary rank. The feature of our approach is to reduce the estimation problem in arbitrary rank models to the one in full-rank models. Some important properties are discussed. As special cases of our class, we extend to deficient-rank models six known biased linear estimators.  相似文献

Some relations between the exponential, the Pareto and the Power function distributions and their order statistics are given. These relations are employed to obtain some characterization theorems of Pareto and Power distributions.  相似文献

The problem of choice of coordinates in Stein-type estimators, when simultaneously estimating normal means, is considered. The question of deciding whether to use all coordinates in one combined shrinkage estimators or to separate into groups and use separate shrinkage estimators on each group is considered in the situation in which part of the prior information may be " misspecified". It is observed that the amount of misspecification determines whether to use the combined shrinkage estimator the separate shrinkage estimator.  相似文献

The problem of combining coordinates in Stein-type estimators, when simultaneously estimating normal means, is considered. The question of deciding whether to use all coordinates in one combined shrinkage estimator or to separate into groups and use separate shrinkage estimators on each group is considered. A Bayesian viewpoint is (of necessity) taken, and it is shown that the ‘combined’ estimator is, somewhat surprisingly, often superior.  相似文献

Nonparametric Bayes and empirical Bayes estimations of the

survival function of a unit of age t (> 0) using Dirichlet

process prior are presented. The proposed empirical Bayes

estimators are found to be “asymptotically optimal” in the sense of Robbins (1955). The performances of the proposed

empirical Bayes estimators are compared with those of certain

rival estimators in terms of relative savings loss, The exact

expressions for Bayes risks are also provided in certain cases.  相似文献

This study looks at the minimaxity of the maximum likelihood estimator (m.1.e), of the mean of a p-normal population, that has been given by Dahel, Giri and Lepage (1985). This estimator is computed on the basis of three independent samples: the first one is drawn from the whole vector of dimension p and the two others are based on the first p1 and the last p2 components respectively, such as p1 +p2=p.  相似文献

In this article, the Bayes linear minimum risk estimator (BLMRE) of parameters is derived in linear model. The superiorities of the BLMRE over ordinary least square estimator (LSE) is studied in terms of the mean square error matrix (MSEM) criterion and Pitman closeness (PC) criterion.  相似文献

Two variance components model for which each invariant quadratic admissible estimator of a linear function of variance components (under quadratic loss function) is a linear combination of two quadratic forms,Z 1,Z 2, say, is considered. A setD={(d 1,d 2):d 1 Z 1+d 2 Z 2 is admissible} is described by giving formulae on the boundary ofD. Different forms of the setD are presented on figures.  相似文献

The admissibility results of Rao (1976), proved in the context of a nonsingular covariance matrix, are exteneded to the situation where the covariance matrix is singular. Admi.s s Lb Le linear estimators in the Gauss-Markoff model are characterized and admis-sibility of the best linear unbiased estimator is investigated.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article addresses the problem of parameter estimation of the logistic regression model under subspace information via linear shrinkage, pretest, and shrinkage pretest estimators along with the traditional unrestricted maximum likelihood estimator and restricted estimator. We developed an asymptotic theory for the linear shrinkage and pretest estimators and compared their relative performance using the notion of asymptotic distributional bias and asymptotic quadratic risk. The analytical results demonstrated that the proposed estimation strategies outperformed the classical estimation strategies in a meaningful parameter space. Detailed Monte-Carlo simulation studies were conducted for different combinations and the performance of each estimation method was evaluated in terms of simulated relative efficiency. The results of the simulation study were in strong agreement with the asymptotic analytical findings. Two real-data examples are also given to appraise the performance of the estimators.  相似文献

This paper deals with the estimation of the stress–strength parameter R=P(Y<X), when X and Y are independent exponential random variables, and the data obtained from both distributions are progressively type-II censored. The uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator and the maximum-likelihood estimator (MLE) are obtained for the stress–strength parameter. Based on the exact distribution of the MLE of R, an exact confidence interval of R has been obtained. Bayes estimate of R and the associated credible interval are also obtained under the assumption of independent inverse gamma priors. An extensive computer simulation is used to compare the performances of the proposed estimators. One data analysis has been performed for illustrative purpose.  相似文献

In most cases, we use a symmetric loss such as the quadratic loss in a usual estimation problem. But, in the non-regular case when the regularity conditions do not necessarily hold, it seems to be more reasonable to choose an asymmetric loss than the symmetric one. In this paper, we consider the Bayes estimation under the linear exponential (LINEX) loss which is regarded as a typical example of asymmetric loss. We also compare the Bayes risks of estimators under the LINEX loss for a family of truncated distributions and a location parameter family of truncated distributions.  相似文献

In many estimation problems the parameter of interest is known,a priori, to belong to a proper subspace of the natural parameter space. Although useful in practice this type of additional information can lead to surprising theoretical difficulties. In this paper the problem of minimax estimation of a Bernoulli pwhen pis restricted to a symmetric subinterval of the natural parameter space is considered. For the sample sizes n = 1,2,3, and 4 least favorable priors with finite support are provided and the corresponding Bayes estimators are shown to be minimax. For n = 5 and 6 the usual constant risk minimax estimator is shown to be the Bayes minimax estimator corresponding to a least favorable prior with finite support, provided the restriction on the parameter space is not too tight.  相似文献

In this paper, the Bayes estimators for the parameter, the reliability function, and failure rate function of the Rayleigh distribution are obtained when based on complete or type II censored samples. Some types of the linex loss function are used. Comparieons in terms of risks of those under linex loss and squared error loss function with Bayes estimators relative to squared error loss function are made, Numerical example and simulation example are included.  相似文献

We propose a novel approach to estimation, where a set of estimators of a parameter is combined into a weighted average to produce the final estimator. The weights are chosen to be proportional to the likelihood evaluated at the estimators. We investigate the method for a set of estimators obtained by using the maximum likelihood principle applied to each individual observation. The method can be viewed as a Bayesian approach with a data-driven prior distribution. We provide several examples illustrating the new method and argue for its consistency, asymptotic normality, and efficiency. We also conduct simulation studies to assess the performance of the estimators. This straightforward methodology produces consistent estimators comparable with those obtained by the maximum likelihood method. The method also approximates the distribution of the estimator through the “posterior” distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, the Bayes linear unbiased estimator (Bayes LUE) is derived under the balanced loss function. Moreover, the superiority of Bayes LUE over ordinary least square estimator is studied under the mean square error matrix criterion and Pitman closeness criterion. Furthermore, we compare Bayes LUE under the balanced loss function with Bayes LUE under the quadratic loss function.  相似文献

Consider n independent random variables Zi,…, Zn on R with common distribution function F, whose upper tail belongs to a parametric family F(t) = Fθ(t),t ≥ x0, where θ ∈ ? ? R d. A necessary and sufficient condition for the family Fθ, θ ∈ ?, is established such that the k-th largest order statistic Zn?k+1:n alone constitutes the central sequence yielding local asymptotic normality ( LAN ) of the loglikelihood ratio of the vector (Zn?i+1:n)1 i=kof the k largest order statistics. This is achieved for k = k(n)→n→∞∞ with k/n→n→∞ 0.

In the case of vectors of central order statistics ( Zr:n, Zr+1:n,…, Zs:n ), with r/n and s/n both converging to q ∈ ( 0,1 ), it turns out that under fairly general conditions any order statistic Zm:n with r ≤ m ≤s builds the central sequence in a pertaining LAN expansion. These results lead to asymptotically optimal tests and estimators of the underlying parameter, which depend on single order statistics only  相似文献

In this paper, we construct a Bayes shrinkage estimator for the Rayleigh scale parameter based on censored data under the squared log error loss function. Risk-unbiased estimator is derived and its risk is computed. A Bayes shrinkage estimator is obtained when a prior point guess value is available for the scale parameter. Risk-bias of the Bayes shrinkage estimator is considered. A comparison between the proposed Bayes shrinkage estimator and the risk-unbiased estimator is provided using calculation of the relative efficiency. A numerical example is presented for illustrative and comparative purposes.  相似文献
