A statistical application to Gene Set Enrichment Analysis implies calculating the distribution of the maximum of a certain Gaussian process, which is a modification of the standard Brownian bridge. Using the transformation into a boundary crossing problem for the Brownian motion and a piecewise linear boundary, it is proved that the desired distribution can be approximated by an n-dimensional Gaussian integral. Fast approximations are defined and validated by Monte Carlo simulation. The performance of the method for the genomics application is discussed.  相似文献

We define a new family of stochastic processes called Markov modulated Brownian motions with a sticky boundary at zero. Intuitively, each process is a regulated Markov-modulated Brownian motion whose boundary behavior is modified to slow down at level zero.

To determine the stationary distribution of a sticky MMBM, we follow a Markov-regenerative approach similar to the one developed with great success in the context of quasi-birth-and-death processes and fluid queues. Our analysis also relies on recent work showing that Markov-modulated Brownian motions arise as limits of a parametrized family of fluid queues.  相似文献

Stochastic curtailment has been considered for the interim monitoring of group sequential trials (Davis and Hardy, 1994). Statistical boundaries in Davis and Hardy (1994) were derived using theory of Brownian motion. In some clinical trials, the conditions of forming a Brownian motion may not be satisfied. In this paper, we extend the computations of Brownian motion based boundaries, expected stopping times, and type I and type II error rates to fractional Brownian motion (FBM). FBM includes Brownian motion as a special case. Designs under FBM are compared to those under Brownian motion and to those of O’Brien–Fleming type tests. One- and two-sided boundaries for efficacy and futility monitoring are also discussed. Results show that boundary values decrease and error rates deviate from design levels when the Hurst parameter increases from 0.1 to 0.9, these changes should be considered when designing a study under FBM.  相似文献

This article provides a solution of a generalized eigenvalue problem for integrated processes of order 2 in a nonparametric framework. Our analysis focuses on a pair of random matrices related to such integrated process. The matrices are constructed considering some weight functions. Under asymptotic conditions on such weights, convergence results in distribution are obtained and the generalized eigenvalue problem is solved. Differential equations and stochastic calculus theory are used.  相似文献

This paper investigates ruin probability and ruin time of a two-dimensional fractional Brownian motion risk process. The net loss process of an insurance company is modeled by a fractional Brownian motion. The two-dimensional fractional Brownian motion risk process models the surplus processes of an insurance and a reinsurance company, where the net loss is divided between them in some specified proportions. The ruin problem considered is that of the two-dimensional risk process first entering the negative quadrant, that is, the simultaneous ruin problem. We derive both asymptotics of the ruin probability and approximations of the scaled conditional ruin time as the initial capital tends to infinity.  相似文献

Summary This paper discussed the role of the drift in vector autoregressive processes allowing for integrated components up to order 2. It is shown how the drift can generate linear and quadratic deterministic trends. A two-stage statistical analysis of the system in the presence of quadratic trends is proposed. The analysis of the system allows to define a consistent sequence of tests on the numbers of common components integrated of a given order, called the integration indices of the system. The relevant asymptotic distributions are non-standard, belong to the Limiting Gaussian Functional family and are tabulated by simulation. The proposed procedure can also be consistently combined with other procedures proposed by the author for the cases of a linear trend and of no deterministic trends in the system. This paper discusses the problem of fitting a parametric model in Tobit mean regression models. The proposed test is based on the supremum of the Khamaladze-type transformation of a partial sum process of calibrated residuals. The asymptotic null distribution of this transformed process is shown to be the same as that of a time-transformed standard Brownian motion. Consistency of this sequence of tests against some fixed alternatives and asymptotic power under some local nonparametric alternatives are also discussed. Simulation studies are conducted to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed test. The power comparison with some existing tests shows some superiority of the proposed test at the chosen alternatives.  相似文献

In partial step-stress accelerated life testing, models extrapolating data obtained under more severe conditions to infer the lifetime distribution under normal use conditions are needed. Bhattacharyya (Invited paper for 46th session of the ISI, 1987) proposed a tampered Brownian motion process model and later derived the probability distribution from a decay process perspective without linear assumption. In this paper, the model is described and the features of the failure time distribution are discussed. The maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters in the model and their asymptotic properties are presented. An application of models for step-stress accelerated life test to fields other than engineering is described and illustrated by applying the tampered Brownian motion process model to data taken from a clinical trial.  相似文献

Prediction of recruitment in clinical trials has been a challenging task. Many methods have been studied, including models based on Poisson process and its large sample approximation by Brownian motion (BM); however, when the independent incremental structure is violated for BM model, we could use fractional Brownian motion to model and approximate the underlying Poisson processes with random rates. In this paper, fractional Brownian motion (FBM) is considered for such conditions and compared to BM model with illustrated examples from different trials and simulations.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article we examine the functional central limit theorem for the first passage time of reward processes defined over a finite state space semi-Markov process. In order to apply this process for a wider range of real-world applications, the reward functions, considered in this work, are assumed to have general forms instead of the constant rates reported in the other studies. We benefit from the martingale theory and Poisson equations to prove and establish the convergence of the first passage time of reward processes to a zero mean Brownian motion. Necessary conditions to derive the results presented in this article are the existence of variances for sojourn times in each state and second order integrability of reward functions with respect to the distribution of sojourn times. We finally verify the presented methodology through a numerical illustration.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of testing for a parameter change in Poisson autoregressive models. We suggest two types of cumulative sum (CUSUM) tests, namely, those based on estimates and residuals. We first demonstrate that the conditional maximum likelihood estimator (CMLE) is strongly consistent and asymptotically normal and then construct the CMLE‐based CUSUM test. It is shown that under regularity conditions, its limiting null distribution is a function of independent Brownian bridges. Next, we construct the residual‐based CUSUM test and derive its limiting null distribution. Simulation results are provided for illustration. A real‐data analysis is performed on data for polio incidence and campylobacteriosis infections.  相似文献

Repeated confidence interval (RCI) is an important tool for design and monitoring of group sequential trials according to which we do not need to stop the trial with planned statistical stopping rules. In this article, we derive RCIs when data from each stage of the trial are not independent thus it is no longer a Brownian motion (BM) process. Under this assumption, a larger class of stochastic processes fractional Brownian motion (FBM) is considered. Comparisons of RCI width and sample size requirement are made to those under Brownian motion for different analysis times, Type I error rates and number of interim analysis. Power family spending functions including Pocock, O'Brien-Fleming design types are considered for these simulations. Interim data from BHAT and oncology trials is used to illustrate how to derive RCIs under FBM for efficacy and futility monitoring.  相似文献

Group sequential tests have been effective tools in monitoring long term clinical trials. There have been several popular discrete sequential boundaries proposed for modeling interim analysis of clinical trials under the assumption of Brownian motion for the stochastic processes generated from test statistics. In this paper, we study the five sequential boundaries in Lan and DeMets (Biometrika 70:659–663, 1983) under the fractional Brownian motion. The fractional Brownian includes the classic Brownian motion as a special case. An example from a real data set is used to illustrate the applications of the boundaries.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present analytic methods for determining the asymptotic behaviour of the coefficents of power series that can be applied to homogeneous discrete quasi death and birth processes. It turns that there are in principle only three types for the asymptotic behaviour. The process either converges to the stationary distribution or it can be approximated in terms of a reflected Brownian motion or by a Brownian motion. In terms of Markov chains these cases correspond to positive recurrence, to null recurrence, and to non recurrence. The same results hold for the continuous case, too.  相似文献

In this study, we consider an entropy-type goodness-of-fit (GOF) test based on integrated distribution functions. We first construct the test for the simple vs. simple hypothesis and then extend it to the composite hypothesis case. It is shown that under regularity conditions, the null limiting distribution of the proposed test is a function of a Brownian bridge. A bootstrap method is also considered and is shown to be weakly consistent. A simulation study and real data analysis are conducted for illustration.  相似文献

The iterative simulation of the Brownian bridge is well known. In this article, we present a vectorial simulation alternative based on Gaussian processes for machine learning regression that is suitable for interpreted programming languages implementations. We extend the vectorial simulation of path-dependent trajectories to other Gaussian processes, namely, sequences of Brownian bridges, geometric Brownian motion, fractional Brownian motion, and Ornstein–Ulenbeck mean reversion process.  相似文献

Abstract.  Many time series in applied sciences obey a time-varying spectral structure. In this article, we focus on locally stationary processes and develop tests of the hypothesis that the time-varying spectral density has a semiparametric structure, including the interesting case of a time-varying autoregressive moving-average (tvARMA) model. The test introduced is based on a L 2 -distance measure of a kernel smoothed version of the local periodogram rescaled by the time-varying spectral density of the estimated semiparametric model. The asymptotic distribution of the test statistic under the null hypothesis is derived. As an interesting special case, we focus on the problem of testing for the presence of a tvAR model. A semiparametric bootstrap procedure to approximate more accurately the distribution of the test statistic under the null hypothesis is proposed. Some simulations illustrate the behaviour of our testing methodology in finite sample situations.  相似文献

This paper provides some new results on the asymptotics of goodness-of-fit (GOF) tests based on minimum p-value statistics. In connection with detectability of sparse signals in high-dimensional data, various tests were proposed and investigated during the last decade, especially with respect to asymptotic properties. Minimum p-value GOF statistics were already investigated as minimum level attained statistics by Berk and Jones with respect to Bahadur efficiency. The distribution of minimum p-value GOF statistics is closely related to the distribution of higher criticism statistics, the distribution of the supremum of a normalized Brownian bridge, and the supremum of an Ornstein–Uhlenbeck process.  相似文献

Abstract

We consider a degradation model which is the sum of two independent processes: an homogeneous gamma process and a Brownian motion. This model is called perturbed gamma process. Based on independent copies of the perturbed gamma process observed at irregular instants we propose to estimate the unknown parameters of the model using the moment method. Some general conditions allow to derive the asymptotic behavior of the estimators. We also show that these general conditions are fulfilled for some specific observation schemes. Finally, we illustrate our method by a numerical study and an application to a real data set.  相似文献
