Exponential-family random graph models (ERGMs) provide a principled way to model and simulate features common in human social networks, such as propensities for homophily and friend-of-a-friend triad closure. We show that, without adjustment, ERGMs preserve density as network size increases. Density invariance is often not appropriate for social networks. We suggest a simple modification based on an offset which instead preserves the mean degree and accommodates changes in network composition asymptotically. We demonstrate that this approach allows ERGMs to be applied to the important situation of egocentrically sampled data. We analyze data from the National Health and Social Life Survey (NHSLS).  相似文献

Abstract

Handling data with the nonignorably missing mechanism is still a challenging problem in statistics. In this paper, we develop a fully Bayesian adaptive Lasso approach for quantile regression models with nonignorably missing response data, where the nonignorable missingness mechanism is specified by a logistic regression model. The proposed method extends the Bayesian Lasso by allowing different penalization parameters for different regression coefficients. Furthermore, a hybrid algorithm that combined the Gibbs sampler and Metropolis-Hastings algorithm is implemented to simulate the parameters from posterior distributions, mainly including regression coefficients, shrinkage coefficients, parameters in the non-ignorable missing models. Finally, some simulation studies and a real example are used to illustrate the proposed methodology.  相似文献

This paper provides a practical simulation-based Bayesian analysis of parameter-driven models for time series Poisson data with the AR(1) latent process. The posterior distribution is simulated by a Gibbs sampling algorithm. Full conditional posterior distributions of unknown variables in the model are given in convenient forms for the Gibbs sampling algorithm. The case with missing observations is also discussed. The methods are applied to real polio data from 1970 to 1983.  相似文献

Missing data, a common but challenging issue in most studies, may lead to biased and inefficient inferences if handled inappropriately. As a natural and powerful way for dealing with missing data, Bayesian approach has received much attention in the literature. This paper reviews the recent developments and applications of Bayesian methods for dealing with ignorable and non-ignorable missing data. We firstly introduce missing data mechanisms and Bayesian framework for dealing with missing data, and then introduce missing data models under ignorable and non-ignorable missing data circumstances based on the literature. After that, important issues of Bayesian inference, including prior construction, posterior computation, model comparison and sensitivity analysis, are discussed. Finally, several future issues that deserve further research are summarized and concluded.  相似文献

We consider exact and approximate Bayesian computation in the presence of latent variables or missing data. Specifically we explore the application of a posterior predictive distribution formula derived in Sweeting And Kharroubi (2003), which is a particular form of Laplace approximation, both as an importance function and a proposal distribution. We show that this formula provides a stable importance function for use within poor man’s data augmentation schemes and that it can also be used as a proposal distribution within a Metropolis-Hastings algorithm for models that are not analytically tractable. We illustrate both uses in the case of a censored regression model and a normal hierarchical model, with both normal and Student t distributed random effects. Although the predictive distribution formula is motivated by regular asymptotic theory, it is not necessary that the likelihood has a closed form or that it possesses a local maximum.  相似文献

Analyzing incomplete data for inferring the structure of gene regulatory networks (GRNs) is a challenging task in bioinformatic. Bayesian network can be successfully used in this field. k-nearest neighbor, singular value decomposition (SVD)-based and multiple imputation by chained equations are three fundamental imputation methods to deal with missing values. Path consistency (PC) algorithm based on conditional mutual information (PCA–CMI) is a famous algorithm for inferring GRNs. This algorithm needs the data set to be complete. However, the problem is that PCA–CMI is not a stable algorithm and when applied on permuted gene orders, different networks are obtained. We propose an order independent algorithm, PCA–CMI–OI, for inferring GRNs. After imputation of missing data, the performances of PCA–CMI and PCA–CMI–OI are compared. Results show that networks constructed from data imputed by the SVD-based method and PCA–CMI–OI algorithm outperform other imputation methods and PCA–CMI. An undirected or partially directed network is resulted by PC-based algorithms. Mutual information test (MIT) score, which can deal with discrete data, is one of the famous methods for directing the edges of resulted networks. We also propose a new score, ConMIT, which is appropriate for analyzing continuous data. Results shows that the precision of directing the edges of skeleton is improved by applying the ConMIT score.  相似文献

Dealing with incomplete data is a pervasive problem in statistical surveys. Bayesian networks have been recently used in missing data imputation. In this research, we propose a new methodology for the multivariate imputation of missing data using discrete Bayesian networks and conditional Gaussian Bayesian networks. Results from imputing missing values in coronary artery disease data set and milk composition data set as well as a simulation study from cancer-neapolitan network are presented to demonstrate and compare the performance of three Bayesian network-based imputation methods with those of multivariate imputation by chained equations (MICE) and the classical hot-deck imputation method. To assess the effect of the structure learning algorithm on the performance of the Bayesian network-based methods, two methods called Peter-Clark algorithm and greedy search-and-score have been applied. Bayesian network-based methods are: first, the method introduced by Di Zio et al. [Bayesian networks for imputation, J. R. Stat. Soc. Ser. A 167 (2004), 309–322] in which, each missing item of a variable is imputed using the information given in the parents of that variable; second, the method of Di Zio et al. [Multivariate techniques for imputation based on Bayesian networks, Neural Netw. World 15 (2005), 303–310] which uses the information in the Markov blanket set of the variable to be imputed and finally, our new proposed method which applies the whole available knowledge of all variables of interest, consisting the Markov blanket and so the parent set, to impute a missing item. Results indicate the high quality of our new proposed method especially in the presence of high missingness percentages and more connected networks. Also the new method have shown to be more efficient than the MICE method for small sample sizes with high missing rates.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A general Bayesian random effects model for analyzing longitudinal mixed correlated continuous and negative binomial responses with and without missing data is presented. This Bayesian model, given some random effects, uses a normal distribution for the continuous response and a negative binomial distribution for the count response. A Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling algorithm is described for estimating the posterior distribution of the parameters. This Bayesian model is illustrated by a simulation study. For sensitivity analysis to investigate the change of parameter estimates with respect to the perturbation from missing at random to not missing at random assumption, the use of posterior curvature is proposed. The model is applied to a medical data, obtained from an observational study on women, where the correlated responses are the negative binomial response of joint damage and continuous response of body mass index. The simultaneous effects of some covariates on both responses are also investigated.  相似文献

We consider a continuous-time model for the evolution of social networks. A social network is here conceived as a (di-) graph on a set of vertices, representing actors, and the changes of interest are creation and disappearance over time of (arcs) edges in the graph. Hence we model a collection of random edge indicators that are not, in general, independent. We explicitly model the interdependencies between edge indicators that arise from interaction between social entities. A Markov chain is defined in terms of an embedded chain with holding times and transition probabilities. Data are observed at fixed points in time and hence we are not able to observe the embedded chain directly. Introducing a prior distribution for the parameters we may implement an MCMC algorithm for exploring the posterior distribution of the parameters by simulating the evolution of the embedded process between observations.  相似文献

In some fields, we are forced to work with missing data in multivariate time series. Unfortunately, the data analysis in this context cannot be carried out in the same way as in the case of complete data. To deal with this problem, a Bayesian analysis of multivariate threshold autoregressive models with exogenous inputs and missing data is carried out. In this paper, Markov chain Monte Carlo methods are used to obtain samples from the involved posterior distributions, including threshold values and missing data. In order to identify autoregressive orders, we adapt the Bayesian variable selection method in this class of multivariate process. The number of regimes is estimated using marginal likelihood or product parameter-space strategies.  相似文献

Bivariate count data arise in several different disciplines (epidemiology, marketing, sports statistics just to name a few) and the bivariate Poisson distribution being a generalization of the Poisson distribution plays an important role in modelling such data. In the present paper we present a Bayesian estimation approach for the parameters of the bivariate Poisson model and provide the posterior distributions in closed forms. It is shown that the joint posterior distributions are finite mixtures of conditionally independent gamma distributions for which their full form can be easily deduced by a recursively updating scheme. Thus, the need of applying computationally demanding MCMC schemes for Bayesian inference in such models will be removed, since direct sampling from the posterior will become available, even in cases where the posterior distribution of functions of the parameters is not available in closed form. In addition, we define a class of prior distributions that possess an interesting conjugacy property which extends the typical notion of conjugacy, in the sense that both prior and posteriors belong to the same family of finite mixture models but with different number of components. Extension to certain other models including multivariate models or models with other marginal distributions are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper the Bayesian analysis of incomplete categorical data under informative general censoring proposed by Paulino and Pereira (1995) is revisited. That analysis is based on Dirichlet priors and can be applied to any missing data pattern. However, the known properties of the posterior distributions are scarce and therefore severe limitations to the posterior computations remain. Here is shown how a Monte Carlo simulation approach based on an alternative parameterisation can be used to overcome the former computational difficulties. The proposed simulation approach makes available the approximate estimation of general parametric functions and can be implemented in a very straightforward way.  相似文献

This paper explores the use of data augmentation in settings beyond the standard Bayesian one. In particular, we show that, after proposing an appropriate generalised data-augmentation principle, it is possible to extend the range of sampling situations in which fiducial methods can be applied by constructing Markov chains whose stationary distributions represent valid posterior inferences on model parameters. Some properties of these chains are presented and a number of open questions are discussed. We also use the approach to draw out connections between classical and Bayesian approaches in some standard settings.  相似文献

We deal with one-layer feed-forward neural network for the Bayesian analysis of nonlinear time series. Noises are modeled nonlinearly and nonnormally, by means of ARCH models whose parameters are all dependent on a hidden Markov chain. Parameter estimation is performed by sampling from the posterior distribution via Evolutionary Monte Carlo algorithm, in which two new crossover operators have been introduced. Unknown parameters of the model also include the missing values which can occur within the observed series, so, considering future values as missing, it is also possible to compute point and interval multi-step-ahead predictions.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss a fully Bayesian quantile inference using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method for longitudinal data models with random effects. Under the assumption of error term subject to asymmetric Laplace distribution, we establish a hierarchical Bayesian model and obtain the posterior distribution of unknown parameters at τ-th level. We overcome the current computational limitations using two approaches. One is the general MCMC technique with Metropolis–Hastings algorithm and another is the Gibbs sampling from the full conditional distribution. These two methods outperform the traditional frequentist methods under a wide array of simulated data models and are flexible enough to easily accommodate changes in the number of random effects and in their assumed distribution. We apply the Gibbs sampling method to analyse a mouse growth data and some different conclusions from those in the literatures are obtained.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a Bayesian nonparametric approach to the analysis of discrete-time queueing models. The main motivation consists in applications to telecommunications, and in particular to asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) systems. Attention is focused on the posterior distribution of the overflow rate. Since the exact distribution of such a quantity is not available in a closed form, an approximation based on “proper” Bayesian bootstrap is proposed, and its properties are studied. Some possible alternatives to proper Bayesian bootstrap are also discussed. Finally, an application to real data is provided.  相似文献

Existence of missing values is an inseparable part of longitudinal studies in epidemiology, medical and clinical studies. Usually researchers, for simplicity, ignore the missingness mechanism while, ignoring a not at random mechanism may lead to misleading results. In this paper, we use a Bayesian paradigm for fitting selection model of Heckman, which allows the non-ignorable missingness for longitudinal data. Also, we use reversible-jump Markov chain Monte Carlo to allow the model to choose between non-ignorable and ignorable structures for missingness mechanism, and show how the selection can be incorporated. Some simulation studies are performed for illustration of the proposed approach. The approach is also used for analyzing two real data sets.  相似文献

We present an algorithm for multivariate robust Bayesian linear regression with missing data. The iterative algorithm computes an approximative posterior for the model parameters based on the variational Bayes (VB) method. Compared to the EM algorithm, the VB method has the advantage that the variance for the model parameters is also computed directly by the algorithm. We consider three families of Gaussian scale mixture models for the measurements, which include as special cases the multivariate t distribution, the multivariate Laplace distribution, and the contaminated normal model. The observations can contain missing values, assuming that the missing data mechanism can be ignored. A Matlab/Octave implementation of the algorithm is presented and applied to solve three reference examples from the literature.  相似文献

Social network data represent the interactions between a group of social actors. Interactions between colleagues and friendship networks are typical examples of such data. The latent space model for social network data locates each actor in a network in a latent (social) space and models the probability of an interaction between two actors as a function of their locations. The latent position cluster model extends the latent space model to deal with network data in which clusters of actors exist — actor locations are drawn from a finite mixture model, each component of which represents a cluster of actors.A mixture of experts model builds on the structure of a mixture model by taking account of both observations and associated covariates when modeling a heterogeneous population. Herein, a mixture of experts extension of the latent position cluster model is developed. The mixture of experts framework allows covariates to enter the latent position cluster model in a number of ways, yielding different model interpretations.Estimates of the model parameters are derived in a Bayesian framework using a Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithm. The algorithm is generally computationally expensive — surrogate proposal distributions which shadow the target distributions are derived, reducing the computational burden. The methodology is demonstrated through an illustrative example detailing relationships between a group of lawyers in the USA.  相似文献
