The main theorem of this paper shows that foldover designs are the only (regular or nonregular) two-level factorial designs of resolution IV (strength 3) or more for n   runs and n/3?m?n/2n/3?m?n/2 factors. This theorem is a generalization of a coding theory result of Davydov and Tombak [1990. Quasiperfect linear binary codes with distance 4 and complete caps in projective geometry. Problems Inform. Transmission 25, 265–275] which, under translation, effectively states that foldover (or even) designs are the only regular two-level factorial designs of resolution IV or more for n   runs and 5n/16?m?n/25n/16?m?n/2 factors. This paper also contains other theorems including an alternative proof of Davydov and Tombak's result.  相似文献

It is known that for blocked 2n-k2n-k designs a judicious sequencing of blocks may allow one to obtain early and insightful results regarding influential parameters in the experiment. Such findings may justify the early termination of the experiment thereby producing cost and time savings. This paper introduces an approach for selecting the optimal sequence of blocks for regular two-level blocked fractional factorial split-plot screening experiments. An optimality criterion is developed so as to give priority to the early estimation of low-order factorial effects. This criterion is then applied to the minimum aberration blocked fractional factorial split-plot designs tabled in McLeod and Brewster [2004. The design of blocked fractional factorial split-plot experiments. Technometrics 46, 135–146]. We provide a catalog of optimal block sequences for 16 and 32-run minimum aberration blocked fractional factorial split-plot designs run in either 4 or 8 blocks.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we consider the construction of minimum aberration 2n ? k: 2p designs with respect to some existing combined wordlength patterns, where a 2n ? k: 2p design is a blocked two-level design with n treatment factors, 2p blocks, and N = 2q runs with q = n ? k. Two methods are proposed for two situations: n ? 2q ? p ? 1 and n > N/2. These methods enable us to obtain some new minimum aberration 2n ? k: 2p designs from existing minimum aberration unblocked and blocked designs. Examples are included to illustrate the theory.  相似文献

We consider the problem of constructing good two-level nonregular fractional factorial designs. The criteria of minimum G and G2 aberration are used to rank designs. A general design structure is utilized to provide a solution to this practical, yet challenging, problem. With the help of this design structure, we develop an efficient algorithm for obtaining a collection of good designs based on the aforementioned two criteria. Finally, we present some results for designs of 32 and 40 runs obtained from applying this algorithmic approach.  相似文献

In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the study of discrete discrepancy. In this paper, the popular discrete discrepancy is extended to the so-called generalized discrete discrepancy. Connections among generalized discrete discrepancy and other optimality criteria, such as orthogonality, generalized minimum aberration and minimum moment aberration, are investigated. These connections provide strong statistical justification of generalized discrete discrepancy. A lower bound of generalized discrete discrepancy is also obtained, which serves as an important benchmark of design uniformity.  相似文献

This paper discusses the issue of choosing optimal designs when both blocking and foldover techniques are simultaneously employed to nonregular two-level fractional factorial designs. By using the indicator function, the treatment and block generalized wordlength patterns of the combined blocked design under a general foldover plan are defined. Some general properties of combined block designs are also obtained. Our results extend the findings of Ai et al. (2010) from regular designs to nonregular designs. Based on these theoretical results, a catalog of optimal blocking and foldover plans in terms of the generalized aberration criterion for nonregular initial design with 12, 16 and 20 runs is tabulated, respectively.  相似文献

By using exact integer programming (IP) (integer programming in infinite precision) bounds on the word-length patterns (WLPs) and generalized word-length patterns (GWPs) for fractional factorial designs are improved. In the literature, bounds on WLPs are formulated as linear programming (LP) problems. Although the solutions to such problems must be integral, the optimization is performed without the integrality constraints. Two examples of this approach are bounds on the number of words of length four for resolution IV regular designs, and a lower bound for the GWP of two-level orthogonal arrays. We reformulate these optimization problems as IP problems with additional valid constraints in the literature and improve the bounds in many cases. We compare the improved bound to the enumeration results in the literature to find many cases for which our bounds are achieved. By using the constraints in our integer programs we prove that f(16λ,2,4)?9f(16λ,2,4)?9 if λλ is odd where f(2tλ,2,t)f(2tλ,2,t) is the maximum n   for which an OA(N,n,2,t)OA(N,n,2,t) exists. We also present a theorem for constructing GMA OA(N,N/2-u,2,3)OA(N,N/2-u,2,3) for u=1,…,5u=1,,5.  相似文献

Use of the (M,S) criterion to select and classify factorial designs is proposed and studied. The criterion is easy to deal with computationally and it is independent of the choice of treatment contrasts. It can be applied to two-level designs as well as multi-level symmetrical and asymmetrical designs. An important connection between the (M,S) and minimum aberration criteria is derived for regular fractional factorial designs. Relations between the (M,S) criterion and generalized minimum aberration criteria on nonregular designs are also discussed. The (M,S) criterion is then applied to study the projective properties of some nonregular designs.  相似文献

The minimum aberration criterion has been advocated for ranking foldovers of 2k−p2kp fractional factorial designs (Li and Lin, 2003); however, a minimum aberration design may not maximize the number of clear low-order effects. We propose using foldover plans that sequentially maximize the number of clear low-order effects in the combined (initial plus foldover) design and investigate the extent to which these foldover plans differ from those that are optimal under the minimum aberration criterion. A small catalog is provided to summarize the results.  相似文献

Combinatorial extension and composition methods have been extensively used in the construction of block designs. One of the composition methods, namely the direct product or Kronecker product method was utilized by Chakravarti [1956] to produce certain types of fractional factorial designs. The present paper shows how the direct sum operation can be utilized in obtaining from initial fractional factorial designs for two separate symmetrical factorials a fractional factorial design for the corresponding asymmetrical factorial. Specifically, we provide some results which are useful in the construction of non-singular fractional factorial designs via the direct sum composition method. In addition a modified direct sum method is discussed and the consequences of imposing orthogonality are explored.  相似文献

Most fractional factorial designs have no replicated points and thus do not provide a reliable estimate for experimental error. The objective of this paper is to study the issue of partially replicated two-level fractional factorial (FF) designs, thereby allowing for the unbiased estimation of the experimental error while maintaining the orthogonality of the main effects. Through the tool of indicator function and the idea of semifoldover, we propose two simple and effective techniques to produce designs with partially replicated points in general two-level FF designs, whether they are regular or not. The related properties of constructed partially replicated designs are investigated. Our results indicate that partially replicated FF are competitive in practice.  相似文献

The presence of block effects makes the optimal selection of fractional factorial designs a difficult task. The existing frequentist methods try to combine treatment and block wordlength patterns and apply minimum aberration criterion to find the optimal design. However, ambiguities exist in combining the two wordlength patterns and therefore, the optimality of such designs can be challenged. Here we propose a Bayesian approach to overcome this problem. The main technique is to postulate a model and a prior distribution to satisfy the common assumptions in blocking and then, to develop an optimal design criterion for the efficient estimation of treatment effects. We apply our method to develop regular, nonregular, and mixed-level blocked designs. Several examples are presented to illustrate the advantages of the proposed method.  相似文献

Let D be a saturated fractional factorial design of the general K1 x K2 ...x Kt factorial such that it consists of m distinct treatment combinations and it is capable of providing an unbiased estimator of a subvector of m factorial parameters under the assumption that the remaining k-m,t (k = H it ) factorial parameters are negligible. Such a design will not provide an unbiased estimator of the varianceσ2 Suppose that D is an optimal design with respect to some optimality criterion (e.g. d-optimality, a-optimality or e-optimality) and it is desirable to augment D with c treatmentcombinations with the aim to estimate 2 Suppose that D is an optimal design with respect to some optimality criterion (e.g. d-optimality, a-optimality or e-optimality) and it is desirable to augment D with c treatment combinations with the aim to estimate σ2 unbiasedly. The problem then is how to select the c treatment combinations such that the augmented design D retains its optimality property. This problem, in all its generality is extremely complex. The objective of this paper is to provide some insight in the problem by providing a partial answer in the case of the 2tfactorial, using the d-optimality criterion.  相似文献

Supersaturated designs offer a potentially useful way to investigate many factors in few experiments i.e. typical screening situations. Their design properties have mainly been evaluated based on their ability to identify and estimate main effects. Projective properties have received little attention. In this paper we show how to construct two-level supersaturated designs for 2(n−2) factors in n runs (n a multiple of four) of projectivity P=3 or near projectivity P=3 from orthogonal non-regular two-level designs. The designs obtained also have favourable properties such as low maximum absolute value of the inner product between a main effect column and a two-factor interaction column and relatively few types of different projections onto subsets consisting of three factor columns.  相似文献

Uniform designs are widely used in various applications. However, it is computationally intractable to construct uniform designs, even for moderate number of runs, factors and levels. We establish a linear relationship between average squared centered L2-discrepancy and generalized wordlength pattern, and then based on it, we propose a general method for constructing uniform designs with arbitrary number of levels. The main idea is to choose a generalized minimum aberration design and then permute its levels. We propose a novel stochastic algorithm and obtain many new uniform designs that have smaller centered L2-discrepancies than the existing ones.  相似文献

The problem considered is that of finding optimum covariate designs for estimation of covariate parameters in standard split-plot and strip-plot design set-ups with the levels of the whole-plot factor in r randomised blocks. Also an extended version of a mixed orthogonal array has been introduced, which is used to construct such optimum covariate designs. Hadamard matrices, as usual, play the key role for such construction.  相似文献

In a general fractional factorial design, the n levels of a factor are coded by the nth roots of the unity. This device allows a full generalization to mixed-level designs of the theory of the polynomial indicator function which has already been introduced for two-level designs in a joint paper with Fontana. The properties of orthogonal arrays and regular fractions are discussed.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Formulas for A- and C-optimal allocations for binary factorial experiments in the context of generalized linear models are derived. Since the optimal allocations depend on GLM weights, which often are unknown, a minimax strategy is considered. This is shown to be simple to apply to factorial experiments. Efficiency is used to evaluate the resulting design. In some cases, the minimax design equals the optimal design. For other cases no general conclusion can be drawn. An example of a two-factor logit model suggests that the minimax design performs well, and often better than a uniform allocation.  相似文献

Summary.  When it is impractical to perform the experimental runs of a fractional factorial design in a completely random order, restrictions on the randomization can be imposed. The resulting design is said to have a split-plot, or nested, error structure. Similarly to fractional factorials, fractional factorial split-plot designs can be ranked by using the aberration criterion. Techniques that generate the required designs systematically presuppose unreplicated settings of the whole-plot factors. We use a cheese-making experiment to demonstrate the practical relevance of designs with replicated settings of these factors. We create such designs by splitting the whole plots according to one or more subplot effects. We develop a systematic method to generate the required designs and we use the method to create a table of designs that is likely to be useful in practice.  相似文献
