Developing “A Framework for Planning U.S. Federal Statistics, 1978–1989”

The Statistical Policy Division of the Office of Management and Budget has the overall responsibility for the planning and coordination of U.S. government statistics. The present staff of the Statistical Policy Division is attempting, through an integrated publication entitled “A Framework for Planning U.S. Federal Statistics, 1978–1989,” to state its perspective on necessary developments in the coming years. This article illustrates the character of the Framework materials and outlines the process for public review and comment on this undertaking.     

中美经贸统计体制比较研究

本文从统计体制集中与分散的角度,对中美两国的经贸统计体制进行分析和对比,发现美国经贸统计体制相对集中,而中国经贸统计体制相对分散的特点。进而提出在相关部委（局）之间和商务部职能司之间加强对经贸统计协调工作的建议。     

对当前几个统计理论问题的新思考

近年来,社会经济统计学与数理统计学地位之争愈演愈烈,“大统计学论”和“数理统计学唯一论”是这场争论中有代表性的学术观点,但是笔者在对两门统计学系统分析之后认为：大统计思路不能从根本上解决学科性质问题,数理统计也不能作为统计学的唯一取向。由于研究对象的复杂性与综合广延性决定了核算统计理论大有学问,并指出“传统与现代”两分观是统计理论研究中极端化趋向的根源。     

美国统计高等教育的现状及其发展趋势

统计学专业已经成为当今美国最热门的专业之一。美国统计学会的最新报告详细介绍了统计学和生物统计学专业的科研经费、学生就业及薪金水平等情况。美国国家卫生研究院于2001年和2003年先后两次召开专题会议,研讨生物统计学专业人才的培养、美国学界呼吁：加强下一代统计和生物统计专业人才的培养,特别要重视多重背景高层次统计学专业人才的培养。     

统计法制建设疑难问题及对策研究

文章指出:《统计法》已制定了20年之久,存在着许多缺陷和不足,严重地影响了我国统计法制建设的顺利进行,迫切需要进一步地修改和完善。因此,修改现行的《统计法》已成为当务之急。

The Hausdorff Space and Applied Statistics: A View from the U.S.S.R.

The article focuses on the debate in the pages of the Soviet statistical journal Vestnik Statistiki as to the existence and relevance of applied statistics as a separate scientific discipline. The contents of four letters to the editor and relevant editorial comments that appeared in this journal between October 1985 and July 1987 are analyzed.     

Challenges and Opportunities for Statistics in the Next 25 Years

Beginning with the 75th Anniversary of the American Statistical Association in 1914 and for subsequent 25-year celebrations, distinguished members of the association have addressed the future of statistics. A four-person panel engaged in the same exercise during the 2014 Joint Statistical Meetings for the ASA's dodransbicentennial. The panel identified a variety of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for the profession in the next quarter of a century. This article highlights some of the discussion that took place.
