Let X1,…, Xn be mutually independent non-negative integer-valued random variables with probability mass functions fi(x) > 0 for z= 0,1,…. Let E denote the event that {X1X2≥…≥Xn}. This note shows that, conditional on the event E, Xi-Xi+ 1 and Xi+ 1 are independent for all t = 1,…, k if and only if Xi (i= 1,…, k) are geometric random variables, where 1 ≤kn-1. The k geometric distributions can have different parameters θi, i= 1,…, k.  相似文献

Let Z 1, Z 2, . . . be a sequence of independent Bernoulli trials with constant success and failure probabilities p = Pr(Z t  = 1) and q = Pr(Z t  = 0) = 1 − p, respectively, t = 1, 2, . . . . For any given integer k ≥ 2 we consider the patterns E1{\mathcal{E}_{1}}: two successes are separated by at most k−2 failures, E2{\mathcal{E}_{2}}: two successes are separated by exactly k −2 failures, and E3{\mathcal{E}_{3}} : two successes are separated by at least k − 2 failures. Denote by Nn,k(i){ N_{n,k}^{(i)}} (respectively Mn,k(i){M_{n,k}^{(i)}}) the number of occurrences of the pattern Ei{\mathcal{E}_{i}} , i = 1, 2, 3, in Z 1, Z 2, . . . , Z n when the non-overlapping (respectively overlapping) counting scheme for runs and patterns is employed. Also, let Tr,k(i){T_{r,k}^{(i)}} (resp. Wr,k(i)){W_{r,k}^{(i)})} be the waiting time for the rth occurrence of the pattern Ei{\mathcal{E}_{i}}, i = 1, 2, 3, in Z 1, Z 2, . . . according to the non-overlapping (resp. overlapping) counting scheme. In this article we conduct a systematic study of Nn,k(i){N_{n,k}^{(i)}}, Mn,k(i){M_{n,k}^{(i)}}, Tr,k(i){T_{r,k}^{(i)}} and Wr,k(i){W_{r,k}^{(i)}} (i = 1, 2, 3) obtaining exact formulae, explicit or recursive, for their probability generating functions, probability mass functions and moments. An application is given.  相似文献

For a random walk {R n ≥0} given on a homogeneous irreducible finite MARKOV chain {X n ≥0} the identity (8) is obtained. Generalizations (14)-(16) of WALD's Fundamental Identity and WALD's first and second equations for the two-dimensional process {(R n ,X n ), n≥0} are proved. The Average Sample Number (21)-(22) and the Operating Characteristic Function (24)-(25) of a Sequential Probability Ratio Test follow. With this test a decision about two simple hypotheses on the unknown transition probability matrix of {X n , n≥0} and the unknown parameters of the probability distributions for the increments of {X n , n≥0} can be made. For a special case these results were proved by PHATARFOD [6] and KüCHLER [3] with other methods.  相似文献

{Xn, n≥1} are independent and identically distributed random variables with continuous distribution function F(x). For j=1,…,n, Xj is called a near-record up to time n if Xj ∈ (Mna, Mn], where Mn = max1≤j≤n {Xj} and a is a positive constant. Let Zn(a) denote the number of near-records after, and including the maximum observation of the sequence. In this paper, the distributional results of Zn(a) are considered and its asymptotic behaviours are studied.  相似文献

Let X 1, X 2,…, X n be independent exponential random variables with X i having failure rate λ i for i = 1,…, n. Denote by D i:n  = X i:n  ? X i?1:n the ith spacing of the order statistics X 1:n  ≤ X 2:n  ≤ ··· ≤ X n:n , i = 1,…, n, where X 0:n ≡ 0. It is shown that if λ n+1 ≤ [≥] λ k for k = 1,…, n then D n:n  ≤ lr D n+1:n+1 and D 1:n  ≤ lr D 2:n+1 [D 2:n+1 ≤ lr D 2:n ], and that if λ i  + λ j  ≥ λ k for all distinct i,j, and k then D n?1:n  ≤ lr D n:n and D n:n+1 ≤ lr D n:n , where ≤ lr denotes the likelihood ratio order. We also prove that D 1:n  ≤ lr D 2:n for n ≥ 2 and D 2:3 ≤ lr D 3:3 for all λ i 's.  相似文献

Let X(1)X(2)≤···≤X(n) be the order statistics from independent and identically distributed random variables {Xi, 1≤in} with a common absolutely continuous distribution function. In this work, first a new characterization of distributions based on order statistics is presented. Next, we review some conditional expectation properties of order statistics, which can be used to establish some equivalent forms for conditional expectations for sum of random variables based on order statistics. Using these equivalent forms, some known results can be extended immediately.  相似文献

Gnot et al. (J Statist Plann Inference 30(1):223–236, 1992) have presented the formulae for computing Bayes invariant quadratic estimators of variance components in normal mixed linear models of the form where the matrices V i , 1 ≤ ik − 1, are symmetric and nonnegative definite and V k is an identity matrix. These formulae involve a basis of a quadratic subspace containing MV 1 M,...,MV k-1 M,M, where M is an orthogonal projector on the null space of X′. In the paper we discuss methods of construction of such a basis. We survey Malley’s algorithms for finding the smallest quadratic subspace including a given set of symmetric matrices of the same order and propose some modifications of these algorithms. We also consider a class of matrices sharing some of the symmetries common to MV 1 M,...,MV k-1 M,M. We show that the matrices from this class constitute a quadratic subspace and describe its explicit basis, which can be directly used for computing Bayes invariant quadratic estimators of variance components. This basis can be also used for improving the efficiency of Malley’s algorithms when applied to finding a basis of the smallest quadratic subspace containing the matrices MV 1 M,...,MV k-1 M,M. Finally, we present the results of a numerical experiment which confirm the potential usefulness of the proposed methods. Dedicated to the memory of Professor Stanisław Gnot.  相似文献

The structure of a stopping variable N based on one-sided CUSUM procedures is analyzed. Stopping occurs when a Markovian sequence of maxima of partial sums {M } crosses a certain boundary. On the basis of a recursive relationship between the Mn+1 and Mn a recursive equation is derived for the determination of the defective distributions Kn(x) = P{M ≤ x, N ≤n} . This recursive equation yields a recursive algorithm for the determination of P {N > n} . The paper studies the case when the basic random variables are non-negative integers-valued. In these cases the values of P{N > n} and E{N} can be determined by solving proper systems of linear equations.  相似文献

Consider the regression model Yi= g(xi) + ei, i = 1,…, n, where g is an unknown function defined on [0, 1], 0 = x0 < x1 < … < xn≤ 1 are chosen so that max1≤i≤n(xi-xi- 1) = 0(n-1), and where {ei} are i.i.d. with Ee1= 0 and Var e1 - s?2. In a previous paper, Cheng & Lin (1979) study three estimators of g, namely, g1n of Cheng & Lin (1979), g2n of Clark (1977), and g3n of Priestley & Chao (1972). Consistency results are established and rates of strong uniform convergence are obtained. In the current investigation the limiting distribution of &in, i = 1, 2, 3, and that of the isotonic estimator g**n are considered.  相似文献

Consider n independent random variables Zi,…, Zn on R with common distribution function F, whose upper tail belongs to a parametric family F(t) = Fθ(t),t ≥ x0, where θ ∈ ? ? R d. A necessary and sufficient condition for the family Fθ, θ ∈ ?, is established such that the k-th largest order statistic Zn?k+1:n alone constitutes the central sequence yielding local asymptotic normality ( LAN ) of the loglikelihood ratio of the vector (Zn?i+1:n)1 i=kof the k largest order statistics. This is achieved for k = k(n)→n→∞∞ with k/n→n→∞ 0.

In the case of vectors of central order statistics ( Zr:n, Zr+1:n,…, Zs:n ), with r/n and s/n both converging to q ∈ ( 0,1 ), it turns out that under fairly general conditions any order statistic Zm:n with r ≤ m ≤s builds the central sequence in a pertaining LAN expansion. These results lead to asymptotically optimal tests and estimators of the underlying parameter, which depend on single order statistics only  相似文献

Let {X n:n ≥ 1} be an i.i.d. sequence of random variables with a continuous distribution function F. Under the assumption that the upper tail of Fis regularly varying with exponent 1/α, α > 0, we study the asymptotic properties of an estimator of α based on k-record values.  相似文献

We study the behavior of bivariate empirical copula process 𝔾 n (·, ·) on pavements [0, k n /n]2 of [0, 1]2, where k n is a sequence of positive constants fulfilling some conditions. We provide a upper bound for the strong approximation of 𝔾 n (·, ·) by a Gaussian process when k n /n↘γ as n → ∞, where 0 ≤ γ ≤1.  相似文献

In this article, we investigate the precise large deviations for a sum of independent but not identical distributed random variables. {X n , n ≥ 1} are independent non-negative random variables with distribution functions {F n , n ≥ 1}. We assume that the average of right tails of distribution functions F n is equivalent to some distribution function F with consistently varying tails. In applications, we apply our main results to a realistic example (Pareto-type distribution) and obtain a specific result.  相似文献

Let X1:n ≤ X2:n ≤···≤ Xn:n denote the order statistics of a sample of n independent random variables X1, X2,…, Xn, all identically distributed as some X. It is shown that if X has a log-convex [log-concave] density function, then the general spacing vector (Xk1:n, Xk2:n ? Xk1:n,…, Xkr:n ? Xkr?1:n) is MTP2 [S-MRR2] whenever 1 ≤ k1 < k2 <···< kr ≤ n and 1 ≤ r ≤ n. Multivariate likelihood ratio ordering of such general spacing vectors corresponding to two random samples is also considered. These extend some of the results in the literature for usual spacing vectors.  相似文献

We present a decomposition of the correlation coefficient between xt and xt?k into three terms that include the partial and inverse autocorrelations. The first term accounts for the portion of the autocorrelation that is explained by the inner variables {xt?1 , xt?2 , …, x t? k+1}, the second one measures the portion explained by the outer variables {x t+1, x t+2, } ∪ {x t?k?1, x t?k?2,…} and the third term measures the correlation between x t and xt?k given all other variables. These terms, squared and summed, can form the basis of three portmanteau-type tests that are able to detect both deviation from white noise and lack of fit of an entertained model. Quantiles of their asymptotic sample distributions are complicated to derive at an adequate level of accuracy, so they are approximated using the Monte Carlo method. A simulation experiment is carried out to investigate significance levels and power of each test, and compare them to the portmanteau test.  相似文献

Let {X, Xn; n ≥ 1} be a sequence of real-valued iid random variables, 0 < r < 2 and p > 0. Let D = { A = (ank; 1 ≤ kn, n ≥ 1); ank, ? R and supn, k |an,k| < ∞}. Set Sn( A ) = ∑nk=1an, kXk for A ? D and n ≥ 1. This paper is devoted to determining conditions whereby E{supn ≥ 1, |Sn( A )|/n1/r}p < ∞ or E{supn ≥ 2 |Sn( A )|/2n log n)1/2}p < ∞ for every A ? D. This generalizes some earlier results, including those of Burkholder (1962), Choi and Sung (1987), Davis (1971), Gut (1979), Klass (1974), Siegmund (1969) and Teicher (1971).  相似文献

A sequence {Xn, n≥1} of independent and identically distributed random variables with absolutely continuous (with respect to Lebesque measure) cumulative distribution function F(x) is considered. Xj is a record value of this sequence if Xj>max(X1,…,Xj?1), j>1. Let {XL(n), n≥0} with L(o)=1 be the sequence of such record values and Zn,n?1=XL(n)–XL(n?1). Some properties of Zn,n?1 are studied and characterizations of the exponential distribution are discussed in terms of the expectation and the hazard rate of zn,n?1.  相似文献

In this paper, using the completeness properties of the sequence of functions {hn(x)=(?log x)n, 0<x<1, n≥1}, some characterization results are established. The results are based on the number of observations near the k-records. It is shown that the equality of the moment of the appropriate subsequence of the number of observations near to upper and lower k-records is a characteristic property of symmetric distributions. Since ordinary record values are contained in the k-records, the results hold for usual records as a particular case.  相似文献

Suppose that data {(x l,i,n , y l,i,n ): l?=?1, …, k; i?=?1, …, n} are observed from the regression models: Y l,i,n ?=?m l (x l,i,n )?+?? l,i,n , l?=?1, …, k, where the regression functions {m l } l=1 k are unknown and the random errors {? l,i,n } are dependent, following an MA(∞) structure. A new test is proposed for testing the hypothesis H 0: m 1?=?·?·?·?=?m k , without assuming that {m l } l=1 k are in a parametric family. The criterion of the test derives from a Crámer-von-Mises-type functional based on different distances between {[mcirc]} l and {[mcirc]} s , l?≠?s, l, s?=?1, …, k, where {[mcirc] l } l=1 k are nonparametric Gasser–Müller estimators of {m l } l=1 k . A generalization of the test to the case of unequal design points, with different sample sizes {n l } l=1 k and different design densities {f l } l=1 k , is also considered. The asymptotic normality of the test statistic is obtained under general conditions. Finally, a simulation study and an analysis with real data show a good behavior of the proposed test.  相似文献

Fix r ≥ 1, and let {Mnr} be the rth largest of {X1,X2,…Xn}, where X1,X2,… is a sequence of i.i.d. random variables with distribution function F. It is proved that P[Mnr ≤ un i.o.] = 0 or 1 according as the series Σn=3Fn(un)(log log n)r/n converges or diverges, for any real sequence {un} such that n{1 -F(un)} is nondecreasing and divergent. This generalizes a result of Bamdorff-Nielsen (1961) in the case r = 1.  相似文献
