Consider an incomplete block experiment in which observations are taken from t treatments using an incomplete block design with b blocks of size k < t. Suppose the interest is in estimating the differences of effects of successive treatments. This may occur, for example, if the treatments are different dosages or concentrations of a compound. This article presents A-optimal and MV-optimal incomplete block designs for estimating the the differences of successive treatment effects. Tables of optimal designs are given for k < t ≤ 5 with b ≤ 40.  相似文献

Factor screening designs for searching two and three effective factors using the search linear model are discussed. The construction of such factor screening designs involved finding a fraction with small number of treatments of a 2m factorial experiment having the property P2t (no 2t columns are linearly dependent) for t=2 and 3. A ‘Packing Problem’ is introduced in this connection. A complete solution of the problem in one case and partial solutions for the other cases are presented. ABSTRACT

Optimal main effects plans (MEPs) and optimal foldover designs can often be performed as a series of nested optimal designs. Then, if the experiment cannot be completed due to time or budget constraints, the fraction already performed may still be an optimal design. We show that the optimal MEP for 4t factors in 4t + 4 points does not contain the optimal MEP for 4t factors in 4t + 2 points nested within it. In general, the optimal MEP for 4t factors in 4t + 4 points does not contain the optimal MEPs for 4t factors in 4t + 1, 4t + 2, or 4t + 3 points and the optimal MEP for 4t + 1 factors in 4t + 4 points does not contain the optimal MEPs for 4t + 1 factors in 4t + 2 or 4t + 3 points. We also show that the runs in an orthogonal design for 4t factors in 4t + 4 points, and the optimal foldover designs obtained by folding, should be performed in a certain sequence in order to avoid the possibility of a singular X'X matrix.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper the problem of finding exactly optimal sampling designs for estimating the weighted integral of a stochastic process with a product covariance structure (R(s,t)=u(s)v(t), s<t) is discussed. The sampling designs for certain standard processes belonging to the product class are calculated. An asymptotic solution to the design problem also follows as a consequence.  相似文献

Using a new method we construct all 17 remaining (unresolved for over 20 years) full orthogonal designs of order 40 in three variables. This implies that all full orthogonal designs OD(2t5;x,y, 2t5−xy) exist for all t⩾3. The last two remaining orthogonal designs of order 40 in 2 variables are obtained as a special case of two of these designs.  相似文献

Crossover designs, or repeated measurements designs, are used for experiments in which t treatments are applied to each of n experimental units successively over p time periods. Such experiments are widely used in areas such as clinical trials, experimental psychology and agricultural field trials. In addition to the direct effect on the response of the treatment in the period of application, there is also the possible presence of a residual, or carry-over, effect of a treatment from one or more previous periods. We use a model in which the residual effect from a treatment depends upon the treatment applied in the succeeding period; that is, a model which includes interactions between the treatment direct and residual effects. We assume that residual effects do not persist further than one succeeding period.A particular class of strongly balanced repeated measurements designs with n=t2 units and which are uniform on the periods is examined. A lower bound for the A-efficiency of the designs for estimating the direct effects is derived and it is shown that such designs are highly efficient for any number of periods p=2,…,2t.  相似文献

We study the problem of approximating a stochastic process Y = {Y(t: tT} with known and continuous covariance function R on the basis of finitely many observations Y(t 1,), …, Y(t n ). Dependent on the knowledge about the mean function, we use different approximations ? and measure their performance by the corresponding maximum mean squared error sub t∈T E(Y(t) ? ?(t))2. For a compact T ? ? p we prove sufficient conditions for the existence of optimal designs. For the class of covariance functions on T 2 = [0, 1]2 which satisfy generalized Sacks/Ylvisaker regularity conditions of order zero or are of product type, we construct sequences of designs for which the proposed approximations perform asymptotically optimal.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Neighbor designs are recommended for the cases where the performance of treatment is affected by the neighboring treatments as in biometrics and agriculture. In this paper we have constructed two new series of non binary partially neighbor balanced designs for v = 2n and v = 2n+1 number of treatments, respectively. The blocks in the design are non binary and circular but no treatment is ever a neighbor to itself. The designs proposed here are partially balanced in terms of nearest neighbors. In this paper, we consider experimental situations in which it is desired to optimally compare t-test treatments to s standard treatments using a block design in which the experimental units are arranged in b blocks of size k. A method is given for generating an MV-optimal block design for such situations and sufficient conditions are derived which can often be used to establish the MV-optimality of reinforced group divisible designs which are often obtained using the process given.  相似文献

A generalized neighbor design relaxes the equality condition on the number of times two treatments occur as neighbors in the design. In this article we have constructed a new series of generalized neighbor designs with equal block sizes, a series of neighbor designs of Rees [1967. Some designs of use in serology. Biometrics 23, 779–791] and a series of neighbor designs with two distinct block sizes. Two more new series of GN2 designs are also constructed for even number of treatments. It has been shown that quasi neighbor designs introduced by Preece [1994. Balanced Ouchterlony neighbor designs. J. Combin. Math. Combin. Comput. 15, 197–219] are special cases of generalized neighbor designs with t=2t=2. All the designs given here are binary. A new definition—partially balanced circuit design is introduced which is a special case of generalized neighbor designs with binary blocks.  相似文献

Polygonal designs are useful in survey sampling in terms of balanced sampling plans excluding contiguous units (BSECs) and balanced sampling plans excluding adjacent units (BSAs). In this article, the method of cyclic shifts has been used for the construction of cyclic polygonal designs (in terms of BSAs) with block size k = 3 and λ = 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 for joint distance α = 2 and 51 new designs for treatments v ≤ 100 are given.  相似文献

A new general class of m-class cyclic association scheme is defined for v treatments, where v is a composite number. A simple method of construction of PBIB designs having this association scheme using more than one initial block and some methods using only one initial block are proposed. A complete analysis of this type of PBIB designs is given. Also given is a list of 39 useful PBIB designs of this type having v≤15 and r≤10 and having only three associate classes together with their efficiency factors for all types of comparisons and over all efficiency factors.  相似文献

The effects of missing observations in a designed experiment are reviewed. Conditions are determined for a design to retain equal information, i.e. the same generalized variance of unknown parameters, when either any single or any pair of observations is lost. Some examples of designs with this property are given. Although there are many designs which retain equal information for the loss of exactly t observations, where t = 1,2,3,…, it is shown that it is not possible to obtain any design which retains equal information when any one and any two and also any three observations are missing.  相似文献

By a family of designs we mean a set of designs whose parameters can be represented as functions of an auxiliary variable t where the design will exist for infinitely many values of t. The best known family is probably the family of finite projective planes with υ = b = t2 + t + 1, r = k = t + 1, and λ = 1. In some instances, notably coding theory, the existence of families is essential to provide the degree of precision required which can well vary from one coding problem to another. A natural vehicle for developing binary codes is the class of Hadamard matrices. Bush (1977) introduced the idea of constructing semi-regular designs using Hadamard matrices whereas the present study is concerned mostly with construction of regular designs using Hadamard matrices. While codes constructed from these designs are not optimal in the usual sense, it is possible that they may still have substantial value since, with different values of λ1 and λ2, there are different error correcting capabilities.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this study, methods for efficient construction of A-, MV-, D- and E-optimal or near-optimal block designs for two-colour cDNA microarray experiments with array as the block effect are considered. Two algorithms, namely the array exchange and treatment exchange algorithms together with the complete enumeration technique are introduced. For large numbers of arrays or treatments or both, the complete enumeration method is highly computer intensive. The treatment exchange algorithm computes the optimal or near-optimal designs faster than the array exchange algorithm. The two methods however produce optimal or near-optimal designs with the same efficiency under the four optimality criteria.  相似文献

It is shown that the minimal covering designs for v=6t+5 treatments in blocks of size 3 are optimal w.r.t. a large class of optimality criteria. This class of optimality criteria includes the well-known criteria of A-, D- and E-optimality. It is conjectured that these designs are also optimal w.r.t. other criteria suggested by Takeuchi (1961).  相似文献
