Since its introduction by Owen (1988, 1990), the empirical likelihood method has been extensively investigated and widely used to construct confidence regions and to test hypotheses in the literature. For a large class of statistics that can be obtained via solving estimating equations, the empirical likelihood function can be formulated from these estimating equations as proposed by Qin and Lawless (1994). If only a small part of parameters is of interest, a profile empirical likelihood method has to be employed to construct confidence regions, which could be computationally costly. In this article the authors propose a jackknife empirical likelihood method to overcome this computational burden. This proposed method is easy to implement and works well in practice. We propose a new procedure for combining multiple tests in samples of right-censored observations. The new method is based on multiple constrained censored empirical likelihood where the constraints are formulated as linear functionals of the cumulative hazard functions. We prove a version of Wilks’ theorem for the multiple constrained censored empirical likelihood ratio, which provides a simple reference distribution for the test statistic of our proposed method. A useful application of the proposed method is, for example, examining the survival experience of different populations by combining different weighted log-rank tests. Real data examples are given using the log-rank and Gehan-Wilcoxon tests. In a simulation study of two sample survival data, we compare the proposed method of combining tests to previously developed procedures. The results demonstrate that, in addition to its computational simplicity, the combined test performs comparably to, and in some situations more reliably than previously developed procedures. Statistical software is available in the R package ‘emplik’.  相似文献

The empirical likelihood ratio-based semiparametric tests of change-points with epidemic alternatives are constructed and are proved to have the same limiting null distributions as some well-known tests. The maximum empirical likelihood estimates of the change-points and the epidemic duration are shown to be consistent. Data-based model tests are also provided. The method is applied to a stock market price data and the Nile river data.  相似文献

We consider a very general class of empirical-type likelihoods which includes the usual empirical likelihood and all its major variants proposed in the literature. It is known that none of these likelihoods admits a data-free probability matching prior for the highest posterior density region. We develop necessary higher order asymptotics to show that at least for the usual empirical likelihood this difficulty can be resolved if data-dependent priors are entertained. A related problem concerning the equal-tailed two-sided posterior credible region is also investigated. A simulation study is seen to lend support to the theoretical results.  相似文献

It is known that the profile empirical likelihood method based on estimating equations is computationally intensive when the number of nuisance parameters is large. Recently, Li, Peng, & Qi (2011) proposed a jackknife empirical likelihood method for constructing confidence regions for the parameters of interest by estimating the nuisance parameters separately. However, when the estimators for the nuisance parameters have no explicit formula, the computation of the jackknife empirical likelihood method is still intensive. In this paper, an approximate jackknife empirical likelihood method is proposed to reduce the computation in the jackknife empirical likelihood method when the nuisance parameters cannot be estimated explicitly. A simulation study confirms the advantage of the new method. The Canadian Journal of Statistics 40: 110–123; 2012 © 2012 Statistical Society of Canada  相似文献

The weighted likelihood is a generalization of the likelihood designed to borrow strength from similar populations while making minimal assumptions. If the weights are properly chosen, the maximum weighted likelihood estimate may perform better than the maximum likelihood estimate (MLE). In a previous article, the minimum averaged mean squared error (MAMSE) weights are proposed and simulations show that they allow to outperform the MLE in many cases. In this paper, we study the asymptotic properties of the MAMSE weights. In particular, we prove that the MAMSE-weighted mixture of empirical distribution functions converges uniformly to the target distribution and that the maximum weighted likelihood estimate is strongly consistent. A short simulation illustrates the use of bootstrap in this context.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the partial linear model with the covariables missing at random. Empirical likelihood ratios for the regression coefficients and the baseline function are investigated, the empirical log-likelihood ratios are proven to be asymptotically chi-squared and the corresponding confidence regions for the parameters of interest are then constructed. The finite sample behavior of the proposed method is evaluated with simulation and illustrated with an AIDS clinical trial dataset.  相似文献

We extend the empirical likelihood beyond its domain by expanding its contours nested inside the domain with a similarity transformation. The extended empirical likelihood achieves two objectives at the same time: escaping the “convex hull constraint” on the empirical likelihood and improving the coverage accuracy of the empirical likelihood ratio confidence region to $O(n^{-2})$ . The latter is accomplished through a special transformation which matches the extended empirical likelihood with the Bartlett corrected empirical likelihood. The extended empirical likelihood ratio confidence region retains the shape of the original empirical likelihood ratio confidence region. It also accommodates adjustments for dimension and small sample size, giving it good coverage accuracy in large and small sample situations. In this article the author investigates the application of the empirical‐likelihood‐based inference for the parameters of varying‐coefficient single‐index model (VCSIM). Unlike the usual cases, if there is no bias correction the asymptotic distribution of the empirical likelihood ratio cannot achieve the standard chi‐squared distribution. To this end, a bias‐corrected empirical likelihood method is employed to construct the confidence regions (intervals) of regression parameters, which have two advantages, compared with those based on normal approximation, that is, (1) they do not impose prior constraints on the shape of the regions; (2) they do not require the construction of a pivotal quantity and the regions are range preserving and transformation respecting. A simulation study is undertaken to compare the empirical likelihood with the normal approximation in terms of coverage accuracies and average areas/lengths of confidence regions/intervals. A real data example is given to illustrate the proposed approach. The Canadian Journal of Statistics 38: 434–452; 2010 © 2010 Statistical Society of Canada  相似文献

Integer-valued time series models and their applications have attracted a lot of attention over the last years. In this paper, we introduce a class of observation-driven random coefficient integer-valued autoregressive processes based on negative binomial thinning, where the autoregressive parameter depends on the observed values of the previous moment. Basic probability and statistics properties of the process are established. The unknown parameters are estimated by the conditional least squares and empirical likelihood methods. Specially, we consider three aspects of the empirical likelihood method: maximum empirical likelihood estimate, confidence region and EL test. The performance of the two estimation methods is compared through simulation studies. Finally, an application to a real data example is provided.  相似文献

Low income proportion is an important index in comparisons of poverty in countries around the world. The stability of a society depends heavily on this index. An accurate and reliable estimation of this index plays an important role for government's economic policies. In this paper, the authors study empirical likelihood‐based inferences for a low income proportion under the simple random sampling and stratified random sampling designs. It is shown that the limiting distributions of the empirical likelihood ratios for the low income proportion are the scaled chi‐square distributions. The authors propose various empirical likelihood‐based confidence intervals for the low income proportion. Extensive simulation studies are conducted to evaluate the relative performance of the normal approximation‐based interval, bootstrap‐based intervals, and the empirical likelihood‐based intervals. The proposed methods are also applied to analyzing a real economic survey income dataset. The Canadian Journal of Statistics 39: 1–16; 2011 ©2011 Statistical Society of Canada  相似文献

In this paper we use the empirical likelihood method to construct confidence interval for truncation parameter in random truncation model. The empirical log-likelihood ratio is derived and its asymptotic distribution is shown to be a weighted chi-square. Simulation studies are used to compare the confidence intervals based on empirical likelihood and those based on normal approximation. It is found that the empirical likelihood method provides improved confidence interval.  相似文献

Empirical Likelihood for Censored Linear Regression   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
In this paper we investigate the empirical likelihood method in a linear regression model when the observations are subject to random censoring. An empirical likelihood ratio for the slope parameter vector is defined and it is shown that its limiting distribution is a weighted sum of independent chi-square distributions. This reduces to the empirical likelihood to the linear regression model first studied by Owen (1991) if there is no censoring present. Some simulation studies are presented to compare the empirical likelihood method with the normal approximation based method proposed in Lai et al. (1995). It was found that the empirical likelihood method performs much better than the normal approximation method.  相似文献

The study of differences among groups is an interesting statistical topic in many applied fields. It is very common in this context to have data that are subject to mechanisms of loss of information, such as censoring and truncation. In the setting of a two‐sample problem with data subject to left truncation and right censoring, we develop an empirical likelihood method to do inference for the relative distribution. We obtain a nonparametric generalization of Wilks' theorem and construct nonparametric pointwise confidence intervals for the relative distribution. Finally, we analyse the coverage probability and length of these confidence intervals through a simulation study and illustrate their use with a real data set on gastric cancer. Robust estimating equation based on statistical depth   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this paper the estimating equation is constructed via statistical depth. The obtained estimating equation and parameter estimation have desirable robustness, which attain very high breakdown values close to 1/2. At the same time, the obtained parameter estimation still has ordinary asymptotic behaviours such as asymptotic normality. In particular, the robust quasi likelihood and depth-weighted LSE respectively for nonlinear and linear regression model are introduced. A suggestion for choosing weight function and a method of constructing depth-weighed quasi likelihood equation are given. This article concerns the variance estimation in the central limit theorem for finite recurrent Markov chains. The associated variance is calculated in terms of the transition matrix of the Markov chain. We prove the equivalence of different matrix forms representing this variance. The maximum likelihood estimator for this variance is constructed and it is proved that it is strongly consistent and asymptotically normal. The main part of our analysis consists in presenting closed matrix forms for this new variance. Additionally, we prove the asymptotic equivalence between the empirical and the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) for the stationary distribution.  相似文献

Continuous non-Gaussian stationary processes of the OU-type are becoming increasingly popular given their flexibility in modelling stylized features of financial series such as asymmetry, heavy tails and jumps. The use of non-Gaussian marginal distributions makes likelihood analysis of these processes unfeasible for virtually all cases of interest. This paper exploits the self-decomposability of the marginal laws of OU processes to provide explicit expressions of the characteristic function which can be applied to several models as well as to develop efficient estimation techniques based on the empirical characteristic function. Extensions to OU-based stochastic volatility models are provided.  相似文献

The authors study the empirical likelihood method for linear regression models. They show that when missing responses are imputed using least squares predictors, the empirical log‐likelihood ratio is asymptotically a weighted sum of chi‐square variables with unknown weights. They obtain an adjusted empirical log‐likelihood ratio which is asymptotically standard chi‐square and hence can be used to construct confidence regions. They also obtain a bootstrap empirical log‐likelihood ratio and use its distribution to approximate that of the empirical log‐likelihood ratio. A simulation study indicates that the proposed methods are comparable in terms of coverage probabilities and average lengths of confidence intervals, and perform better than a normal approximation based method.  相似文献

It is illustrated in this paper that hypothesis testing procedures can be derived based on the penalized likelihood approach. Based on this point of view, many traditional hypothesis tests, including the two-sample mean test, score test, and Hotelling’s T2 test are revisited under the penalized likelihood framework. Similar framework is also applicable to the empirical likelihood.  相似文献

This paper studies the problem of convex hull constraint in conventional empirical likelihood. Specifically, in the framework of regression, a balanced augmented empirical likelihood (BAEL) procedure through adding two synthetic data points is proposed. It can be used to resolve the under-coverage issue, especially in small-sample or high-dimension setting. Furthermore, some asymptotic properties for proposed BAEL ratio statistic are established under mild conditions. The proposed approach performs robust to different random errors by choosing a robust loss function. Extensive simulation studies and a real example are carried out to support our results.  相似文献
