The problem of simultaneously selecting two non-empty subsets, SLand SU, of k populations which contain the lower extreme population (LEP) and the upper extreme population (UEP), respectively, is considered. Unknown parameters θ1,…,θkcharacterize the populations π1,…,πkand the populations associated with θ[1]=min θi. and θ[k]= max θi. are called the LEP and the UEP, respectively. It is assumed that the underlying distributions possess the monotone likelihood ratio property and that the prior distribution of θ= (θ1,…,θk) is exchangeable. The Bayes rule with respect to a general loss function is obtained. Bayes rule with respect to a semi-additive and non-negative loss function is also determined and it is shown that it is minimax and admissible. When the selected subsets are required to be disjoint, it shown that the Bayes rule with respect to a specific loss function can be obtained by comparing certain computable integrals, Application to normal distributions with unknown means θ1,…,θkand a common known variance is also considered.  相似文献

This paper develops a new test statistic for testing hypotheses of the form HO M0=M1=…=Mk versus Ha: M0≦M1,M2,…,Mk] where at least one inequality is strict. M0 is the median of the control population and M1 is the median of the population receiving trearment i, i=1,2,…,k. The population distributions are assumed to be unknown but to differ only in their location parameters if at all. A simulation study is done comparing the new test statistic with the Chacko and the Kruskal-Wallis when the underlying population distributions are either normal, uniform, exponential, or Cauchy. Sample sizes of five, eight, ten, and twenty were considered. The new test statistic did better than the Chacko and the Kruskal-Wallis when the medians of the populations receiving the treatments were approximately the same  相似文献

Let D(υ, k, λ) be a symmetric design containing a symmetric design D1(υ1, k1, λ1) (k1 < k) and let x = υ1(k ? k1)/(υ ? υ1). We show that k ≥(k1 ? x)2 + λ If equality holds, D1 is called a tight subdesign of D. In the special case, λ1 = λ, the inequality reduces to that of R.C. Bose and S.S. Shrikhande and tight subdesigns then correspond to their notion of Baer subdesigns. The possibilities for (7upsi;, k, λ) designs having Baer subdesigns are investigated.  相似文献

Independent random samples (of possibly unequal sizes) are drawn from k (≥2) uniform populations having unknown scale parameters μ1,…,μk. The problem of componentwise estimation of ordered parameters is investigated. The loss function is assumed to be squared error and the cases of known and unknown ordering among μ1,…,μk. are dealt with separately. Sufficient conditions for an estimator to be inadmissible are provided and as a consequence, many natural estimators are shown to be inadmissible, Better estimators are provided.  相似文献

A Box-Cox transformed linear model usually has the form y(λ) = μ + β1x1 +… + βpxp + oe, where y(λ) is the power transform of y. Although widely used in practice, the Fisher information matrix for the unknown parameters and, in particular, its inverse have not been studied seriously in the literature. We obtain those two important matrices to put the Box-Cox transformed linear model on a firmer ground. The question of how to make inference on β = (β1,…,βp)T when λ; is estimated from the data is then discussed for large but finite sample size by studying some parameter-based asymptotics. Both unconditional and conditional inference are studied from the frequentist point of view.  相似文献

Let T2 i=z′iS?1zi, i==,…k be correlated Hotelling's T2 statistics under normality. where z=(z′i,…,z′k)′ and nS are independently distributed as Nkp((O,ρ?∑) and Wishart distribution Wp(∑, n), respectively. The purpose of this paper is to study the distribution function F(x1,…,xk) of (T2 i,…,T2 k) when n is large. First we derive an asymptotic expansion of the characteristic function of (T2 i,…,T2 k) up to the order n?2. Next we give asymptotic expansions for (T2 i,…,T2 k) in two cases (i)ρ=Ik and (ii) k=2 by inverting the expanded characteristic function up to the orders n?2 and n?1, respectively. Our results can be applied to the distribution function of max (T2 i,…,T2 k) as a special case.  相似文献

Let π01,…,πk be k+1 independent populations. For i=0,1,…,ki has the densit f(xi), where the (unknown) parameter θi belongs to an interval of the real line. Our goal is to select from π1,… πk (experimental treatments) those populations, if any, that are better (suitably defined) than π0 which is the control population. A locally optimal rule is derived in the class of rules for which Pr(πi is selected)γi, i=1,…,k, when θ01=?=θk. The criterion used for local optimality amounts to maximizing the efficiency in a certain sense of the rule in picking out the superior populations for specific configurations of θ=(θ0,…,θk) in a neighborhood of an equiparameter configuration. The general result is then applied to the following special cases: (a) normal means comparison — common known variance, (b) normal means comparison — common unknown variance, (c) gamma scale parameters comparison — known (unequal) shape parameters, and (d) comparison of regression slopes. In all these cases, the rule is obtained based on samples of unequal sizes.  相似文献

We consider a test for the equality of k population medians, θi i=1,2,….,k, when it is believed a priori, that θ i: The observations are subject to right censorhip. The distributions of the censoring variables for each population are assumed to be equal. This test is compared with the general k-sample test proposed by Breslow  相似文献

It is assumed that k(k?>?2) independent samples of sizes n i (i?=?1, …, k) are available from k lognormal distributions. Four hypothesis cases (H 1H 4) are defined. Under H 1, all k median parameters as well as all k skewness parameters are equal; under H 2, all k skewness parameters are equal but not all k median parameters are equal; under H 3, all k median parameters are equal but not all k skewness parameters are equal; under H 4, neither the k median parameters nor the k skewness parameters are equal. The Expectation Maximization (EM) algorithm is used to obtain the maximum likelihood (ML) estimates of the lognormal parameters in each of these four hypothesis cases. A (2k???1) degree polynomial is solved at each step of the EM algorithm for the H 3 case. A two-stage procedure for testing the equality of the medians either under skewness homogeneity or under skewness heterogeneity is also proposed and discussed. A simulation study was performed for the case k?=?3.  相似文献

We develop a ‘robust’ statistic T2 R, based on Tiku's (1967, 1980) MML (modified maximum likelihood) estimators of location and scale parameters, for testing an assumed meam vector of a symmetric multivariate distribution. We show that T2 R is one the whole considerably more powerful than the prominenet Hotelling T2 statistics. We also develop a robust statistic T2 D for testing that two multivariate distributions (skew or symmetric) are identical; T2 D seems to be usually more powerful than nonparametric statistics. The only assumption we make is that the marginal distributions are of the type (1/σk)f((x-μk)/σk) and the means and variances of these marginal distributions exist.  相似文献

Consider the problem of testing the composite null hypothesis that a random sample X1,…,Xn is from a parent which is a member of a particular continuous parametric family of distributions against an alternative that it is from a separate family of distributions. It is shown here that in many cases a uniformly most powerful similar (UMPS) test exists for this problem, and, moreover, that this test is equivalent to a uniformly most powerful invariant (UMPI) test. It is also seen in the method of proof used that the UMPS test statistic Is a function of the statistics U1,…,Un?k obtained by the conditional probability integral transformations (CPIT), and thus that no Information Is lost by these transformations, It is also shown that these optimal tests have power that is a nonotone function of the null hypothesis class of distributions, so that, for example, if one additional parameter for the distribution is assumed known, then the power of the test can not lecrease. It Is shown that the statistics U1, …, Un?k are independent of the complete sufficient statistic, and that these statistics have important invariance properties. Two examples at given. The UMPS tests for testing the two-parameter uniform family against the two-parameter exponential family, and for testing one truncation parameter distribution against another one are derived.  相似文献

The norm 6A6 = {tr(A′A)}12 of the alias matrix A of a design can be used as a measure for selecting a design. In this paper, an explicit expression for 6A6 will be given for a balanced fractional 2m factorial design of resolution 2l + 1 which obtained from a simple array with parameters (m; λ0, λ1,…, λm). This array is identical with a balanced array of strength m, m constraints and index set {λ0, λ1,…, λm}. In the class of the designs of resolution V (l = 2) obtained from S-arrays, ones which minimize 6A6 will be presented for any fixed N assemblies satisfying (i) m = 4, 11 ? N ? 16, (ii) m = 5, 16 ? N ? 32, and (iii) m = 6, 22 ? N ? 40.  相似文献

We consider the problem of robustness in hierarchical Bayes models. Let X = (X1,X2, … ,Xp)τ be a random vector, the X1 being independently distributed as N(θ12) random variables (σ2 known), while the θ1 are thought to be exchangeable, modelled as i.i.d, N(μ,τ2). The hyperparameter µ is given a noninformative prior distribution π(μ) = 1 and τ2 is assumed to be independent of µ having a distribution g(τ2) lying in a certain class of distributions g. For several g's, including e-contaminations classes and density ratio classes we determine the range of the posterior mean of θ1 as g ranges over g.  相似文献

The problem discussed is that of estimating β= (β1, …, βk) in the model Y=βX +ε when X has a specified multivariate distribution and the error ε does not necessarily have a finite second moment, for example, ε symmetric stable. We construct a moment estimator based on the empirical characteristic function and establish asymptotic unbiassedness and normality. Most of the paper is concerned with the case when X is normal. Forms of the suggested estimator are given in (2.5), (4.6) and (5.5).  相似文献

Sufficient conditions are derived for the determination of E-optimal designs in the class D(v,b1,b2,k1,k2) of incomplete block designs for v treatments in b1 blocks of size k1 each and b2 blocks of size k2 each. Some constructions for E-optimal designs that satisfy the sufficient conditions obtained here are given. In particular, it is shown that E-optimal designs in D(v,b1,b2,k1,k2) can be constructed by augmenting b2 blocks, with k2k1 extra plots each, of a BIBD(v,b = b1 + b2,k1,λ) and GDD(v,b = b1 + b2,k1,λ1,λ2). It is also shown that equireplicate E-optimal designs in D(v,b1,b2,k1,k2) can be constructed by combining disjoint blocks of BIBD(v,b,k1,λ) and GDD(v,b,k1,λ1,λ2) into larger blocks. As applications of the construction techniques, several infinite series of E-optimal designs with small block sizes differing by at most two are given. Lower bounds for the A-efficiency are derived and it is found that A-efficiency exceeds 99% for v ⩾ 10, and at least 97.5% for 5 ⩽v < 10.  相似文献

Let X= (X1,…, Xk)’ be a k-variate (k ≥ 2) normal random vector with unknown population mean vector μ = (μ1 ,…, μk)’ and covariance matrix Σ of order k and let μ[1] ≤ … ≤ μ[k] be the ordered values of the μ ’ s. No prior knowledge of the pairing of the μ[i] with the Xj. (or μ[i] with the σj 2) is assumed for any i and j (1 ≤ i, j ≤ k). Based on a random sample of N independent vector observations on X, this paper considers both upper and lower (one-sided) and two-sided 100γ% (0 < γ < 1) confidence intervals for μ[k] and μ[1], the largest and the smallest mean, respectively, when Σ is known and when Σ is equal to σ2R with common unknown variance σ2 > 0 and correlation matrix R known, respectively. An optimum two-sided confidence interval via finding the shortest length from this class is also considered. Necessary tables and computer program to actually apply these procedures are provided.  相似文献

A nest with parameters (r,k,λ)→(r′,k′,λ′) is a BIBD on (b,v,r,k,λ) where each block has a distinguished sublock of cardinality k, the sublocks forming a (b,v,r,k,λ)-design.These designs are ‘nested’ in the sense of W.T. Federer (1972), who recommended the use of these designs for the sequential addition of periods in marketing experiments in order to retain Youden design properties as rows are added. Note that for a Youden design, the b columns and v treatments are in an SBIBD arrangement with parameters v=b, k=r, and λ.  相似文献

In this paper a finite series approximation involving Laguerre polynomials is derived for central and noncentral multivariate gamma distributions. It is shown that if one approximates the density of any k nonnegative continuous random variables by a finite series of Laguerre polynomials up to the (n1, …, nk)th degree, then all the mixed moments up to the order (n1, …, nk) of the approximated distribution equal to the mixed moments up to the same order of the random variables. Some numerical results are given for the bivariate central and noncentral multivariate gamma distributions to indicate the usefulness of the approximations.  相似文献

Abstract There are given k (≥22) independent distributions with c.d.f.'s F(x;θj) indexed by a scale parameter θj, j = 1,…, k. Let θ[i] (i = 1,…, k) denote the ith smallest one of θ1,…, θk. In this paper we wish to show that, under some regularity conditions, there does not exist an exact β-level (0≤β1) confidence interval for the ith smallest scale parameter θi based on k independent samples. Since the log transformation method may not yield the desired results for the scale parameter problem, we will treat the scale parameter case directly without transformation. Application is considered for normal variances. Two conservative one-sided confidence intervals for the ith smallest normal variance and the percentage points needed to actually apply the intervals are provided.  相似文献

Let R be a family of k-element blocks of a v-element set V such that any two elements of V are contained in λ blocks of R and R=R1∪…∪Rv?1, RiRj=? (ij) and ?{BiRji=1,…,v?k}=V (Bi a block in Rj), i.e. R is a resolvable block design RB(v, k, λ). In this paper it will be shown that a sufficient condition for the existence of an RB(v, 8, 7) is that v≡0 (mod 8) and v is nondivisible by 3, 5, 7.  相似文献
