This paper discusses the problem of fitting a distribution function to the marginal distribution of a long memory moving average process. Because of the uniform reduction principle, unlike in the i.i.d. set up, classical tests based on empirical process are relatively easy to implement. More importantly, we discuss fitting the marginal distribution of the error process in location, scale, location–scale and linear regression models. An interesting observation is that in the location model, location–scale model, or more generally in the linear regression models with non-zero intercept parameter, the null weak limit of the first order difference between the residual empirical process and the null model is degenerate at zero, and hence it cannot be used to fit an error distribution in these models for the large samples. This finding is in sharp contrast to a recent claim of Chan and Ling (2008) that the null weak limit of such a process is a continuous Gaussian process. This note also proposes some tests based on the second order difference for the location case. Another finding is that residual empirical process tests in the scale problem are robust against not knowing the scale parameter.  相似文献

Jurečková and Sen (J. Statist. Plann. Inference 91 (2000) 377–397) proposed goodness-of-fit tests for models admitting nuisance location or nuisance location and scale parameters, based on the difference of two estimators of the location parameter, that are asymptotically first-order equivalent iff the null hypothesis is true. We illustrate here the numerical performance of these tests on simulated data, demonstrating their applicability to practical problems. Comparisons are also made with the well-known Shapiro–Wilk goodness-of-fit test.  相似文献

The first two stages in modelling times series are hypothesis testing and estimation. For long memory time series, the second stage was studied in the paper published in [M. Boutahar et al., Estimation methods of the long memory parameter: monte Carlo analysis and application, J. Appl. Statist. 34(3), pp. 261–301.] in which we have presented some estimation methods of the long memory parameter. The present paper is intended for the first stage, and hence completes the former, by exploring some tests for detecting long memory in time series. We consider two kinds of tests: the non-parametric class and the semi-parametric one. We precise the limiting distribution of the non-parametric tests under the null of short memory and we show that they are consistent against the alternative of long memory. We perform also some Monte Carlo simulations to analyse the size distortion and the power of all proposed tests. We conclude that for large sample size, the two classes are equivalent but for small sample size the non-parametric class is better than the semi-parametric one.  相似文献

The modified Tiku test and the modified likelihood ratio test proposed by Tiku and Vaughan (1991) for k=2 exponential populations are extended to . k > 2 populations. These tests are shown to be more powerful than the test proposed by Kambo and Awad (1985). Unlike the Kambo-Awad test, the proposed tests are shown to have almost symmetric power functions. Further, these tests can be applied when there is both left or right censoring present, in contrast to the tests of Sukhatme (1937), Bain and Englehardt (1991) and Elewa et al. (1992), who assume that there is no left censoring.  相似文献

Two tests are derived for the hypothesis that the coefficients of variation of k normal populations are equal. The k samples may be of unequal size. The first test is the likelihood ratio test with the usual X2-approximation. A simulation study shows that the small sample behaviour under the null hypothesis is unsatisfactory. An alternative test, based on the sample coefficients of variation, appears to have somewhat better properties.  相似文献

Based on two-sample rank order statistics, a repeated significance testing procedure for a multi-sample location problem is considered. The asymptotic distribution theory of the proposed tests is given under the null hypothesis as well as under local alternatives. A Bahadur efficiency result of the repeated significance test relative to the terminal test based solely on the target sample size is presented. In the adaptation of the proposed tests to multiple comparisons, an asymptotically equivalent test statistic in terms of the rank estimators of the location parameters is derived from which the Scheffé method of multiple comparisons can be obtained in a convinient way.  相似文献

Likelihood ratio tests for the homogeneity of k normal means with the alternative restricted by an increasing trend are considered as well as the likelihood ratio tests of the null hypothesis that the means satisfy the trend. While the work is primarily a survey of results concerning the power functions of these tests, the extensions of some results to the case of not necessarily equal sample sizes are presented. For the case of known or unknown population variances, exact expressions are given for the power functions for k=3,4, and approximations are discussed for larger k. The topics of consistency, bias and monotonicity of the power functions are included. Also, Bartholomew's conjectures concerning minimal and maximal powers are investigated, with results of a new numerical study given.  相似文献

Lewis (1972) has proposed a test for the slippage of the location parameter of k- populations when the direction of the slippage is unknown. In this paper, an extension of this test is proposed. The relation between Hodges–Lehmann efficiency and Pitman efficiency is studied in the context of testing one-sided hypotheses about a real-valued parameter. It is first shown that for tests based on sums of independently and identically distributed observations local Hodges-Lehmann efficiency is equivalent to Pitman efficiency. Then, it is proved that this equivalence also carries over to tests based on two broad classes of M -estimators for the location problem. In all cases considered explicit formulas of the Hodges-Lehmann efficacies are obtained.  相似文献

We propose a new test for testing the equality of location parameter of two populations based on empirical distribution function (ECDF). The test statistics is obtained as a power divergence between two ECDFs. The test is shown to be distribution free, and its null distribution is obtained. We conducted empirical power comparison of the proposed test with several other available tests in the literature. We found that the proposed test performs better than its competitors considered here under several population structures. We also used two real datasets to illustrate the procedure.  相似文献

Consider k (≥ 2) independent exponential populations with different location and scale parameters. Call a population associated with largest of unknown location parameters as the best population. For the goal of selecting the best population, it is established that if the scale parameters are completely unknown, then the indifference-zone probability requirement can not be guaranteed by any single sample decision rule which is just and translation invariant. Under the assumption that the scale parameters are bounded above by a known constant, a single sample selection procedure is proposed for which the indifference-zone probability requirement can be guaranteed. Under the same assumption, 100P*% simultaneous upper confidence intervals for all distances from the largest location parameter are also obtained.  相似文献

Consider a one-way layout of the analysis of variance assuming independence, normality, and homogeneity of variance. Test the null hypothesis Ho that the means, j., of each of Amp; columns, i = 1,…, k are equal versus the alternative that they follow an umbrella pattern. That is, the alternative is H1-H0 where H1: μ1> μ2>… > μk, and m is known. We derive a class of tests which are unbiased and lie in a nontrivial complete class. We recommend specific tests within the class. A simulation of the power functions of some tests is contrasted with the simulated power function of the likelihood ratio test.  相似文献

This paper proposes an affine‐invariant test extending the univariate Wilcoxon signed‐rank test to the bivariate location problem. It gives two versions of the null distribution of the test statistic. The first version leads to a conditionally distribution‐free test which can be used with any sample size. The second version can be used for larger sample sizes and has a limiting χ22 distribution under the null hypothesis. The paper investigates the relationship with a test proposed by Jan & Randles (1994). It shows that the Pitman efficiency of this test relative to the new test is equal to 1 for elliptical distributions but that the two tests are not necessarily equivalent for non‐elliptical distributions. These facts are also demonstrated empirically in a simulation study. The new test has the advantage of not requiring the assumption of elliptical symmetry which is needed to perform the asymptotic version of the Jan and Randles test.  相似文献

In this paper problems of tests of symmetry about the origin with discrete samples are considered. Recently Vorli?ková established the asymptotic normality of linear rank statistics and signed rank statistics in [5] and [6]. Here we propose statistics which are conditionally the sum of independent variables, including the locally most powerful tests for a one sided one parameter family. Their asymptotic distributions are derived under the null hypothesis and the contiguous rounding off location alternatives. Durairajan and Raman (1996 a, b) studied the robustness of Locally most powerful invariant (LMPI) tests for compound normal model in control and treatment populations. In the present paper, the Locally most powerful (LMP) tests are constructed for no contamination in normal mixture model through testing the parameter of mixture of distributions and the mixing proportion. The expected performance of LMP tests are compared using Efron's Statistical Curvature on the lines of Sen Gupta and Pal (1991). The Locally most powerful similar (LMPS) tests for the equality of control and treatment populations in the presence of nuisance parameters are also constructed. For location–scale families, we consider a random distance between the sample order statistics and the quasi sample order statistics derived from the null distribution as a measure of discrepancy. The conditional qth quantile and expectation of the random discrepancy on the given sample are chosen as test statistics. Simulation results of powers against various alternatives are illustrated under the normal and exponential hypotheses for moderate sample size. The proposed tests, especially the qth quantile tests with a small or large q, are shown to be more powerful than other prominent goodness-of-fit tests in most cases.  相似文献

Selection of the “best” t out of k populations has been considered in the indifferece zone formulation by Bachhofer (1954) and in the subset selection formulation by Carroll, Gupta and Huang (1975). The latter approach is used here to obtain conservative solutions for the goals of selecting (i) all the “good” or (ii) only “good” populations, where “good” means having a location parameter among the largest t. For the case of normal distributions, with common unknown variance, tables are produced for implementing these procedures. Also, for this case, simulation results suggest that the procedure may not be too conservative.  相似文献

Abstract.  This paper focuses on the problem of testing the null hypothesis that the regression parameter equals a fixed value under a semiparametric partly linear regression model by using a three-step robust estimate for the regression parameter and the regression function. Two families of tests statistics are considered and their asymptotic distributions are studied under the null hypothesis and under contiguous alternatives. A Monte Carlo study is performed to compare the finite sample behaviour of the proposed tests with the classical one.  相似文献
