In this paper, we study the class of inflated modified power series distributions (IMPSD) where inflation occurs at any of the support points. This class include among other the generalized Poisson, the generalized negative binomial, the generalized logarithmic series and the lost games distributions. We give expressions for the moments, factorial moments and central moments of the IMPSD. The maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters of the IMPSD and the variance – covariance matrix of the estimators is obtained. We derive these estimators and their information matrices for mentioned above particular members of IMPSD class. The second part of this paper deals with the distribution of sum of independent and identically distributed random variables taking values s, s+1. s + 2, …, s ≥ 0, with modified power series distributions inflated at the point s.  相似文献

This article addresses two methods of estimation of the probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) for the Lindley distribution. Following estimation methods are considered: uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator (UMVUE) and maximum likelihood estimator (MLE). Since the Lindley distribution is more flexible than the exponential distribution, the same estimators have been found out for the exponential distribution and compared. Monte Carlo simulations and a real data analysis are performed to compare the performances of the proposed methods of estimation.  相似文献

A linear combination test for combining several tests of the correlation coefficient in the bivariate normal distribution is proposed. Structured means have been used in studying possible covariate effects on responses, whereas patterned covariances deal with random effects, missing data, and differing study designs. In this article, we develop new multivariate models with patterned means and covariance matrices to deal with special structures of the post-mortem brain tissue data collected in the Conte Center for the Neuroscience of Mental Disorders at the University of Pittsburgh. We obtain maximum likelihood estimates via the method of scoring for these new structured models. One-iteration estimators from a consistent starting point are used to derive the asymptotic distributions. The model fitting algorithms, as well as the asymptotic distributions, are examined using simulated data, and are applied to data from post-mortem tissue studies in schizophrenia.  相似文献

In this article, we express the profile log-likelihood function for the three-parameter gamma distribution in terms of the location parameter only and we study its properties. The behavior of the profile function is examined as the location parameter tends to the boundary values, i.e., to ? ∞ and to the minimum value of the sample. As a result, we obtain that if the log-likelihood function has a local maximum then it has another stationary value which is a saddle point. This paper deals with the derivation of (i) the MLE (ii) the MVUE (iii) a Bayes estimator of the probability in the title, for the case p = 2. Simulation studies are carried out to compare these estimators. The results suggest that the MLE and the Bayes estimator are biased and the Bayes estimator have the smallest MSE. In the general case, explicit expression for the probability in the title is derived and the MLE and Bayes estimator are obtained. A general method of deriving the MVUE is pointed out. Because of the simulation studies for p = 2 it is recommended that the Bayes or predictive estimator should be used.  相似文献

This article examines the probabilities of outcomes from rolling dice with the dimension 1 × 1 × r for various values of r. Experiments were conducted by school students and university students. The results of the experiments are given and the probabilities examined using a generalized linear model. This article describes an algorithm for the identification of outliers in multivariate data based on the asymptotic theory for location estimation as described typically for the trimmed likelihood estimator and in particular for the minimum covariance determinant estimator. The strategy is to choose a subset of the data which minimizes an appropriate measure of the asymptotic variance of the multivariate location estimator. Observations not belonging to this subset are considered potential outliers which should be trimmed. For α less than about 0.5, the correct trimming proportion is taken to be that α > 0 for which the minimum of any minima of this measure of the asymptotic variance occurs. If no minima occur for an α > 0 then the data set will be considered outlier free.  相似文献

Based on record values, this article deals with inference for stress–strength reliability, R = P(X < Y), where the distributions of X and Y follow proportional hazard rate models but having different parameters. Maximum likelihood estimator, uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator, Bayes estimator, and different confidence intervals for R are obtained. Maximum likelihood estimation under constraints for estimation in the Wishart class of distributions, is considered. It provides a unified approach to estimation in a variety of problems concerning covariance matrices. Virtually all covariance structures can be translated to constraints on the covariances. This includes covariance matrices with given structure such as linearly patterned covariance matrices, covariance matrices with zeros, independent covariance matrices and structurally dependent covariance matrices. The methodology followed in this paper provides a useful and simple approach to directly obtain the exact maximum likelihood estimates. These maximum likelihood estimates are obtained via an estimation procedure for the exponential class using constraints.  相似文献

This is a comparative study between the estimates of parameters of mixed distributions in the case of the possibility of separating the units of subpopulation or the absence of that possibility under the progressive type I censored test data. An iterative procedure is developed and tested numerically to obtain new estimators and their variance–covariance matrix. Finally, we will use the exact distribution of the maximum likelihood estimators as well as its asymptotic distribution and the parametric bootstrap method; then, we will discuss the construction of confidence intervals for the mean parameter and their performance is assessed through Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

Consider the problem of estimating the common location parameter of two exponential populations using record data when the scale parameters are unknown. We derive the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE), the modified maximum likelihood estimator (MMLE) and the uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator (UMVUE) of the common location parameter. Further, we derive a general result for inadmissibility of an equivariant estimator under the scaled-squared error loss function. Using this result, we conclude that the MLE and the UMVUE are inadmissible and better estimators are provided. A simulation study is conducted for comparing the performances of various competing estimators.  相似文献

A new multivariate inverse Polya distribution of order k, type I, is derived by means of a generalized urn scheme and by compounding the multivariate negative binomial distribution of order k, type I, of Philippou, Antzoulakos and Tripsiannis (1988) with the Dirichlet distribution. It is noted that this new distribution includes as special cases a new multivariate inverse hypergeometric distribution of order k and a new multivariate negative inverse one of the same order. The mean and variance-covariance of the multivariate inverse Polya distribution of order k, type I, are derived, and two known distributions of the same order are shown to be limiting cases of it.  相似文献

This paper examines the joint statistical analysis of M independent data sets, the jth of which satisfies the model λj Yj=XjB +εj, where the λj are unknown and the εi are normally distributed with a known correlation structure. The maximum likelihood equations, their asymptotic covariance matrix, and the likelihood ratio test of the hypothesis that the λjs are all equal are derived. The Marshall–Olkin extended two-parameter bathtub distribution is introduced and its structural properties are investigated, including the compounding representation of the distribution, the shapes of the density and the hazard rate function, the moments and quantiles. Estimation of the model parameters by maximum likelihood is discussed. Applications to some real data sets which motivate the usefulness of the model are provided. Comparison between the proposed model and other commonly used distributions is performed using real data sets. A simulation study is presented to investigate the accuracy of the estimates of the model's parameters.  相似文献

Selection processes that are inherent in litigation complicate policy-oriented research of medical malpractice tort reforms. In regard to their deterrent impact, the range of potential inferences based on analyses of claim frequency is limited because plaintiffs only file a subset of potential claims. In regard to their impact on litigation costs, researchers often analyze data on claim disposition, but it is difficult to determine whether effects attributed to tort reforms reflect changes in litigant behavior or their influence on the selection of claims. In this article, we evaluate these problems and report results of our study of the effects of medical malpractice reforms on claim disposition.  相似文献
