In this paper, we introduce Procrustes analysis in a Bayesian framework, by treating the classic Procrustes regression equation from a Bayesian perspective, while modeling shapes in two dimensions. The Bayesian approach allows us to compute point estimates and credible sets for the full Procrustes fit parameters. The methods are illustrated through an application to radar data from short-term weather forecasts (nowcasts), a very important problem in hydrology and meteorology.  相似文献

In the life test, predicting higher failure times than the largest failure time of the observed is an important issue. Although the Rayleigh distribution is a suitable model for analyzing the lifetime of components that age rapidly over time because its failure rate function is an increasing linear function of time, the inference for a two-parameter Rayleigh distribution based on upper record values has not been addressed from the Bayesian perspective. This paper provides Bayesian analysis methods by proposing a noninformative prior distribution to analyze survival data, using a two-parameter Rayleigh distribution based on record values. In addition, we provide a pivotal quantity and an algorithm based on the pivotal quantity to predict the behavior of future survival records. We show that the proposed method is superior to the frequentist counterpart in terms of the mean-squared error and bias through Monte carlo simulations. For illustrative purposes, survival data on lung cancer patients are analyzed, and it is proved that the proposed model can be a good alternative when prior information is not given.  相似文献

In event history analysis, the problem of modeling two interdependent processes is still not completely solved. In a frequentist framework, there are two most general approaches: the causal approach and the system approach. The recent growing interest in Bayesian statistics suggests some interesting works on survival models and event history analysis in a Bayesian perspective. In this work we present a possible solution for the analysis of dynamic interdependence by a Bayesian perspective in a graphical duration model framework, using marked point processes. Main results from the Bayesian approach and the comparison with the frequentist one are illustrated on a real example: the analysis of the dynamic relationship between fertility and female employment.  相似文献

In this article, the problem of parameter estimation and variable selection in the Tobit quantile regression model is considered. A Tobit quantile regression with the elastic net penalty from a Bayesian perspective is proposed. Independent gamma priors are put on the l1 norm penalty parameters. A novel aspect of the Bayesian elastic net Tobit quantile regression is to treat the hyperparameters of the gamma priors as unknowns and let the data estimate them along with other parameters. A Bayesian Tobit quantile regression with the adaptive elastic net penalty is also proposed. The Gibbs sampling computational technique is adapted to simulate the parameters from the posterior distributions. The proposed methods are demonstrated by both simulated and real data examples.  相似文献

Very often, the likelihoods for circular data sets are of quite complicated forms, and the functional forms of the normalising constants, which depend upon the unknown parameters, are unknown. This latter problem generally precludes rigorous, exact inference (both classical and Bayesian) for circular data.Noting the paucity of literature on Bayesian circular data analysis, and also because realistic data analysis is naturally permitted by the Bayesian paradigm, we address the above problem taking a Bayesian perspective. In particular, we propose a methodology that combines importance sampling and Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) in a very effective manner to sample from the posterior distribution of the parameters, given the circular data. With simulation study and real data analysis, we demonstrate the considerable reliability and flexibility of our proposed methodology in analysing circular data.  相似文献

The paper proposes a Bayesian quantile regression method for hierarchical linear models. Existing approaches of hierarchical linear quantile regression models are scarce and most of them were not from the perspective of Bayesian thoughts, which is important for hierarchical models. In this paper, based on Bayesian theories and Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods, we introduce Asymmetric Laplace distributed errors to simulate joint posterior distributions of population parameters and across-unit parameters and then derive their posterior quantile inferences. We run a simulation as the proposed method to examine the effects on parameters induced by units and quantile levels; the method is also applied to study the relationship between Chinese rural residents' family annual income and their cultivated areas. Both the simulation and real data analysis indicate that the method is effective and accurate.  相似文献

In this paper, we present large sample properties of a partially linear model from the Bayesian perspective, in which responses are explained by the semiparametric regression model with the additive form of the linear component and the nonparametric component. For this purpose, we investigate asymptotic behaviors of posterior distributions in terms of consistency. Specifically, we deal with a specific Bayesian partially linear regression model with additive noises in which the nonparametric component is modeled using Gaussian process priors. Under the Bayesian partially linear model using Gaussian process priors, we focus on consistency of posterior distribution and consistency of the Bayes factor, and extend these results to generalized additive regression models and study their asymptotic properties. In addition we illustrate the asymptotic properties based on empirical analysis through simulation studies.  相似文献

For centuries, Alfred the Great was judged to have translated several Latin texts into Old English. Many scholars, however, have expressed doubt whether Alfred could have done all of this work. With the availability of the Old English Corpus in electronic form, it is feasible to subject the texts to statistical stylometric analysis. We approach the problem from a Bayesian perspective where key words are identified and frequencies of the key words are tabulated for seven relevant texts. The question of authorship falls into the general statistical problem of classification where several simple innovations to classical agglomerative procedures are introduced. Our results suggest that one translation that has been traditionally attributed to Alfred (The First Fifty Prose Psalms) tends to distinguish itself from texts that are known to be Alfredian.  相似文献

Summary. The paper demonstrates how cost-effectiveness decision analysis may be implemented from a Bayesian perspective, using Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation methods for both the synthesis of relevant evidence input into the model and the evaluation of the model itself. The desirable aspects of a Bayesian approach for this type of analysis include the incorporation of full parameter uncertainty, the ability to perform all the analysis, including each meta-analysis, in a single coherent model and the incorporation of expert opinion either directly or regarding the relative credibility of different data sources. The method is described, and its ease of implementation demonstrated, through a practical example to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of using taxanes for the second-line treatment of advanced breast cancer compared with conventional treatment. For completeness, the results from the Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation model are compared and contrasted with those from a classical Monte Carlo simulation model.  相似文献

In this paper we deal with a Bayesian analysis for right-censored survival data suitable for populations with a cure rate. We consider a cure rate model based on the negative binomial distribution, encompassing as a special case the promotion time cure model. Bayesian analysis is based on Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods. We also present some discussion on model selection and an illustration with a real data set.  相似文献

Configural Frequency Analysis (CFA) asks whether a cell in a cross-classification contains more or fewer cases than expected with respect to some base model. This base model is specified such that cells with more cases than expected (also called types) can be interpreted from a substantive perspective. The same applies to cells with fewer cases than expected (antitypes). This article gives an introduction to both frequentist and Bayesian approaches to CFA. Specification of base models, testing, and protection are discussed. In an example, Prediction CFA and two-sample CFA are illustrated. The discussion focuses on the differences between CFA and modelling.  相似文献

This paper is motivated from a neurophysiological study of muscle fatigue, in which biomedical researchers are interested in understanding the time-dependent relationships of handgrip force and electromyography measures. A varying coefficient model is appealing here to investigate the dynamic pattern in the longitudinal data. The response variable in the study is continuous but bounded on the standard unit interval (0, 1) over time, while the longitudinal covariates are contaminated with measurement errors. We propose a generalization of varying coefficient models for the longitudinal proportional data with errors-in-covariates. We describe two estimation methods with penalized splines, which are formalized under a Bayesian inferential perspective. The first method is an adaptation of the popular regression calibration approach. The second method is based on a joint likelihood under the hierarchical Bayesian model. A simulation study is conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the proposed methods under different scenarios. The analysis of the neurophysiological data is presented to demonstrate the use of the methods.  相似文献

There is considerable question about how a Bayesian might provide a point estimate for a parameter when no loss function is specified. The mean, median, and mode of the posterior distribution have all been suggested. This article considers a natural Bayesian estimator based on the predictive distribution of future observations. It is shown that for the set of parameters that admit an unbiased estimate, this predictive estimate coincides with the posterior mean of the parameter. It is argued that this result provides some justification for use of the posterior mean as a Bayesian point estimate when there is no loss structure.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider an exponential form for the underlying distributionand a conjugate prior, and develop a procedure for deriving the maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimators based on an observed generalized Type-I hybrid censored sample. The problems of predicting the future order statistics from the same sample and that from a future sample are also discussed from a Bayesian viewpoint. For the illustration of the developed results, the exponential and Pareto distributions are used as examples. Finally, two numerical examples are presented for illustrating all the inferential procedures developed here.  相似文献

In this note the problem of nonparametric regression function estimation in a random design regression model with Gaussian errors is considered from the Bayesian perspective. It is assumed that the regression function belongs to a class of functions with a known degree of smoothness. A prior distribution on the given class can be induced by a prior on the coefficients in a series expansion of the regression function through an orthonormal system. The rate of convergence of the resulting posterior distribution is employed to provide a measure of the accuracy of the Bayesian estimation procedure defined by the posterior expected regression function. We show that the Bayes’ estimator achieves the optimal minimax rate of convergence under mean integrated squared error over the involved class of regression functions, thus being comparable to other popular frequentist regression estimators.  相似文献

Prediction limits for Poisson distribution are useful in real life when predicting the occurrences of some phenomena, for example, the number of infections from a disease per year among school children, or the number of hospitalizations per year among patients with cardiovascular disease. In order to allocate the right resources and to estimate the associated cost, one would want to know the worst (i.e., an upper limit) and the best (i.e., the lower limit) scenarios. Under the Poisson distribution, we construct the optimal frequentist and Bayesian prediction limits, and assess frequentist properties of the Bayesian prediction limits. We show that Bayesian upper prediction limit derived from uniform prior distribution and Bayesian lower prediction limit derived from modified Jeffreys non informative prior coincide with their respective frequentist limits. This is not the case for the Bayesian lower prediction limit derived from a uniform prior and the Bayesian upper prediction limit derived from a modified Jeffreys prior distribution. Furthermore, it is shown that not all Bayesian prediction limits derived from a proper prior can be interpreted in a frequentist context. Using a counterexample, we state a sufficient condition and show that Bayesian prediction limits derived from proper priors satisfying our condition cannot be interpreted in a frequentist context. Analysis of simulated data and data on Atlantic tropical storm occurrences are presented.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

When data analysts operate within different statistical frameworks (e.g., frequentist versus Bayesian, emphasis on estimation versus emphasis on testing), how does this impact the qualitative conclusions that are drawn for real data? To study this question empirically we selected from the literature two simple scenarios—involving a comparison of two proportions and a Pearson correlation—and asked four teams of statisticians to provide a concise analysis and a qualitative interpretation of the outcome. The results showed considerable overall agreement; nevertheless, this agreement did not appear to diminish the intensity of the subsequent debate over which statistical framework is more appropriate to address the questions at hand.  相似文献

The paper considers Bayesian analysis of the generalized four-parameter gamma distribution. Estimation of parameters using classical techniques is associated with important technical problems while Bayesian methods are not currently available for such distributions. Posterior inference is performed using numerical methods organized around Gibbs sampling. Predictive distributions and reliability can be estimated routinely using the proposed methods.  相似文献

The sensitivity of-a Bayesian inference to prior assumptions is examined by Monte Carlo simulation for the beta-binomial conjugate family of distributions. Results for the effect on a Bayesian probability interval of the binomial parameter indicate that the Bayesian inference is for the most part quite sensitive to misspecification of the prior distribution. The magnitude of the sensitivity depends primarily on the difference of assigned means and variances from the respective means and variances of the actually-sampled prior distributions. The effect of a disparity in form between the assigned prior and actually-sampled distributions was less important for the cases tested.  相似文献
