We present the upper non positive bounds on the expectations of gOSs centered about the sample mean, which are based on the parent distributions with decreasing density and decreasing density on average distributions. Such bounds can be obtained only for particular cases of gOSs and they are expressed in units generated by the central absolute moments of a fixed order. The attainability conditions are also described. The method of deriving presented bounds is based on the maximization of appropriate norms over properly chosen convex sets. The paper complements the results of Bieniek [J. Statist. Plann. Inference, 2008; 138:971–981].  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Upper and lower bounds for moments of progressively Type II censored order statistics in terms of moments of (progressively Type II censored) order statistics are derived. In particular, this yields conditions for the existence of moments of progressively Type II censored order statistics based on an absolutely continuous distribution function.  相似文献

In this article, by using the dropping argument, a general recurrence relation satisfied by the joint cumulative distribution functions of order statistics from any arbitrary bivariate distribution function is established. This recurrence relation is the first bivariate version of the basic triangle rule for order statistics arisen from univariate distribution function. Finally, this relation is extended to the trivariate case. These lead to similar identities for product moments (of any order) of order statistics.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the generalized exponential distribution (GED) with shape parameter α. We establish several recurrence relations satisfied by the single and the product moments for order statistics from the GED. The relationships can be written in terms of polygamma and hypergeometric functions and used in a simple recursive manner in order to compute the single and the product moments of all order statistics for all sample sizes.  相似文献

Certain recurrence relations for the moments of different orders of the largest order statistic from a gamma distribution with shape parameter p are obtained. By using this it is shown that for obtaining the moment of any order of each order statistic of a sample of size n from the gamma distribution, one has to evaluate at most n-2 single integrals.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to derive the exact forms of the p.d.f. and the moments of the rth order statistics in a sample of size n from the Log-logistic (Ll ) distribution. Measures of skewness and kurtosis are tabulated. The recurrence relations between the moments of all order statistics and an expression of the covariance between any two order statistics, xi and xjand the distribution of the ratio of Xi to xj are derived.  相似文献

Here we consider a more flexible class of the additive Weibull distribution of Xie and Lai (Reliab. Eng. Syst. Safety, 1995) and investigate some of its important properties such as expressions for its cumulative distribution function, reliability measures, quantile function, characteristic function, raw moments, incomplete moments, etc. The distribution and moments of order statistics are obtained along with certain structural properties. The maximum-likelihood estimation of the parameters of the distribution is attempted and the usefulness of the model in certain applied areas is illustrated with the help of certain real life data sets.  相似文献

Kumaraswamy [Generalized probability density-function for double-bounded random-processes, J. Hydrol. 462 (1980), pp. 79–88] introduced a distribution for double-bounded random processes with hydrological applications. For the first time, based on this distribution, we describe a new family of generalized distributions (denoted with the prefix ‘Kw’) to extend the normal, Weibull, gamma, Gumbel, inverse Gaussian distributions, among several well-known distributions. Some special distributions in the new family such as the Kw-normal, Kw-Weibull, Kw-gamma, Kw-Gumbel and Kw-inverse Gaussian distribution are discussed. We express the ordinary moments of any Kw generalized distribution as linear functions of probability weighted moments (PWMs) of the parent distribution. We also obtain the ordinary moments of order statistics as functions of PWMs of the baseline distribution. We use the method of maximum likelihood to fit the distributions in the new class and illustrate the potentiality of the new model with an application to real data.  相似文献

Certain recurrence relations for the single and product moments of the order statistics of a random sample of sizen arising from a beta distribution are derived. The usefulness of these relations in evaluating the single and product moments of beta order statistics is also discussed.  相似文献

Improved lower hounds are obtained for two parameters μ(F) and λ(F) which occur in the moments of linear rank statistics studied by Doksum, Hollander, Lehmann and Hsu. IT is shown that if F is a continuous distribution, then μ(F) > 3/10 and λ(F) >= 89/315 - 0.28254. These results decrease the range of possible values of μ(F) and λ(F) by more than 84% and 34%, respectively, over those previously reported.  相似文献

In this paper a measure of proximity of distributions, when moments are known, is proposed. Based on cases where the exact distribution is known, evidence is given that the proposed measure is accurate to evaluate the proximity of quantiles (exact vs. approximated). The measure may be applied to compare asymptotic and near-exact approximations to distributions, in situations where although being known the exact moments, the exact distribution is not known or the expression for its probability density function is not known or too complicated to handle. In this paper the measure is applied to compare newly proposed asymptotic and near-exact approximations to the distribution of the Wilks Lambda statistic when both groups of variables have an odd number of variables. This measure is also applied to the study of several cases of telescopic near-exact approximations to the exact distribution of the Wilks Lambda statistic based on mixtures of generalized near-integer gamma distributions.  相似文献

The standard two-sided power distribution is a flexible distribution having uniform, power function and triangular as subdistributions, and it is a reasonable alternative to the Laplace distribution in some cases. In this work, computationally efficient expressions for moments of order statistics, expressions for L-moments, and asymptotic results for sample extrema are derived. Then a simulation study is performed for the location-scale estimation problem of a small data set by considering the maximum likelihood estimation method and the best linear unbiased estimation method based on the moments of order statistics.  相似文献

Apart from having intrinsic mathematical interest, order statistics are also useful in the solution of many applied sampling and analysis problems. For a general review of the properties and uses of order statistics, see David (1981). This paper provides tabulations of means and variances of certain order statistics from the gamma distribution, for parameter values not previously available. The work was motivated by a particular quota sampling problem, for which existing tables are not adequate. The solution to this sampling problem actually requires the moments of the highest order statistic within a given set; however the calculation algorithm used involves a recurrence relation, which causes all the lower order statistics to be calculated first. Therefore we took the opportunity to develop more extensive tables for the gamma order statistic moments in general. Our tables provide values for the order statistic moments which were not available in previous tables, notably those for higher values of m, the gamma distribution shape parameter. However we have also retained the corresponding statistics for lower values of m, first to allow for checking accuracy of the computtions agtainst previous tables, and second to provide an integrated presentation of our new results with the previously known values in a consistent format  相似文献

In this article, we investigate the potential usefulness of the three-parameter transmuted Weibull distribution for modeling survival data. The main advantage of this distribution is that it has increasing, decreasing or constant instantaneous failure rate depending on the shape parameter and the new transmuting parameter. We obtain several mathematical properties of the transmuted Weibull distribution such as the expressions for the quantile function, moments, geometric mean, harmonic mean, Shannon, Rényi and q-entropies, mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, and the moments of order statistics. We propose a location-scale regression model based on the log-transmuted Weibull distribution for modeling lifetime data. Applications to two real datasets are given to illustrate the flexibility and potentiality of the transmuted Weibull family of lifetime distributions.  相似文献

A relation satisfied by the product moments of order statistics from an arbitrary continuous distribution symmetric about the origin has been established in this paper. We have shown that in such a situation, for samples of even size, sum of the sub-diagonal product moments of order statistics with alternating plus and minus signs assumes a compact form.  相似文献

Parameter estimation of the generalized Pareto distribution—Part II   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This is the second part of a paper which focuses on reviewing methods for estimating the parameters of the generalized Pareto distribution (GPD). The GPD is a very important distribution in the extreme value context. It is commonly used for modeling the observations that exceed very high thresholds. The ultimate success of the GPD in applications evidently depends on the parameter estimation process. Quite a few methods exist in the literature for estimating the GPD parameters. Estimation procedures, such as the maximum likelihood (ML), the method of moments (MOM) and the probability weighted moments (PWM) method were described in Part I of the paper. We shall continue to review methods for estimating the GPD parameters, in particular methods that are robust and procedures that use the Bayesian methodology. As in Part I, we shall focus on those that are relatively simple and straightforward to be applied to real world data.  相似文献

In this paper, we have derived exact and explicit expressions for the ratio and inverse moments of dual generalized order statistics from Topp-Leone distribution. This result includes the single and product moments of order statistics and lower records . Further, based on n dual generalized order statistics, we have deduced the expression for Maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) and Uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator (UMVUE) for the shape parameter of Topp-Leone distribution. Finally, based on order statistics and lower records, a simulation study is being carried out to check the efficiency of these estimators.  相似文献

In the present article, the general distribution theory of Morgenstern type bivariate gamma distribution and the properties of the concomitants of order statistics from it are discussed. Estimation for the parameters of the distribution using the concomitants and method of moments are proposed and their properties are presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an extension of the Gompertz-Makeham distribution. This distribution is called the transmuted Gompertz-Makeham (TGM). The new model which can handle bathtub-shaped, increasing, increasing-constant and constant hazard rate functions. This property makes TGM is useful in survival analysis. Various statistical and reliability measures of the model are obtained, including hazard rate function, moments, moment generating function (mgf), quantile function, random number generating, skewness, kurtosis, conditional moments, mean deviations, Bonferroni curve, Lorenz curve, Gini index, mean inactivity time, mean residual lifetime and stochastic ordering; we also obtain the density of the ith order statistic. Estimation of the model parameters is justified by the method of maximum likelihood. An application to real data demonstrates that the TGM distribution can provides a better fit than some other very well known distributions.  相似文献
