Supervision with volunteers in social workWhat have professional supervisors to consider when working with volunteers? Professional supervision with volunteers involves a basic tension. It can be regarded as a specific field where volunteer and professional ?cultures“ meet together — sometimes even collide. Common concepts of supervision with professionals cannot be transferred one-to-one in the work with volunteers. We have to consider the specific features of the field as well as methodical strategies and supervisory role-taking. The author reflects on the fundamental characteristics of volunteer work, the basic motivation of those who are engaged in it, their specific group-mentality and applies this to the setting of supervision.  相似文献

Reflection on professional practices? Yes, but how? An empirical study on Supervision in academic education at Universities for Social Work in Germany Supervision today is a common element of the studies of Social Work nowadays. The question of what should be the contents and aims of learning in relation to supervision vary however. Often supervision in academic education is an appendix of a more theory based curriculum, or it is a central hinge between theory and practice. The members of the teaching stuff are often internal lecturers without special skills in relation to supervision, or otherwise they are trained supervisors without skills in relation to the application of social work The payment for external supervisors often considerably falls short of the market prices. Empirical studies on the impact of supervision in relation to the development of professional skills for the social practices of social work and the professional identity are missing.  相似文献

While supervision is well established in the formation of consultants and psychotherapists, it is seldom offered in trainer formation. Recent research on the behavior and cognition of experts in complex dynamic domains suggests that trainers widely use implicit knowledge structures for their professional activities. These structures, however, are not necessarily accessible to conscious reflection. Supervision respectively coaching supports changes of such implicit knowledge structures and also supports the development of professional expertise. It is recommended to implement such support and counseling as an obligatory requirement in the formation of trainers.  相似文献

This paper explores the challenges and opportunities facing educators who wish to facilitate management students’ identity construction as a means to foster their students’ emergent professional identities and post-graduate career attainments. We look to medical and law schools’ recent advancements, alongside their traditional dissemination of knowledge and technical skills, in better aligning students’ developing identities and related behaviors with respective professional ideals. Drawing on insights from these professional schools, we examine whether the concept of “professional virtues” that’s proven valuable in these contexts might also be used to facilitate students’ professional identity construction within management education.  相似文献

Supervision in the context of social changes In view of institutional changes in the working areas of supervision, increased competition amongst advisory concepts, cuts in further education budgets and great efforts at laying the theoretical and conceptual foundations for professional supervision, I cannot but raise the following question anew: Which questions, goals and learning processes are involved in supervision and who introduces them in the first place? Depending on how it is envisaged, there can be fundamentally varying standards for evaluating the role or significance of supervision. It cannot be taken for granted that experts, the institutional interests of supervision cost providers and the needs of the supervised follow one and the same guiding principle or action-related maxim. Differences and common points alike have to be elicited and utilized for a well-founded, professional understanding of supervision — therein lies the object of my research project on the role of supervision in current working processes.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to investigate attitudes toward suicide and suicide prevention among psychology students in Ghana by means of a qualitative analysis of open-ended questions about causes of suicide and how suicide best can be prevented. The students mainly saw the causes as intra-personal and almost all of them believed that suicide can be prevented. The results indicated a huge impact of religion on the attitudes toward suicide as well as some lack of distinction between their religious and professional roles and responsibilities.  相似文献

The author discusses the decision of the “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Supervision” (DGSv), that clinical supervision and coaching are the same. On the one hand, the problems in the market for the clinical supervision are comprehensible, but on the other hand, the formats have very different histories, different target groups and different images. Abusive Supervision refers to sustained perceptions of hostile leader behavior. So far, it is mostly understood one-sidedly as a sort of dysfunctional leadership style, neglecting any influence of the addressed follower(s). In contrast, this article conceptualizes Abusive Supervision as a persistent pattern of leadership interaction: It may emerge when leader and follower construct the reality of their interaction in opposing ways and see their own behavior only as reactive to the negative behavior displayed by the other. Supervision is a central domain of professional education and clinical practice. Supervisiors features for qualification as well as formal training and standards have been largely neglected. In this article, the proposals of different psychotherapeutic societies concerning the features for qualification were discussed. Additionally some training concepts were presented. Suggestions for future development in this area are addressed, including the need to refine further and operationalized competences, develop expectations for accreditation and lizensure regarding supervision competencies.  相似文献

Supervision in mental-health A brief outline of supervision as such is followed by a specification of supervision in the pretherapeutic field of mental-health. Here, supervision has an identity promoting function as well as a didactic one for the leaders of workshops and seminars. Using short sequences of group supervision, the psychoanalytic method is demonstrated. In the course of the supervisory process mirror phenomena of the participants’ psychodynamics can be observed as well as the dynamic of the employing institution (open questions and conflicts) and their interference become visible. Supervision in mental-health is useful for securing the quality of the standards of the work, serves the mental hygiene of the leaders, and promotes the development of the organisation.  相似文献

We study how professional players and college students play zero‐sum two‐person strategic games in a laboratory setting. We first ask professionals to play a 2 × 2 game that is formally identical to a strategic interaction situation that they face in their natural environment. Consistent with their behavior in the field, they play very close to the equilibrium of the game. In particular, (i) they equate their strategies' payoffs to the equilibrium ones and (ii) they generate sequences of choices that are serially independent. In sharp contrast, however, we find that college students play the game far from the equilibrium predictions. We then study the behavior of professional players and college students in the classic O'Neill 4 × 4 zero‐sum game, a game that none of the subjects has encountered previously, and find the same differences in the behavior of these two pools of subjects. The transfer of skills and experience from the familiar field to the unfamiliar laboratory observed for professional players is relevant to evaluate the circumstances under which behavior in a laboratory setting may be a reliable indicator of behavior in a naturally occurring setting. From a cognitive perspective, it is useful for research on recognition processes, intuition, and similarity as a basis for inductive reasoning.  相似文献

Supervision with volunteers in social workWhile professional supervisors are increasingly requested to work with volunteers, the widening scope of application evokes specific problems to both supervisors and volunteers. This article is supposed to carry forward the preceding article in OSC 2/05. The author describes the special features of voluntary service by example of ambulant hospice work and relates them to the setting of supervision. It becomes evident, that it is necessary to modify and extend the roles of the supervisor in order to work successfully. The author emphasizes the adequate choice of methodic repertoire. This article moots the issue of how to support students of social work and social pedagogy to develop the prerequisites for a professional exercise within their future vocational role by dint of supervision. Academical training has to offer spaces for reflecting the relationship between clients and their assistants and for the student’s self-development as well. Methodical settings are reflected for the vocational training of students. Of what kind are the relationships between knowledge transfer, practical guidance and supervision? Students often make their decision of a course of studies without being aware of the consequences for their future career and life, without having been informed about alternatives and — even more important — without having thought about their personal talents and interests. During their studies itself, they often run into difficulties when they realise that they took the wrong decision. High rates of changes in studies or cancelling all studies are the consequence (25 % in total, more than 40 % in special studies like social sciences). The author works as a students’ advisor and students’ coach and, among others, offers analyses of talents and a comprehensive advisory training for professional orientation. Despite their increasing relevance, employees' psychological contracts have attracted little research attention in Australia. The present paper presents two studies, which examined the psychological contracts of specific cohorts of professional employees and those in a managerial career track. The first study was an in-depth qualitative investigation of research scientists in an Australian public sector research organisation. They were found to have a strong professional affiliation and had developed psychological contracts that were best understood by reference to the ‘ideological currency’ of the scientific community. The second study was a quantitative examination of 156 MBA students at an Australian university, and how their psychological contracts could be related to perceptions of the contextual variables of organisational justice, perceived organisational support and external employability. Organisational justice and perceived organisational support were found to be related to the nature of the psychological contracts measured, but perceptions of external employability were not.  相似文献
