Process capability indices have been widely used in the manufacturing industry providing numerical measures on process performance. The index Cp provides measures on process precision (or product consistency). The index Cpm, sometimes called the Taguchi index, meditates on process centring ability and process loss. Most research work related to Cp and Cpm assumes no gauge measurement errors. This assumption insufficiently reflects real situations even with highly advanced measuring instruments. Conclusions drawn from process capability analysis are therefore unreliable and misleading. In this paper, we conduct sensitivity investigation on process capability Cp and Cpm in the presence of gauge measurement errors. Due to the randomness of variations in the data, we consider capability testing for Cp and Cpm to obtain lower confidence bounds and critical values for true process capability when gauge measurement errors are unavoidable. The results show that the estimator with sample data contaminated by the measurement errors severely underestimates the true capability, resulting in imperceptible smaller test power. To obtain the true process capability, adjusted confidence bounds and critical values are presented to practitioners for their factory applications.  相似文献

We consider two consistent estimators for the parameters of the linear predictor in the Poisson regression model, where the covariate is measured with errors. The measurement errors are assumed to be normally distributed with known error variance σ u 2 . The SQS estimator, based on a conditional mean-variance model, takes the distribution of the latent covariate into account, and this is here assumed to be a normal distribution. The CS estimator, based on a corrected score function, does not use the distribution of the latent covariate. Nevertheless, for small σ u 2 , both estimators have identical asymptotic covariance matrices up to the order of σ u 2 . We also compare the consistent estimators to the naive estimator, which is based on replacing the latent covariate with its (erroneously) measured counterpart. The naive estimator is biased, but has a smaller covariance matrix than the consistent estimators (at least up to the order of σ u 2 ).  相似文献

The properties of the estimators of population mean arising from the ratio and product methods of estimation in the context of sample surveys have been analyzed in this paper when the observations on both the study and auxiliary variables are contaminated with measurement errors. The measurement errors in both the variables are also correlated. The properties of the ratio and product estimators along with the sample mean under the influence of measurement errors are derived and studied. The properties of the estimators in finite samples are studied through Monte-Carlo simulation and its findings are reported.  相似文献

In multistage processes, two kinds of process capability indices (specific and total process capability indices) are defined in each stage. The total process capability index calculates the capability of each stage when it is affected by the previous stages and the specific process capability index calculates the capability of the stage when the effects of the previous stages are eliminated. Process capability indices in multistage processes are proposed under the assumption of no measurement errors. However, sometimes this assumption may be violated and leads to misleading interpretations. In this paper, the effects of measurement errors on the specific and total process capability indices in the second and third stages of the three-stage processes are statistically analysed. In addition, the effects of the measurement errors on the bias and the mean square error value of the total and specific process capability indices in the second and third stages are studied. Finally, the effects of the measurement errors on the specific and total process capability indices are shown through a numerical example.  相似文献

In this paper, variables repetitive group sampling plans are developed based on the process capability index C pk when the quality characteristic follows a normal distribution with unknown mean and variance. The sampling plan parameters such as the sample size and the acceptance constant are determined to minimize the average sample number. Symmetric and asymmetric cases, in percent defectives due to two specification limits, are dealt with for specified combinations of acceptable quality level and limiting quality level. Tables are provided and examples are given to use proposed plans in practice.

ABSTRACT

In this study, the generalized confidence interval method is applied to evaluate the performances of processes with asymmetric tolerances taking into account the gauge measurement errors (GME). To examine the performance of the proposed method, a series of simulations is conducted. Moreover, a sensitivity study is carried out to analyze the effects of ignoring GME. The proposed method performs very well and can be recommended for assessing the performances of processes with asymmetric tolerances in the presence of GME.  相似文献

We consider statistical inference for partial linear additive models (PLAMs) when the linear covariates are measured with errors and distorted by unknown functions of commonly observable confounding variables. A semiparametric profile least squares estimation procedure is proposed to estimate unknown parameter under unrestricted and restricted conditions. Asymptotic properties for the estimators are established. To test a hypothesis on the parametric components, a test statistic based on the difference between the residual sums of squares under the null and alternative hypotheses is proposed, and we further show that its limiting distribution is a weighted sum of independent standard chi-squared distributions. A bootstrap procedure is further proposed to calculate critical values. Simulation studies are conducted to demonstrate the performance of the proposed procedure and a real example is analyzed for an illustration.  相似文献

Process capability indices are routinely used in manufacturing industries for process monitoring. A basic assumption while using process capability indices is that there are no assignable causes of variation present. However, when variation due to an assignable cause is present and is tolerated, the conventional methods of capability measurement become inaccurate. In this article, we suggest an estimate of Cpk assuming that the process capability changes dynamically. We obtain an exact form of the sampling distribution in the presence of a systematic assignable cause. We discuss the problem of testing whether a given process is capable. The critical values for different sample sizes are obtained based on the sampling distribution. An example involving tool wear problem is presented.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the impact of both missing data and measurement errors on a longitudinal analysis of participation in higher education in Australia. We develop a general method for handling both discrete and continuous measurement errors that also allows for the incorporation of missing values and random effects in both binary and continuous response multilevel models. Measurement errors are allowed to be mutually dependent and their distribution may depend on further covariates. We show that our methodology works via two simple simulation studies. We then consider the impact of our measurement error assumptions on the analysis of the real data set.  相似文献

Count data with excess zeros are widely encountered in the fields of biomedical, medical, public health and social survey, etc. Zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) regression models with mixed effects are useful tools for analyzing such data, in which covariates are usually incorporated in the model to explain inter-subject variation and normal distribution is assumed for both random effects and random errors. However, in many practical applications, such assumptions may be violated as the data often exhibit skewness and some covariates may be measured with measurement errors. In this paper, we deal with these issues simultaneously by developing a Bayesian joint hierarchical modeling approach. Specifically, by treating intercepts and slopes in logistic and Poisson regression as random, a flexible two-level ZIP regression model is proposed, where a covariate process with measurement errors is established and a skew-t-distribution is considered for both random errors and random effects. Under the Bayesian framework, model selection is carried out using deviance information criterion (DIC) and a goodness-of-fit statistics is also developed for assessing the plausibility of the posited model. The main advantage of our method is that it allows for more robustness and correctness for investigating heterogeneity from different levels, while accommodating the skewness and measurement errors simultaneously. An application to Shanghai Youth Fitness Survey is used as an illustrate example. Through this real example, it is showed that our approach is of interest and usefulness for applications.  相似文献

Process capability indices (PCIs) have been widely used in manufacturing industries to previde a quantitative measure of process potential and performance. While some efforts have been dedicated in the literature to the statistical properties of PCIs estimators, scarce attention has been given to the evaluation of these properties when sample data are affected by measurement errors. In this work we deal with the problem of measurement errors effects on the performance of PCIs. The analysis is illustrated with reference toC p , i.e. the simplest and most common measure suggested to evaluate process capability. ABSTRACT

Data spanning long time periods, such as that over 1860–2012 for the UK, seem likely to have substantial errors of measurement that may even be integrated of order one, but which are probably cointegrated for cognate variables. We analyze and simulate the impacts of such measurement errors on parameter estimates and tests in a bivariate cointegrated system with trends and location shifts which reflect the many major turbulent events that have occurred historically. When trends or shifts therein are large, cointegration analysis is not much affected by such measurement errors, leading to conventional stationary attenuation biases dependent on the measurement error variance, unlike the outcome when there are no offsetting shifts or trends.  相似文献

Suppose that a moving average time series Xt is not observed, but instead Yt = Xt + ?t is observed, where ?t, is measurement error. Estimation of the parameters of Xt has previously been considered under the assumption that Xt and ?t are uncorrelated. The case where Xt and ?t have known cross covariances is considered here, and a method is described for estimating the parameters of Xt. A simulation compares four estimators for a MA(1) series parameter in the presence of measurement error.  相似文献

In survey research, it is assumed that reported response by the individual is correct. However, given the issues of prestige bias, self-respect, respondent's reported data often produces estimated values which are highly deviated from the true values. This causes measurement error (ME) to be present in the sample estimates. In this article, the estimation of population mean in the presence of measurement error using information on a single auxiliary variable is studied. A generalized estimator of population mean is proposed. The class of estimators is obtained by using some conventional and non-conventional measures. Simulation and numerical study is also conducted to assess the performance of estimators in the presence and absence of measurement error.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a method to jointly incorporate measurement error and non response in the estimators of population mean using auxiliary information in simple random sampling. We have not only studied some available estimators but also suggested three new estimators in the presence of two types of non sampling errors occurring jointly: the measurement error and the non response. The expressions for the bias and mean square errors of proposed estimator have been derived. A comparative study is made among the proposed estimators, the Hansen and Hurwitz (1946 Hansen, M.H., Hurwitz, W.N. (1946). The problem of non-response in sample surveys. J. Am. Stat. Process capability indices have been widely used to evaluate the process performance to the continuous improvement of quality and productivity. Since the lifetime of products may possess a two-parameter exponential distribution, 14 estimators are used to estimate the lifetime performance index based on the multiply type II censored sample. These estimators are utilized to develop the new hypothesis testing algorithmic procedure in the condition of known L. Finally, two practical examples are illustrated to employ the testing algorithmic procedure to determine whether the process is capable.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with obtaining more accurate point forecasts in the presence of non-normal errors. Specifically, we apply the residual augmented least-squares (RALS) estimator to autoregressive models to utilize the additional moment restrictions embodied in non-normal errors. Monte Carlo experiments are performed to compare our RALS forecasts to forecasts based on the ordinary least-squares estimator and the least absolute deviations (LAD) estimator. We find that the RALS approach provides superior forecasts when the data are skewed. Compared to the LAD forecast, the RALS forecast has smaller mean squared prediction errors in the baseline case with normal errors.  相似文献
