Longitudinal data are commonly modeled with the normal mixed-effects models. Most modeling methods are based on traditional mean regression, which results in non robust estimation when suffering extreme values or outliers. Median regression is also not a best choice to estimation especially for non normal errors. Compared to conventional modeling methods, composite quantile regression can provide robust estimation results even for non normal errors. In this paper, based on a so-called pseudo composite asymmetric Laplace distribution (PCALD), we develop a Bayesian treatment to composite quantile regression for mixed-effects models. Furthermore, with the location-scale mixture representation of the PCALD, we establish a Bayesian hierarchical model and achieve the posterior inference of all unknown parameters and latent variables using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method. Finally, this newly developed procedure is illustrated by some Monte Carlo simulations and a case analysis of HIV/AIDS clinical data set.  相似文献

A problem of estimating regression coefficients is considered when the distribution of error terms is unknown but symmetric. We propose the use of reference distributions having various kurtosis values. It is assumed that the true error distribution is one of the reference distributions, but the indicator variable for the true distribution is missing. The generalized expectation–maximization algorithm combined with a line search is developed for estimating regression coefficients. Simulation experiments are carried out to compare the performance of the proposed approach with some existing robust regression methods including least absolute deviation, Lp, Huber M regression and an approximation using normal mixtures under various error distributions. As the error distribution is far from a normal distribution, the proposed method is observed to show better performance than other methods.  相似文献

In this article, we develop a Bayesian analysis in autoregressive model with explanatory variables. When σ2 is known, we consider a normal prior and give the Bayesian estimator for the regression coefficients of the model. For the case σ2 is unknown, another Bayesian estimator is given for all unknown parameters under a conjugate prior. Bayesian model selection problem is also being considered under the double-exponential priors. By the convergence of ρ-mixing sequence, the consistency and asymptotic normality of the Bayesian estimators of the regression coefficients are proved. Simulation results indicate that our Bayesian estimators are not strongly dependent on the priors, and are robust.

Summary. The paper focuses on a Bayesian treatment of measurement error problems and on the question of the specification of the prior distribution of the unknown covariates. It presents a flexible semiparametric model for this distribution based on a mixture of normal distributions with an unknown number of components. Implementation of this prior model as part of a full Bayesian analysis of measurement error problems is described in classical set-ups that are encountered in epidemiological studies: logistic regression between unknown covariates and outcome, with a normal or log-normal error model and a validation group. The feasibility of this combined model is tested and its performance is demonstrated in a simulation study that includes an assessment of the influence of misspecification of the prior distribution of the unknown covariates and a comparison with the semiparametric maximum likelihood method of Roeder, Carroll and Lindsay. Finally, the methodology is illustrated on a data set on coronary heart disease and cholesterol levels in blood.  相似文献

A Bayesian method of estimating an unknown regression curve by a polynomial of random order is proposed. A joint distribution is assigned over both the set of possible orders of the polynomial and the polynomial coefficients. Reversible jumps Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) (Green, Biometrika 82 (1995) 711-32), are used to compute required posteriors. The methodology is extended to polynomials of random order with discontinuities and to piecewise polynomials of random order to handle wiggly curves. The effectiveness of the methodology is illustrated with a number of examples.  相似文献

This paper presents a method for Bayesian inference for the regression parameters in a linear model with independent and identically distributed errors that does not require the specification of a parametric family of densities for the error distribution. This method first selects a nonparametric kernel density estimate of the error distribution which is unimodal and based on the least-squares residuals. Once the error distribution is selected, the Metropolis algorithm is used to obtain the marginal posterior distribution of the regression parameters. The methodology is illustrated with data sets, and its performance relative to standard Bayesian techniques is evaluated using simulation results.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Nowadays, generalized linear models have many applications. Some of these models which have more applications in the real world are the models with random effects; that is, some of the unknown parameters are considered random variables. In this article, this situation is considered in logistic regression models with a random intercept having exponential distribution. The aim is to obtain the Bayesian D-optimal design; thus, the method is to maximize the Bayesian D-optimal criterion. For the model was considered here, this criterion is a function of the quasi-information matrix that depends on the unknown parameters of the model. In the Bayesian D-optimal criterion, the expectation is acquired in respect of the prior distributions that are considered for the unknown parameters. Thus, it will only be a function of experimental settings (support points) and their weights. The prior distribution of the fixed parameters is considered uniform and normal. The Bayesian D-optimal design is finally calculated numerically by R3.1.1 software.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss a fully Bayesian quantile inference using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method for longitudinal data models with random effects. Under the assumption of error term subject to asymmetric Laplace distribution, we establish a hierarchical Bayesian model and obtain the posterior distribution of unknown parameters at τ-th level. We overcome the current computational limitations using two approaches. One is the general MCMC technique with Metropolis–Hastings algorithm and another is the Gibbs sampling from the full conditional distribution. These two methods outperform the traditional frequentist methods under a wide array of simulated data models and are flexible enough to easily accommodate changes in the number of random effects and in their assumed distribution. We apply the Gibbs sampling method to analyse a mouse growth data and some different conclusions from those in the literatures are obtained.  相似文献

The lasso is a popular technique of simultaneous estimation and variable selection in many research areas. The marginal posterior mode of the regression coefficients is equivalent to estimates given by the non-Bayesian lasso when the regression coefficients have independent Laplace priors. Because of its flexibility of statistical inferences, the Bayesian approach is attracting a growing body of research in recent years. Current approaches are primarily to either do a fully Bayesian analysis using Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm or use Monte Carlo expectation maximization (MCEM) methods with an MCMC algorithm in each E-step. However, MCMC-based Bayesian method has much computational burden and slow convergence. Tan et al. [An efficient MCEM algorithm for fitting generalized linear mixed models for correlated binary data. J Stat Comput Simul. 2007;77:929–943] proposed a non-iterative sampling approach, the inverse Bayes formula (IBF) sampler, for computing posteriors of a hierarchical model in the structure of MCEM. Motivated by their paper, we develop this IBF sampler in the structure of MCEM to give the marginal posterior mode of the regression coefficients for the Bayesian lasso, by adjusting the weights of importance sampling, when the full conditional distribution is not explicit. Simulation experiments show that the computational time is much reduced with our method based on the expectation maximization algorithm and our algorithms and our methods behave comparably with other Bayesian lasso methods not only in prediction accuracy but also in variable selection accuracy and even better especially when the sample size is relatively large.  相似文献

This paper presents a new Bayesian, infinite mixture model based, clustering approach, specifically designed for time-course microarray data. The problem is to group together genes which have “similar” expression profiles, given the set of noisy measurements of their expression levels over a specific time interval. In order to capture temporal variations of each curve, a non-parametric regression approach is used. Each expression profile is expanded over a set of basis functions and the sets of coefficients of each curve are subsequently modeled through a Bayesian infinite mixture of Gaussian distributions. Therefore, the task of finding clusters of genes with similar expression profiles is then reduced to the problem of grouping together genes whose coefficients are sampled from the same distribution in the mixture. Dirichlet processes prior is naturally employed in such kinds of models, since it allows one to deal automatically with the uncertainty about the number of clusters. The posterior inference is carried out by a split and merge MCMC sampling scheme which integrates out parameters of the component distributions and updates only the latent vector of the cluster membership. The final configuration is obtained via the maximum a posteriori estimator. The performance of the method is studied using synthetic and real microarray data and is compared with the performances of competitive techniques.  相似文献

The maximum likelihood and Bayesian approaches for parameter estimations and prediction of future record values have been considered for the two-parameter Burr Type XII distribution based on record values with the number of trials following the record values (inter-record times). Firstly, the Bayes estimates are obtained based on a joint bivariate prior for the shape parameters. In this case, the Bayes estimates of the parameters have been developed by using Lindley's approximation and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method due to the lack of explicit forms under the squared error and the linear-exponential loss functions. The MCMC method has been also used to construct the highest posterior density credible intervals. Secondly, the Bayes estimates are obtained with respect to a discrete prior for the first shape parameter and a conjugate prior for other shape parameter. The Bayes and the maximum likelihood estimates are compared in terms of the estimated risk by the Monte Carlo simulations. We further consider the non-Bayesian and Bayesian prediction for future lower record arising from the Burr Type XII distribution based on record data. The comparison of the derived predictors is carried out by using Monte Carlo simulations. A real data are analysed for illustration purposes.  相似文献

In this note the problem of nonparametric regression function estimation in a random design regression model with Gaussian errors is considered from the Bayesian perspective. It is assumed that the regression function belongs to a class of functions with a known degree of smoothness. A prior distribution on the given class can be induced by a prior on the coefficients in a series expansion of the regression function through an orthonormal system. The rate of convergence of the resulting posterior distribution is employed to provide a measure of the accuracy of the Bayesian estimation procedure defined by the posterior expected regression function. We show that the Bayes’ estimator achieves the optimal minimax rate of convergence under mean integrated squared error over the involved class of regression functions, thus being comparable to other popular frequentist regression estimators.  相似文献

This paper presents the Bayesian analysis of a semiparametric regression model that consists of parametric and nonparametric components. The nonparametric component is represented with a Fourier series where the Fourier coefficients are assumed a priori to have zero means and to decay to 0 in probability at either algebraic or geometric rates. The rate of decay controls the smoothness of the response function. The posterior analysis automatically selects the amount of smoothing that is coherent with the model and data. Posterior probabilities of the parametric and semiparametric models provide a method for testing the parametric model against a non-specific alternative. The Bayes estimator's mean integrated squared error compares favourably with the theoretically optimal estimator for kernel regression.  相似文献

Our article presents a general treatment of the linear regression model, in which the error distribution is modelled nonparametrically and the error variances may be heteroscedastic, thus eliminating the need to transform the dependent variable in many data sets. The mean and variance components of the model may be either parametric or nonparametric, with parsimony achieved through variable selection and model averaging. A Bayesian approach is used for inference with priors that are data-based so that estimation can be carried out automatically with minimal input by the user. A Dirichlet process mixture prior is used to model the error distribution nonparametrically; when there are no regressors in the model, the method reduces to Bayesian density estimation, and we show that in this case the estimator compares favourably with a well-regarded plug-in density estimator. We also consider a method for checking the fit of the full model. The methodology is applied to a number of simulated and real examples and is shown to work well.  相似文献

Due to the escalating growth of big data sets in recent years, new Bayesian Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) parallel computing methods have been developed. These methods partition large data sets by observations into subsets. However, for Bayesian nested hierarchical models, typically only a few parameters are common for the full data set, with most parameters being group specific. Thus, parallel Bayesian MCMC methods that take into account the structure of the model and split the full data set by groups rather than by observations are a more natural approach for analysis. Here, we adapt and extend a recently introduced two-stage Bayesian hierarchical modeling approach, and we partition complete data sets by groups. In stage 1, the group-specific parameters are estimated independently in parallel. The stage 1 posteriors are used as proposal distributions in stage 2, where the target distribution is the full model. Using three-level and four-level models, we show in both simulation and real data studies that results of our method agree closely with the full data analysis, with greatly increased MCMC efficiency and greatly reduced computation times. The advantages of our method versus existing parallel MCMC computing methods are also described.  相似文献

The authors consider the problem of Bayesian variable selection for proportional hazards regression models with right censored data. They propose a semi-parametric approach in which a nonparametric prior is specified for the baseline hazard rate and a fully parametric prior is specified for the regression coefficients. For the baseline hazard, they use a discrete gamma process prior, and for the regression coefficients and the model space, they propose a semi-automatic parametric informative prior specification that focuses on the observables rather than the parameters. To implement the methodology, they propose a Markov chain Monte Carlo method to compute the posterior model probabilities. Examples using simulated and real data are given to demonstrate the methodology.  相似文献

We generalize Wedderburn's (1974) notion of quasi-likelihood to define a quasi-Bayesian approach for nonlinear estimation problems by allowing the full distributional assumptions about the random component in the classical Bayesian approach to be replaced by much weaker assumptions in which only the first and second moments of the prior distribution are specified. The formulas given are based on the Gauss-Newton estimating procedure and require only the first and second moments of the distributions involved. The use of GLIM package to solve for the estimation problems considered is discussed. Applications are made to estimation problems in inverse linear regression, regression models with both variables subject to error and also to the estimation of the size of animal populations. Some numerical illustrations are reported. For the inverse linear regression problem, comparisons with ordinary Bayesianand other techniques are considered.  相似文献

Quantile regression, including median regression, as a more completed statistical model than mean regression, is now well known with its wide spread applications. Bayesian inference on quantile regression or Bayesian quantile regression has attracted much interest recently. Most of the existing researches in Bayesian quantile regression focus on parametric quantile regression, though there are discussions on different ways of modeling the model error by a parametric distribution named asymmetric Laplace distribution or by a nonparametric alternative named scale mixture asymmetric Laplace distribution. This paper discusses Bayesian inference for nonparametric quantile regression. This general approach fits quantile regression curves using piecewise polynomial functions with an unknown number of knots at unknown locations, all treated as parameters to be inferred through reversible jump Markov chain Monte Carlo (RJMCMC) of Green (Biometrika 82:711–732, 1995). Instead of drawing samples from the posterior, we use regression quantiles to create Markov chains for the estimation of the quantile curves. We also use approximate Bayesian factor in the inference. This method extends the work in automatic Bayesian mean curve fitting to quantile regression. Numerical results show that this Bayesian quantile smoothing technique is competitive with quantile regression/smoothing splines of He and Ng (Comput. Stat. 14:315–337, 1999) and P-splines (penalized splines) of Eilers and de Menezes (Bioinformatics 21(7):1146–1153, 2005).  相似文献

This paper presents a Bayesian analysis of partially linear additive models for quantile regression. We develop a semiparametric Bayesian approach to quantile regression models using a spectral representation of the nonparametric regression functions and the Dirichlet process (DP) mixture for error distribution. We also consider Bayesian variable selection procedures for both parametric and nonparametric components in a partially linear additive model structure based on the Bayesian shrinkage priors via a stochastic search algorithm. Based on the proposed Bayesian semiparametric additive quantile regression model referred to as BSAQ, the Bayesian inference is considered for estimation and model selection. For the posterior computation, we design a simple and efficient Gibbs sampler based on a location-scale mixture of exponential and normal distributions for an asymmetric Laplace distribution, which facilitates the commonly used collapsed Gibbs sampling algorithms for the DP mixture models. Additionally, we discuss the asymptotic property of the sempiparametric quantile regression model in terms of consistency of posterior distribution. Simulation studies and real data application examples illustrate the proposed method and compare it with Bayesian quantile regression methods in the literature.  相似文献
